Big Blue Huddle / Re: Waller getting divorced
Last post by kartanoman - Today at 03:28:51 PM
Going through divorce SUCKS, plain and simple. If you've never been through it, count your blessings. Also, never be quick to judge anyone going through a divorce because an outsider, unless the couple shares intimate details, just doesn't have the knowledge from both sides and, at that, still isn't in position to judge anyway.

The kid is in a tough situation right now and I hope he has someone older he can turn to for a sounding board as well as advice going forward (NOTE: doesn't necessarily have to be associated with the Giants). If his head isn't in the game, then the answer is easy as far as the Giants are concerned. But there's more to life than football and I hope he will land on his feet and be able to move on, regardless how it plays out for him.

Peace!

Forget the last 20 years and in total the Giants can write a novel on missed.
I would like to see a list of which team seems to miss more on 1st round picks in the past 50 years.

I thought that the reason he may have held out was because of the pressure of the marriage failing. Since the marriage is over, it opens up the window of his career. That's how I read it.

It may be harsh to say it but I'd like it even less to have a guy whose motivation may be to make up financially what he's losing in the divorce and who is likely to be distracted by the emotional side of going through a divorce than I did about having a guy who just couldn't make up his mind for unspecified reasons.  Now that we know the reason I want them to cut him even more.

Quote from: Trench on Today at 11:36:06 AMI strongly disagree about not having talent. WanDale, Hyatt, Slayton, Waller, even Bellinger had a very good rookie year.

But none of those guys play OL and for me, until we see differently on the field, they are still the elephant in the room.

Quote from: kingm56 on Today at 09:42:39 AMThat comports with my interactions with young people.  My oldest son graduated with a double-major in electrical and mechanical engineering; this is great because he'll be supporting my youngest, who desperately wants to be a social media influencer (focusing on video games).  It's up to the middle son to determine if we're good parents or not  ;)

I get the part about wanting to be an influencer, it's basically being a con man.  What I don't get are why the influencees are influenced by the influencers.

Quote from: Ed Vette on Today at 02:03:55 PMMaye all the way.
I'm not a fan of maye, I like Mccarthy more but would be happy with either because they would be Daboll's choice assuming they go that way. So I'd be ecstatic with Maye knowing it was the guy Daboll thinks is elite.

Quote from: AZGiantFan on Today at 02:53:42 PMThat sounds disingenuous to me.  Whether or not the coach and general manager have a conviction about something is going to be influenced by what the owner has been saying and by a personal desire to survive, IMO.

Rich,

One thing I learned is to be true to my own convictions.   The reality is doing what you think will please your boss or others, will not protect you if things go south.   My feeling is if I am going to be called on the carpet for a decision, it will be one that I made based on my convictions.   I found being reamed out for a decision I didn't really agree with was a terrible experience.

Quote from: MightyGiants on Today at 11:53:54 AMI keep hearing the unsubstanciated claims of Mara meddling.  Apparently John Mara has heard those accusations as well

"They knew my feelings that I was hoping it didn't come to this, but again, at the end of the day I know sometimes every once in a while I read that — 'Oh, he's meddling, he's meddling,'" the NYG co-owner acknowledged candidly. Reacting: "No, we've run our organization the same way for many, many years. If the head coach and general manager have a conviction about a player or a group of players, I'm going to let them go ahead and make those decisions."

Quote from: Gmo11 on Today at 10:11:47 AMI can absolutely see a scenario where Mara and Co. are wondering why the hell did we pay Jones all that money last season when now we are so done with him we have to give up other picks in order to replace him.  In a vacuum that would be a fair question to ask.

But much like a lot of the fan base, Mara I assume was also tantalized by the playoff appearance/victory and was not going to be signing off on dumping Jones at that point.  THAT also would have been a hard sell even if it's exactly the right thing they should have done.

So when Mara asks well wait a minute why do we need to do all of this to get a QB now when we just paid Jones, Schoen needs to be able to say to him: "I would have done it last year but you wanted to try one more time with Jones.  We tried.  It failed. He failed.  Now you HAVE to let me do things my way."  If he can't say that to Mara he should leave the job, if he can say that to Mara and gets ignored...he should leave the job or get fired from it.

We cannot have ownership getting in the way of things any more.  It's Mara's team, he can do what he wants with it, but if what he wants is to win he needs to stay the hell out of the way.

Well stated.
