Hopefully they play over there soon.

I thought Germany already had a team that they promote?
#3
There's a lot of bad teams on that list.

No point saying anything else at this point in year.

It's clear he's going to be on the roster come September.

Wow.

Quote from: katkavage on March 24, 2024, 03:31:36 PMIt's not about next year. For once the Giants need to focus on the long game.

That's why I said "incrementally" better.

With the money they have tied up in Dex and Burns, you can't simply write the year off.

If they are trading up. It's fair to say they ought to be better next year and then far better in the coming years.

Yes. It'll mean they believe the player will make the Giants incrementally better in the short term and much better in the long term.

You're either going QB or MHJ. And both options are good with me.

There's been so many disastrous moves over the last decade it's hard to pick one.

I can't say missing out on a pint sized, albeit good WR, is the critical one.

I don't get the Barkley hate.

- he had no O line to run behind
- his receivers were not world beaters or even competent at times.

He was the sole offense for much of duration here and the only playing the opposition needed to worry about.

He's and the D are reason the Giants started 6-1 in 2022 and subsequently made the playoffs.

Personally I think he deserves better.

Quote from: sxdxca38 on March 22, 2024, 08:45:49 PMIf he is as bad as you say he is, then may I ask why did he post a 92.5 RTG and a 60.0 QBR in 2022 ranking him around top ten?

Why did his team make the playoffs in 2022? and actually win a game?

Furthermore, in the first 5 games of 2023 he faced two top five defenses, his pro bowl LT missed almost all 5 games, Barkley was gone after game 2, and he had to get rid of the ball in less than 2 seconds on almost every snap.

If the Giants strengthen the O line, and they draft a #1 WR and they start winning, will you concede that maybe he wasn't as bad as you said he was?

This is a valid point.

Although we must be mindful that in 2022, he faced one top ten defence all season and the 22nd ranked defence in the post season.

All true, but JS' average draft position is 15th if you combine the slots from his two seasons.

So I think it's fair to say that he's performing better that Getty but there's room for improvement.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Hodgins remains a Giant

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on March 22, 2024, 06:58:06 PMI actually like Hodgins, but I was disappointed in him in 2023 after being very happy with him in 2022. I'd like to think that since I saw what he was capable of in 2022, as a young guy, he should be able to do that again. Of course, if he is a non-factor again in 2024, that starts to become what he really is and 2022 becomes a bit of a one-off. That sometimes happens with players. I can name other examples.

Yeah, I don't mind him. He's not the answer at the position but given service - he can be productive.

I hope late 2022 wasn't just a blip.

Quote from: Bob In PA on March 17, 2024, 12:17:12 PMNo, but I believe we can infer (from the fact that the coaches and GM insist Jones is still their guy) that it has happened a lot more than we know.

As for your examples (locking on a guy and missing an open man), I agree that Jones makes mistakes too. The question the coaches must sort out is whether Jones is making more than his "fair share" of mistakes and (again) I fall back on the fact that the team apparently is viewing him as their starting QB for (at least) the upcoming season.

Bob

Absolutely agree, Bob.

I also don't think management can say anything other than he's the starter. A) the cap hit for a cut means he's on the roster in sept and b) saying anything else puts them all on the hot seat for a giant mistake they are responsible for.

Nevertheless. I'd love nothing more than Jones to light it up and lead us to the promised land.

I don't hate him as a player or a man. I just think, on the body of evidence, it is unlikely.

That's all.

Quote from: Painter on March 17, 2024, 11:46:55 AMI do hope it's nothing too serious and that your wife is okay.

On this topic, however, I can't help but wonder if you decided to shift blame away from Jones or really don't know except it must be someone's fault and thus someone to blame.

Cheers!

Thank you, Larry. All clear from Breast Cancer so now in the pub.

I take your point, we are generally, myself include (perhaps with the exclusion of you), looking for someone to blame. Of that, I accept.

Go to the first play of the Raiders game, it's 9 seconds in. Barkley is in the flat and open. Jones sails it by him.

That's one example to counter BD's one example.

I've tried to take a screen shot of the play but the app or my phone won't allow it.

Take a look. See what you think and tell me Barkley ran the wrong route.
