Whether we draft a QB in the 1st round or not.

Do you believe that trying to find a team desperate enough for a Quarterback with whom to trade DJ is the appropriate move?

Addressed the offensive line?

To me this feels like past off-seasons where we were all so thirsty for a functional OL that we got excited over middling signings.

I think most of those signings were depth, and that we still need Day 1 & day 2 OL.

Say what you want about Saquon....when he was in the line-up the offense had a chance to be functional. When he was out....it was UGLY.

I'm not complaining about not signing him, I understand the reasoning. I'm also hopeful about the OL specifically the new OL Coach.

HOWEVER: How do you solve having no offensive threat for defenses to worry about. We don't have a QB on the roster who can carry an offense. The best protection for a pedestrian QB has always been a dynamic running back who could run, block, and catch.

Are you as concerned as I am that (unbelievably) the offense can actually take a step back from last year?

Had to deal with as a Giant?

Answer: Competing for his job.

I'm interested to see if he has the grit to compete head to head.

I read an article covering Nick Saban's disdain for the NIL and it got me thinking.

We are increasingly dealing with movement in the NFL....now, by the time many of these players come out of college they have already moved around to 2-3 teams.

Will this adversely affect the next collective bargaining agreement?

How will this impact rookies coming into the league? Are future drafts threatened?

I am a bit old school and it's colored my belief system that the '80's and beginning of the '90's showcased the highest quality football of my lifetime (I'm a chipper 62 yrs young).

Therefore I believe that the quality of the game has already diminished. Will the NIL take the next step in the devolution?

What say you?

Or a coaching/development problem?

I submit that we haven't had a decent OL Coach since the Coughlin years.

Teaching and holding accountable to proper technique and developing more burst, strength and phone booth quickness are all critical coaching points.

I'm not certain we've had even an average OL coach over the past 10 years.

Big Blue Huddle / Would you spend a day 2 pick
March 08, 2024, 08:54:28 AM
On Justin Fields and build around him?

Assuming he's that guy, the Giants could trade down 2-4 spots in the 1st, garner several picks, and then spend their 2nd on Fields who would push/replace DJ next season.

Our back 7?

Will we be playing a lot more zone?

Does this move Thibs to a more traditional DE?

I'm reading that he won't blitz nearly as much and that he's more of a 4-3 DC.

Educate me fellow fanatics.

Super Bowl Sunday...there was a time that no matter who was playing, I was glued to the television for the "up to two and a half" hours of pre-game coverage.
The type of coverage that was either about X's & O's, feel good stories about the participating coaches and players, or the city hosting the game.

When the game started it was PURE FOOTBALL..no skirts on Quarterbacks, no quick whistles, no selective replay, and no side shows.

Has the NFL under Roger Goodell and his marketing machine finally jumped the shark?

I tuned in to my NFL app about 25 minutes ago only to hear Rich Eisen say "we'll be back with our 6TH HOUR  of coverage" REALLY?!! The game starts at 6:30pm...at 2pm they're starting their 6th which means by kick-off pre game will have been 10.5 hours of coverage. WHY?!

For that matter, why have we gone from looking forward to Sunday afternoons, with the occasional Holiday schedule of Thanksgiving Thursdays, Monday nights, and a Saturday schedule post CFB and into the playoffs...on network TV and select cable channels....to all of the above PLUS Sunday nights, double headers on Monday nights, and Thursday nights...adding streaming services to join in the cash raking?!!!

Is nothing sacred, Roger?!! Doesnt the league, and you have enough $$$$?!!

Make no mistake, I LOVE THE NFL. I was born in the same place (Canton, OH) as the NFL...it's been in my blood since I'm 8 years old!! I moved to NYC in part because the team that I've loved since that age and followed in the newspaper...yes the newspaper since there was no ESPN or MSG in 1970. I bleed Giants BLUE and that will never change.

But if I'm being honest, the league has lost its edge, its true excitement...the thing that made it popular...its PURITY. The NFL used to be all about football.

Today's NFL? It just feels like anything BUT pure football. HAS IT JUMPED THE SHARK?? For the 1st time as a fan, I wonder.

Big Blue Huddle / What is Pepper Johnson doing?
February 02, 2024, 01:30:03 PM
I see his last stint ended in 2022 with Tampa as DC/DL Coach and hasn't coached since (according to Wikipedia)

I had always hoped he'd climb the coaching ladder.

Anyone know what he is up to?

Big Blue Huddle / Mike Vrabel for DC?

No HC spots left. An opportunity to maximize this talent and create a consistently attacking front four.

2025 Buzz created to kick him back up to HC.

Time for the Giants to groom a successor.

Yay or Nay?

Aired on Peacock?!

This is another in a long line of reasons I despise Roger Goodell.

A continued cheapening of the game, I used to love.

Big Blue Huddle / From Bono to Bozo?
December 26, 2023, 11:24:24 AM
Does anyone believe that Daboll' success last season went to his head and his newfound success caused a lackadaisical approach throughout the roster?

I feel like reality hit him smack in the face at 2-8 causing him to really tighten up. When we lost yesterday to officially eliminate ourselves from contention, he was truly miserable (I didn't appreciate his attitude in the post game presser).

Let's hope that (assuming he stays) he is able to learn from the experience.

With Williams still available at #4, do the Giants trade up or simply hold at #7 and take the "best available"

Big Blue Huddle / Anyone reading this rumor?

I read a few feeds that Daboll wants  to quit in January.

Any other murmurs about this?

I don't want him to leave.

What do you want to see from our Giants?

A) finish 5-12 with a top 5 pick
B) finish 7-10 with a top 15 pick but a significantly improved OL
C) finish 8-9, sneak into the playoffs with the OL and our Paisan showing real promise
D) share your own scenario

The day that Rozelle intervened between Wellington & Tim to "suggest" they hire George Young turned out to be one of the greatest days in Giants history.

The current state of this franchise especially considering the past 10 years feels like it needs a similar intervention.

The Maras need someone to tell them that their glory years happened in spite of and not because of them.

I'm interested in knowing the percentage of my fellow Giants fans who still want to see this team finish strong and markedly improve through the end of this season

vs the percentage who would prefer that we finish in the bottom 3 (more than likely 4 wins or less) for a chance at a top three pick.

To be fair I'll go first: I'd like to see marked improvement particularly along the OL, back-up QB and special teams. Realistically I don't see all three areas being possible over the next eight games so I'll settle for the OL.

Even if it means we don't get a top 5 pick.

(To quote Will Ferrell in The Campaign): Now you go.

Big Blue Huddle / Daniel Jones’ future.
November 08, 2023, 02:54:17 PM
Where do you see him by next years' trading deadline? Is he movable at that point? Or is it necessary to keep him through the end of next season due to cap implications.

I remember reading that Washington wanted him bad in the draft. Is the word out across the league that he's not a starting NFL QB? Or is there a Washington out there?

A lot of sentiment that he will start opening day for us with his newly drafted successor waiting in the wings.

We've never seen DJ compete for his job at this level. Does that even make a difference at this point?

Interested in when and how this chapter ends.

Big Blue Huddle / Could Daboll be on the hot seat?!
November 06, 2023, 06:45:02 AM
Is it possible that Schoen would pull the trigger should the Giants lose out?

Can Daboll salvage this by at least showing that he's learned from many of his mistakes this year, giving us some hope for next year with a new QB?

Despite how we look as a team, I believe there is some legit talent on this roster (not yet enough to contend but) so I'm not ready to move Schoen.

What of the owners? Do they intercede after this year?

When will we finally be assured that the future is in good hands?

Big Blue Huddle / Eli the IRONMAN
November 05, 2023, 07:09:01 PM
I realize there are a lot of varying opinions about Eli. But I will forever appreciate him, and I will always blame the organization for the last 5+ years of his career with no protection.

What I appreciate the most about him is that you could always count on him being suited up and ready to compete.

He never missed a game due to injury. I'm not sure that we'll ever see that again.

@ Cowboys 4:25 kick-off
@ Skins 1pm kick-off

What's their record at the end of this quarter of the season?

I'm never giving up until we're mathematically eliminated. I am one hard headed bastard!!

Big Blue Huddle / Regarding DJ.. have you ever pondered
October 31, 2023, 09:38:12 AM
His emotional attachment to Eli & the team?

I realize that this should never get in the way of performance for a professional however there's a part of me that believes that he wants it SO BAD that he presses unnecessarily which has retarded his development.

I'm not absolving him of anything just a perception.

I've often wondered if a change in scenery would help him based on these facts, or whether it was simply an issue with emotional fragility.

I think of the great QB HC's like Walsh, Gibbs, and to a lessor extent Fassel and consider if any of them could've made a difference in his development.

When we missed the FG that would've put us up 13-7 with 28 seconds left, it looked like we went into a deep quarters/prevent defense.

Does anyone share my opinion that we should've played the same defense that stopped them all game?!

Or was this what they expected? (IE OLINE issues and little depth at OL & RB).

QB a surprise or point made?

Was this a point made for giving the baby (owner) his bottle?

I'm not trying to be overly critical here but Schoen/Dabol see to have too much collective football knowledge than to be caught off guard like this.

That being said, under John Mara's tenure this franchise has consistently under performed at OL & QB....yet, with what looked like a fresh start (the Schoen/Dabol regime), the "suggestion" that Jones hadn't been given a fair shot to that point, seems to have derailed what should've been a full rebuild to turn this team in the right direction long term.
