Just caught up with Darren Waller. Still no decision on his future. Why is he taking so long to make a decision?

"It's just evaluating my overall commitment level. I don't feel like it's fair to my teammates, fair to the franchise, fair to people that support it to have somebody out there that isn't 100% committed to the entire journey from April to February,"

Waller said he's still training at the level necessary if he decides to play.

Waller participated in a roundtable today about his battle with addiction at Carrier Clinic, which is Hackensack Meridian Health's flagship behavioral health campus. It was really powerful to listen to Waller be so open about his personal journey.

Putting football aside, Darren Waller is a great ambassador for mental health. It was poignant to hear him talk about his struggles after the tragedy with Korey Cunningham.

"God, he was a good dude," Waller said. "It's so sad. Just a great personality. But you never know what people have going on behind all that. That hit him me. It was tough to hear."

Big Blue Huddle / Waller still deciding
At this point, I almost hope he comes back.  I would love to see how defense would handle the receiver corps and Waller

Just spoke with Darren Waller a few minutes ago as he finished up an event here in New Jersey as the mental health ambassador for Hackensack Meridian Health.
Shared his story at the opening of the Carrier Clinic in Montgomery.

Waller said he has not finalized his decision regarding retirement, but was adamant that the decision has everything to do with whether he feels he can give 100 percent of himself to the team and the game.
I asked specifically if it has anything to do with the roster here or his experience last season. Waller insisted no. #NYGiants

Quote from: kingm56 on Today at 11:16:51 AMFundamentally, it's about moving the sticks (yards) and scoring points (TDs).  QBs who throw for lots of yards and TDs,  give your team the best chance to win championships, espically in the modern era.  I suspect that's why yards, TDs, and SBs are the focus for determining HoF worthiness, as it relates to QBs.  .

These QBs comprise the NFL(s) Top 10 ALL-TIME QB RATING:

Deshaun Watson
Dak Prescott
Kirk Cousins
Jimmy Garoppolo

It matters; however, not as much as yards and TDs.

To your point in bold, if that is your assertion why don't you ever include rushing yards and touchdowns in your QB stats?

Quote from: TONKA56 on Today at 10:35:18 AM2 superbowl appearances, 0 superbowl wins. Cowboys own us, but they are still kind of a hot mess. I mean, now we're back to the "can you find a franchise quarterback somewhere else besides the top 10" discussion, which is usually good for 10 pages or more. The truth is sure you can, but the odds are significantly against you. Almost like catching lightning in a bottle. I don't think most teams really even go after later round quarterbacks with a plan to make him the starter. Usually he's drafted as a backup and the stater gets injured and the backup siezes the opportunity.

If you value Super Bowls, how about the trophies won by the Bucs (Brady), Rams (Stafford), and the Broncos (Manning) none of whom acquired their QB via the draft (even)?

I was in Arizona when we drafted Korey Cunnigham in 2018. He moved onto the NY Giants and was living in NJ this past year.

Quick story:
We would invite him to the OL dinner every week even though he wasn't on the team which doesn't happen...ever. Team dinners are for players on the team only. Except for Korey....solely because he was beloved by all the guys regardless if you knew him or not! He'd tell stories and we'd laugh our asses off all night.

Today is a sad day but I'll always remember the good times and the laughs. Everyone who knew Korey Cunnigham was better for it. The world lost a great soul.

Quote from: AYM on Today at 10:21:21 AMI don't get why he's annoyed, the Cowboys traded down and unfortunately for us, still got what looks like a decent LT.

It appears this is who Parsons wanted the Cowboys to draft

Quote from: Jclayton92 on Today at 10:17:02 AMDo Qbr and Qb rating really matter if the qb is only averaging 45 yards a quarter or 180-190 yards a game?

Absolutely, QB rating and QBR are more qualitative stats that show how well a QB takes advantage of the opportunities given versus the raw stats that are most dependant on attempts

Quote from: TONKA56 on Today at 10:14:48 AMThe only flaw in this reasoning is the assumption that when your team is ready, you just dial 1-800-quarterback and get one. Usually the opportunity to get one doesn't present at the perfect time. That's why middle of the road teams end up with guys like Elvis Grbac, Brad Johnson, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Kirk Cousins, and washed up Brett Favre.

On the other side of that coin you have teams like the Eagles, 49ers, and the Cowboys who parlayed talented rosters and QB support into finding their franchise QBs in rounds other than the first one.

Quote from: Gmo11 on Today at 10:08:40 AMHe should be held responsible for his own play though.  Which at times feels like doesn't happen with all the excuse making.

I have to confess that when I read comments like this, I feel like people have become emotionally invested in DJ's outcome.  Are you suggesting that protection and receiving don't matter and that a good QB can magically put up big numbers?  That is clearly what the term "excuse making" suggests.  An impartial observer would refer to what you call "excuse making" as a reasoned appreciation that a QB's performance isn't in a vacuum.  The support a QB receives in terms of coaching, protection, and receiving weapons impacts both their play and their development.  It sure seems like your "feelings" are rather perjurative to those who try to have a deeper appreciation of the game.

Quote from: kingm56 on Today at 10:09:53 AMWell said, Bob.  I have high hopes for this pick!  I hope you're well.

I was intrigued by Brook's and Jeremiah's small study suggesting top 10 WRs have a superior hit rate to the rest of round one.  Matt, any chance you can add when each prospect was drafted to your data?

Bills bizarrely gift Xavier Worthy to Chiefs with 2024 NFL Draft trade
By Social Links forRyan Dunleavy
Published April 26, 2024, 1:04 a.m. ET
Setting up the Chiefs with Patrick Mahomes apparently wasn't enough for the masochistic Bills.

The NFL draft often creates strange bedfellows when it comes to trades, but few are as hard to explain as the Chiefs-Bills deal late in the first round Thursday night that gifted the fastest player in the class to Mahomes and speed-obsessed head coach Andy Reid.

Xavier Worthy, who recorded an NFL combine-record 4.21-second time in the 40-yard dash, was selected No. 28 by the Chiefs, who traded No. 32 and a third-rounder (No. 95) for No. 28 and a fourth-rounder (No. 133). The teams swapped seventh-rounders, too.

The Chiefs were in the market for a receiver even before last year's top rookie Rashee Rice was arrested, which possibly will lead to a suspension.

The Bills unknowingly handed the Chiefs their biggest nemesis during a 2017 draft trade that landed Mahomes in Kansas City.

Since then, Mahomes has eliminated the Super Bowl-minded Bills from the playoffs three times and become the obstacle preventing counterpart Josh Allen from reaching his full potential.
