I'm not much interested in the draft or free agency, but I enjoy reading the insights from everyone here who does follow them closely. I do however, love breaking down the game film. I thought I'd throw up some breakdowns of plays by my newly minted favorite Giant: Damon "Snacks" Harrison, to try to entertain myself and maybe some of you guys this offseason.

Thought this was funny:
"Mike Williams vows he'll be the best Mike Williams ever: better than Mike Williams, Mike Williams, or even Mike Williams."

Rich - Please move this and other similar threads with instructional articles to the chalk talk board once they fall off the front page.

That'll make them easier to find and read later. Thanks.

I'm listening now, and I'm curious who Frank is? As in, what is his screen name here at BBH.

Chalk Talk / How to beat the Cover 2
December 18, 2016, 05:05:23 AM
The Giants once-potent passing game has been stymied for about a year now by cover 2 man and zone defenses. What is it about this relatively basic, two-high safety look that is causing the Giants so many problems?

Is it that the offensive line can't give the quarterback enough time to let deeper routes up the sideline or in the middle of the field develop? Is it that all three of the Giants top receivers are essentially slot guys who thrive on the shorter routes that cover 2 is adept at taking away? Is it that the Giants offense is almost exclusively based on short, high-percentage passes and the coaching staff hasn't adapted? Is it because of deficiencies at TE that are preventing the Giants from exploiting the seams? Is it because of a decline in skills or a secret injury that is preventing Eli Manning from making the throws?

I'm not sure. But I wanted to offer this article which gives some explanations of how to beat the cover 2, and maybe some ideas of exactly what it is that the Giants are unwilling or unable to do offensively:

Great discussion as usual fellas. I agree with the point made several times that the teams are very similar in some ways.

I'm not counting on any benefit from Stafford's finger injury. He's having a career year, and has shown a lot of grit.

Both of these teams have had pretty magical seasons thus far. I think the winner of this game will be positioned to make some noise come playoff time. Detroit is in position for a 1st round bye and a home game.

Chalk Talk / Re: BBH Giants-Steelers Game Preview

Wow. After watching every Steelers offensive play of the season the past week, there was nothing to signal that Ladarous Green was going to go for 6-101 and a TD. Better than his season totals to this point...

Listening now. You guys did a good job introducing the opponent, as usual. One thing I would say is that the phone connection with Brian makes it a little difficult to understand him, at times.

We probably all expect a close game given this team's identity up to this point. Going into the bye, I was viewing these Bears & Browns games as a chance to get the offense going. I think the first goal was to generate some running game, which has happened. Next is to generate some more big plays in the passing game.

Good job guys. Listening now. I'm excited to see if the offense can get going today with some bigger plays to the receivers out wide or with Paul Perkins in those B gaps. I think as Ed mentoned, it will come down to whether Eli can stand in there and convert some deep plays to the wideouts.

Chalk Talk / Giants v. Eagles: Doug Pederson's Offense

A nice breakdown of the offense Eagles' coach Doug Pederson ran in KC last year:

Chalk Talk / Giants v. Eagles: Jim Schwartz's Defense
November 03, 2016, 06:36:59 PM
Good article about Eagles' DC Jim Schwartz schemes:

QuoteWhen Jim Schwartz was hired as the Eagles' defensive coordinator last month, many in Philadelphia felt a tingle down their spine when they heard the term Wide 9 thrown around by analysts, as the idea of a Wide 9 defensive scheme has been attached to Schwartz since his days as the defensive coordinator of the Tennessee Titans. Is it really a scheme, though?

The answer is no.

Every team in the league utilizes some fronts that deploy an edge player in a Wide 9 technique, meaning that he is lined up a full gap away from where the tight end would line up before the snap. The Eagles, under Bill Davis, utilized the Wide 9 technique. The Denver Broncos have done the same under Wade Phillips, the New England Patriots with Bill Belichick and the Steelers with Mike Tomlin, yes, all use defensive ends or linebackers as 9-technique players at different points throughout a game.

So if Schwartz
