I do think we've reached "peak football".  There is a declining base of parents who want their kids to play contact football.  Historically, the fan base of any sport usually is dominated by people who've played that sport.  The NFL is an institution, however, and it will be decades before it is eclipsed by something else.

Given that my time was wasted for this past season, effectively, when our LT was not available for most of the first half of the season, I have to ask why in the world did I misinvest so much time following this team?  The injuries are ruining the fan experience.  At least the one that I enjoy.  I guess it doesn't matter much to fantasy footballers if one particular team loses its best players due to injuries. 

As far as jumping the shark, I thought the league must jumped the shark when the announcers were more interested in Emmitt Smith Dancing With the Stars than with the game they were announcing.

As I get older I'm getting more interested in doing sports than watching sports.  But that's bucking the trend of our nation of couch potato spectators.

They didn't play well when things didn't go their way.  Good example of how a truly battle-tested team (like the last two NYG SB teams) knows not to do stupid things at the wrong moments.

Three other brain farts from the Ravens.  First, the stupid head butt personal foul.  Second, the receiver on the interception putting his hand up (I'm wide open) when he was nowhere near open, with Jackson then underthrowing the ball leading to the INT in the end zone.  And another of the same, speaking of Beckham, who puts his hand up when he has all of 1/4 step on the CB.  Just dumb stuff that a high school head coach would get annoyed by.

And Jackson tossing his helmet...not a great sign of leadership there on the sideline.

I've been to a few Cowboys games in Texas wearing a Giants jersey.  Would never dream of taking that risk in Philly.

The Cowboy fans at the game, both before and after the Giants got their asses kicked, were pretty good natured.  Some fun ribbing, but that's all.  No one tried to pee on me in the restroom.  And I didn't see any fights anywhere.  Multiple notches up from Philthadelphia.

Agree with you on stadiums.  Public money should not go towards them.  The economic analyses show that the spending impact pretty much cannibalizes entertainment spending that would otherwise be spent in the same city but at different locations and at different times.  But the Giants are one of the few (only?) franchises to not get public funding for a stadium.

Another take on the original post.  I believe (this is armchair speculation) that Mara has less wealth outside of the team than most other owners.  (This needs to be checked.) I think that means he is more conservative with his decisions than other owners.  That could lead to going with safer choices which also leads to over-reliance on people you personally know.  Like hiring Mac-A-Don't.

I think we also need a new strength and conditioning coach.

You don't need much talent (foot dexterity, hip flexibility, etc.) to convert 3rd-and-1.  You just got to push the guy across from you just a little bit.

Our guys get pushed around on the LOS. all the time, especially in short yardage situations.  I just don't think they're as physically prepared as other Olines.

I'm just half-amazed and half-angry.  All of these linemen, even the worse lineman on the worse offensive line in the NFL, succeeded very well in high school.  He was taught how to handle defensive line stunts in high school, and he succeeded at high school.

Then he went to college.  He handled defensive line stunts in college, just as he was taught in high school, and he succeeded very well in college.  Otherwise he wouldn't even be invited to an NFL tryout.

Then he joins the Giants.  And now he can't handle simple defensive line stunts.

Interested in hearing the take from those of you who either played, coached, or are very knowledgeable on offensive line play.  I played G in High School.  We weren't very good and I wasn't very good either.

But I knew what to do when the defensive line stunted. 

What was going on out there?  I can't believe that--year after year--the Giants can't handle simple DT-DE twist plays. 

Justin Pugh looked completely lost out there.  This is incomprehensible for a seasoned vet.  Then throw in his 5-yarder for illegal motion.  Just unforgivable for a Guard.  Was Pugh making the line calls?  He was looking back at the QB on almost every play.  If so, why isn't the center making these calls this late in the season?

If you're Glowinski...dude you had 1 job.  You blew it and got flagged.  Go back to the bench.

I find it very hard to watch a game with multi-millionaire professionals making high school errors that our HS football coach would have gone apoplectic over.  Tough to watch.

I wonder if Giants that change teams (e.g. Julian Love) experience more/fewer hamstring injuries than when they played for the Giants.  I think it would make for an interesting analysis.

Talking about rest, and the NFL maximizing revenue, the Thurs night games go against the integrity of the game, in my opinion.  The Giants get 3 days more rest than the Seahawks.  Plus the Seahawks have to travel.

The NFL scheduling people are idiots.  If a team has 11 days rest...then send them on an away game right afterwards.   Of course, the Giants already had 2 straight ridiculous away games to begin with.

I hate Thurs. night games.  Play on Sundays.  What's next "ABC's Tuesday Morning Football in China"?

Love your point about the team concept.  And keeping both coordinators, HC, and GM the same for two seasons in a row...when was the last time that happened for the Giants?

True. On wikipedia it says he took the job Dec '17 and underwent treatment June '18.  But, he must have been under the weather well prior to June '18.  Probably should've stepped down. At least I would've.  Don't think anyone can do a GM job unless they're putting in >3,000 hours per year.
