WR and ST ace Gunner Olszewski is signing with the #Giants practice squad, per source. He was a first-team All Pro with the Patriots in 2020.

Could be immediate spot for him with Gary Brightwell leaving Sunday's win with a hamstring injury.

Big Blue Huddle / Have to give props to Glowinski
October 23, 2023, 11:03:31 AM
I called him out hard after the disaster against Dallas (that had the coaching staff bench him).  The man has redeemed himself

@JordanRaanan
Nobody wants to say it but the key to the Giants offensive line settling a bit ... Mark Glowinski!

The veteran was benched after an awful Week 1. Since being forced back into the lineup b/c of injuries, he has a 97.0% pass block win rate over the last three games. That's ninth of 67 qualifying guards (Marcus McKethan is 67th).

Credit to Glowinski for turning it around. #Giants

With the trade deadline of October 31st 4 pm (a week from Tuesday) should the Giants be sellers in the trade market?  They have players who should have some value who are likely not going to return after this season in guys like Barkley, Leo, and Adoree.  So should the Giants increase their number of draft picks which currently sits at 6 (they traded their 7th for Simmons)?
#848
I think the team found their starting CB trio (that we saw start Sunday) in Banks, Hawkins, and Flott in the slot.

The team can either move on from Adoree after this season or even trade him before the deadline.

Big Blue Huddle / Schoen has some shopping to do
October 23, 2023, 08:32:58 AM
The Giants need to find some RBs as half their RB corps was injured yesterday (Gray and Brightwell), leaving only Barkley and Breda

They could also use a proper punt returner, although that will be more challenging as the WR room is full (thanks to the decision to keep Shepard on the roster) so ideally, the punt returner is a RB or perhaps a DB.

Pat Leonard
@PLeonardNYDN
Sources: Giants head coach Brian Daboll turned back to the clock to his days as the Bills' offensive coordinator this week and ran the Giants' offensive meetings with players as he once did in Buffalo.

This is the first week Daboll has taken this drastic measure. He was not only discussing game strategy and game plan. He was also coaching individual position groups and players on his expectations and adjustments for specific plays in those meetings.

That included detailed instructions for the offensive line, his team's Achilles heel.

The reason for Daboll's increased involvement is self-explanatory: the Giants (1-5) are on the verge of a total collapse and possibly a trade deadline firesale if they suffer a fifth straight loss Sunday to Washington (3-3) at MetLife Stadium.

And Daboll's expertise, the offense, is the primary reason why.

Giants are targeting next week's game vs. the New York Jets to bring back their standout left tackle Andrew Thomas, who has missed the past six games due to a hamstring injury, per source. As it turns out, Thomas had a setback before the Seahawks' game when he tried to practice, per source. Now the team is being extra cautious with him and want to make sure he's as close to 100 percent before he returns, which is now shaping up to be next week.

Admittedly, the Giants' season is already hanging by a thread.  Still, a loss today, and the season is over for all intents and purposes.  A win today, and there is still a small hope.

Big Blue Huddle / A good point and a good question
October 21, 2023, 10:41:09 AM
This Tweet got me seriously thinking.  As you guys know, I am not a fan of keeping injury-prone players.   Jones and his neck are the type of issues I think it's prudent for teams (especially my favorite team) to avoid.  Sadly, we all know once the Giants are out of the playoff hunt, they will start winning games and pushing down their draft slot.   So while I am warming to the idea of moving on from Jones, I wonder just how realistic of an option that is.

Tommy
@TommyG105
For those that want Daniel Jones gone as the Giants starting QB, I do not disagree with that opinion.

He has been inconsistent and has now suffered two neck injuries in 3 seasons.

My question to you is if the Giants rattle off a few wins here, what's your plan at QB next season?

Melissa Starks reported that this is what Brian Daboll said to her when she asked about the positives in the first half as they were walking off the field.   Daboll had just previously told her he didn't want to talk about the run play that ended the first half.

Here's the thing: Brian is the team's leader.  It's okay to be firey, but a leader needs to maintain a level of control.   Brian needed to be thinking of half-time adjustments as he walked into the locker room.  He didn't have the luxury of being so upset that he couldn't focus on anything.

Mike Lombardi addresses this same issue at the 22:55 mark of this video.

Big Blue Huddle / Quote from Leo
October 21, 2023, 09:26:42 AM
#Giants Leonard Williams gave me an interesting quote on coaches having 'favorites' when I asked about only having 3 sacks in 18 games under Wink Martindale.  nypost.com/2023/10/20/leo...

'Playing in different systems definitely affects guys," Williams told @nypostsports. "Pat Graham did a good job of knowing what type of player I was and putting me in the right position, but he also played a little bit of favoritism with me in a way.

'I was always one of P.G.'s favorite guys, whereas in this system Dex did really well, so he's one of the favorites.

"It's not bad at all. It's a good thing. I love to see Dex thriving, and I'll take what I get and make the best of it."

Big Blue Huddle / Official Injury Status for Sunday

I appreciate that, based on salaries, teams are really valuing DI players these days.   Yet I saw this Tweet

https://x.com/PFF/status/1715042624250278308?s=20

I thought, the Giants have really struggled defending the run this season and are at the bottom in sacks.

PFF has Dex generating:

0 sacks
5 hits
16 pressures

Then I think about the impact Parsons has on the Dallas D and Dex seems to have a much smaller impact despite having similar PFF grades:  Parsons 91  Dex 90.6

Daboll said he doesn't have a designation on QB Daniel Jones for Sunday yet. Asked if he's cleared for contact, Daboll said, "Not yet."

Daboll said LT Andrew Thomas (hamstring), C John Michael Schmitz (shoulder) and OT Matt Peart (shoulder) are out.

RT Evan Neal (ankle) and CB Adoree' Jackson (neck) will be question, per Daboll.

Big Blue Huddle / Some depressing offensive line stats

@rydunleavy
Some 'state of the offensive line' #Giants hard facts in here: https://nypost.com/2023/10/19/tyre-phillips-giants-return-follows-time-to-focus-and-develop-with-eagles/

- 7 of their initial 9 offensive linemen are dealing with injuries now that left guard Shane Lemieux (one start) is likely out for the season. The 2 healthy OL were previously injured.
- Lemieux (knee, toe, biceps) has played just six total games since showing promise in nine starts as a rookie in 2020.
- 4 offensive lineman have been added to the 53-man roster off of a practice squad — joining Tyre Phillips (#Eagles), Joshua Miles (#Falcons) and Justin Pugh (#NYGiants) — in the last 3 days.
- In the scenario where Pugh, Mark Glowinski, Ben Bredeson, Marcus McKethan and Phillips (left to right) start against #Commanders, the line would have just two Week 1 starters (Glowinski and Bredeson) — neither of whom is in the same position as the season opener.
