The Front Porch / Re: Hurricane Weeze ????

Bump.
Any news on Weeze? We have friends in North Port, about 10 miles away from Port Charlotte where Weeze lives. Our friends are fine, just some minor damage to the outside of their home. They tell me they have a few friends in Port Charlotte that have lost their homes.

I remember once hearing that it's best to get your shots in your dominant arm. Reason being the additional arm movement will lead to a quicker disbursement of any pain and discomfort. I'm not sure if there's any truth to that however.

Ha!! No, I can usually deal with a bit of gore as long as it's not gratuitous. In this case the story sounds interesting in kind of a Twilight Zone type of way.

If the concept of time travel proves real, you can theoretically be in any time at any time. In other words all of time exists all the time. In that case what would that do to the very definition of time?

Somewhat related. I always enjoyed this quote...
When you look out into the night sky, and you see the stars far away, you're seeing them because of the light that has travelled from them to you.
But it takes time for the light to travel here. So what we're doing is seeing the stars as they were in the past, in the amount of time it has taken for the light to reach us. The further, and further away the stars are, the further back in time we're looking.
Now we're seeing a star that, let's say, is 6,000 years ago. Imagine somebody on that star looking at us. They would be seeing us as we were 6,000 years ago.
Which of those two is "now"?
So space and time are linked together. As we are looking across the space, we are looking back in time.

*This is in no way to make light of the current situation in Florida.*

Ric/Jolly Blue Giant, if you haven't already read it, now might be a good time to read Carl Hiaasen's book Stormy Weather, (one of my favorites of his books). It will be interesting to see how closely the events in his novel parallels actual post-hurricane reality during the next several months or more.

Quote from: squibber on September 29, 2022, 11:42:36 AMI watched a low budget movie on Tubi called The Oak Room.  If you like story telling, you might like this one.

An alcoholic drifter returns to a bar after being away for months. He owes the bartender for a big tab. The drifter said he has a story to tell him that is so good that if the bartender likes it will he tear up his bar tab? The bartender plays along. At first the bartender is not impressed and tells the drifter a story that will impress him. The drifter implores the bartender to let him finish his story. it is worth it.

I agree. The drifter's story is worth it.  Good movie but a warning. There is a gory scene.

OK, you have my attention. I might check it out.

Crazy. I was watching TWC as that happened and I asked my wife the same question.

That's a really cool picture and experience, made even better by trying to guess what it was you were witnessing.
We live about 20 miles from VAFB, as the crow flies, and SpaceX schedules one or two launches a month. Daylight and after dark launches are quite different visually, but are equally awesome. They just had a launch yesterday afternoon and even though we're visiting the grandkids, a couple hours to the south, we were still able to see the rocket and exhaust trail.

Happens to me occasionally too. I have an iPhone and I do not have the Chrome app installed or use Google on it. Seems everybody's listening. All for our own good no doubt.

A while back my niece and several of her friends were sitting around the kitchen table, and as a test, they all set their phones on the table, screens locked. They began talking about something random, in this case wicker furniture. within 24 hours all five of them were getting ads for, you guessed it, outdoor wicker furniture. This was a year or two ago, so it's nothing new.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on September 05, 2022, 12:09:52 PMTrue, and I do think this makes sense for the Cowboys. Maybe they can get another year out of him. He did have a 77.5 PFF grade last year on over 850 snaps.

What does a 77.5 mean in PFF scoring? What are poor, average, good, excellent scores? Just looking for a frame of reference.

Excellent news, this should help your local economy as well. It would be great if, when I visit my long time home in the Triple Cities, I don't leave feeling depressed.
