They could have made calls to teams that they had no intention of trading with and went to programs and spoke to players they had no intention of drafting because outsiders talk.

Quote from: londonblue on March 26, 2024, 11:03:32 AMTrading Herbert is a salary cap impossibility for the Chargers and for us (see Mighty, I do agree the cap is real and limits decisions in certain circumstances).

Which we discussed a month ago.

Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on March 26, 2024, 11:28:45 AMEven before taking advanced engineering courses, I learned that the strongest way to build a race car cage, or horizontal beams (like a gantry), construction cranes, trusses, etc., was to use "triangles", that give it incredible strength. I was taught that as a teen when I worked with a stock car driver and we were building a cage around the driver. Ever notice overhead signs over multi-lane highways are nothing more than an enormous number of triangles? https://letstalkscience.ca/educational-resources/backgrounders/why-a-triangle-a-strong-shape

The first thing I noticed on the Baltimore Bridge was the "H-Shaped" foundations that struck me as an engineering flaw
Something ancient Egyptians or whoever built the pyramids knew.

Quote from: MightyGiants on March 26, 2024, 10:56:12 AMBridges are engineering marvels.  The problem with engineering marvels is that all the forces are balanced throughout the structure.  Take out one section using a massive cargo ship, and everything else will fail.

Quote from: Alamo on March 26, 2024, 09:45:07 AMMy 2 cents worth...The Chargers move up to get JJ..Then trade Herbert for a 1st rd pick..Coach says JJ the best player in the draft..That sounds like a coach in love..
And if that happens, they will trade Herbert to the Giants for their #6 pick.

Few more Giants contract details:

• CB Darnay Holmes: 1 year, $2M with $50K guaranteed. He got the rarely used "four-year qualifying player" veteran salary benefit (VSB). Players with four straight years with a team can receive a base salary worth up to $1.45M more than the minimum while the cap hit is at the level of a player with two years experience. Long story short, his cap hit is just $1.3M.

• OT Matt Nelson: 1 year, $1.3M with $75K guaranteed. This is a standard VSB contract, so the cap hit is $1.2M.

• Dexter Lawrence's restructure has been processed on the NFLPA site, so the Giants now have $8.3M in cap space.

With a new DC, now he's contemplating calling the plays? Really?

It's surreal how that could have resulted in the complete demolition of the bridge. Even with the weight of that vessel, the other sections should have been independently supported. Linda told me she was on that bridge over a decade ago and it was scary back then.

The Offensive Line was upgraded at both Guard positions and it's expected that JMS takes a step forward. It remains to be seen if Evan Neal is the incumbent RT, although I do expect him to start the season there. Either way, the Line should be improved with the new Oline Coach.

The questions I have are, would a Drake Maye, JJ McCarthy, or any QB taken be an upgrade to elevate the Receiver positions? Or, would an elite Receiver elevate Jones/Lock with the upgraded or expected upgraded O-Line? Would a Bo Nix or Penix, thrive with an elite Receiver and an expected O-Line?

Not drafting a QB in the first two rounds allows the Giants to Draft an Elite Receiver and an Offensive Lineman in the first two rounds. I think they can sign a veteran Corner. They have their Edge Rusher. Would they wait until the third round to get their QB? Would they trade next year's draft picks to move up in any round?

I think if they go Receiver in round one, their next pick needs to be a QB.
