Big Blue Huddle / Re: Davis Webb to start tomorrow

I recall the awesome last game of the 2007 season, Pats at Giants; the Pats needed the game to go 16 - 0 in the season, while the game didn't matter for the playoff bound Giants. Coughlin had all the starters play for the whole game, that turned out to be a preview of the SB in that season, the first SB win for Eli.

Then there were the Colts in one year, locked up the #1 seed for the playoff and rested players for the last game of the season. The Colts and the other Manning promptly lost their first playoff game that season.

It's the coaches decision, but don't expect me to watch a game, where 3rd string QB is starting for the Giant. I rather watch a meaningful game, like the Jets and Dolphins...

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on November 08, 2022, 04:10:53 PMI actually believe him that he did not know ATVs were restricted in his contract.
I do as well, but that doesn't really matter if he didn't know. After all, he signed the contract...

The Can-Am Maverick X3 Turbo RR is the fastest production ATV on the market, with 0 - 60 acceleration is under five seconds. It actually beat the fastest production pickup truck of RAM TRX on and off dirt road drag racing:

If I would be at his age and put one of these under my posterior for the first time, the chances are I would have the same results. At age 24, not many people can control this thing as it should be, even the one that they have in Cabo...

I hate to see him being out for 4-5 weeks, but I trust the management to make the right decision about him, whatever it might be. Let's hope that X and others will learn from this and there will be no more of this kind of injuries...

I am not certain that doxing him for 4-5 weeks salary is the right message, but agree with you. The Giants do need to do something and in my mind the extent is in question.

At this point, the possible long term impact of the injury isn't even known yet, albeit I do hope that there's none...

Xavior has been placed on the NFL non-football injury list, that allows the Giants to completely withhold  his salary until he recovers. I am not stating that they will, but riding the ATV could turn out to be an expensive one for him...

The extent of the injury isn't really known yet, nor is the recovery period. Certainly, Xavier downplays the impact and the recovery time, but that'll probably be up to the team doctor, or his/her recommended specialist. The management will not just take his diagnoses on this injury.

Hi did put the new management in a pickle to address his action and the resulting injury, mainly as it relates to their efforts for changing the culture. The team's options are wide open based on the contract and certainly, they'll will need to do changes to his captaincy and either no pay for for missing games, or just some fine. In my view, he deserve it.

PS: I am not advocating for trading him, that would be too much in my view...

Quote from: nb587 on September 19, 2022, 09:11:12 PMWhat does another component mean?  Getting something else?

The conditions per the New York Rangers press release is as follows:
  • If the Stars pick in the 2023 draft is in the top 10, the Rangers will get Dallas' own first round pick in the 2024 draft instead and the pick will be unprotected.
  • If Lundkvist produces 55 points cumulative over the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons, Dallas will transfer its own third-round pick in 2025 instead of the fourth-round pick in 2025.

Quote from: Jaime on July 17, 2022, 11:02:25 PMAs far as I can glean, Kraztsov was not injured in the KHL. He was injured during our Pre Season games 2021.  At first it was feared the injury was severe,  but upon later examination the injury  was downgraded to slight. As to why Kraztsov only played 19 games in the KHL, the Intel is sketchy.
The only reason I can come up with, is he may have arrived late in the season with only 19 games remaining(?).
He did score 13 points in 19 games six goals and seven assists.  Several of his Goals are of the Highlight reel caliber.

That's my recollection as well, the Tractor's season was well on its way when he arrived. Drury also had to sign the loaner agreement to let Kravtsov play in the KHL.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: NGT - Around the NFL thread

Quote from: MightyGiants on September 14, 2022, 08:22:24 AMI think there are some fair points in the article, but I have to think this sort of thing after one game may be a bit premature.  Still, Belichick is 70, I wonder if he is losing a bit off his fastball
Yeah, it is a bit premature, agreed. On the other hand, loosing couple of games during the "training session", it might be costly at the end...

Belichick may have outcoached himself, the Boston Globe believes so:

"The Patriots don't need a play-caller in training"

https://www.bostonherald.com/2022/09/14/guregian-the-patriots-dont-need-a-play-caller-in-training/

The article makes a pretty good argument to support their view...

Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on September 11, 2022, 10:27:53 AMHmmm...and we thought Big Brother was going to come from a swamp inside the DC beltway  :suspious:

Well, the swap certainly has its integral role in this. Big Brother is the enabler for surveillance capitalism on one hand, pretty much refuses to create regulations to protect our privacy. Whatever they have created has so much hole it , that you could drive through an 18-wheeler. On the other hand, the government is also a user of the surveillance, most of the times for free. If you'd say that it is not really free, since they had sold out our privacy, I wouldn't argue much with you...

Quote from: Ed Vette on September 11, 2022, 09:07:40 AMIf Siri is disabled, then I assume that Apple Car Play for navigation won't work for voice commands. Correct?

It is correct, albeit sometimes the car play doesn't even work with Siri enabled...  ;)

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on September 11, 2022, 09:17:54 AMI'll be perfectly honest - I have certainly read/heard stories about this sort of thing but for some naive reason I never fully believed or really worried about them. This thread has really woken me up to all of this.

I recommend you this book for further reading:

The Age of Surveillance Capitalism

This quote is pretty much an accurate description of the current status for our the digital world:

"Surveillance capitalism transfers the digital infrastructure from what we have to a thing that has us"

Off or online doesn't matter anymore, they really got us...

Quote from: MightyGiants on September 10, 2022, 01:59:11 PMMore specifically, my Facebook app.  I am very familiar with cookies, and how after I research tires for my car, there will be ads for tires on various websites I visit.

On the other hand, this was a bit more unsettling.  I wasn't researching home blood pressure cuffs, but I was talking to someone who was researching them.  A little while later, I go on to Facebook to acknowledge B-day wishes, and the first ad just happens to be "top 5 blood pressure monitors".  I am having a hard time accepting that was just an amazing coincidence

Rich, Facebook spying on you is a given, among other social network apps. For that matter any other apps are doing the same, that's their main source of income. Yes, I just beat up on apps for smartphone, but should do the same to the Android and iOS based smartphone as well. Google pays $8-10B/year to Apple to be the default search engine for Siri. Maybe Apple isn't spying on you, doubtful, but certainly allows Google to do just that for the yearly fee.

One way for cutting them off is only have apps installed that you actually need. In my case, that's 3-4 apps aside from the standard iOS apps that are left on my iPhone. The other way is to use NextDNS and block certain sites; I block google.com (shuts off Siri in addition to being disabled in iOS) among others and even some Apple domains, especially the one with telemetry reporting.

You could also disable WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS, if you don't use them. These are the services that define your exact location, valuable for advertisers. If the apps work without cell connections, disable their access to cell service. For example,I use the "MapmyRide" app, when going out biking. the app can have access to GPS, but not to cell and/or WiFi connections. It works just fine, records my route, speed, time etc., but no connection to the internet and as such, no uploading my data.

I am the first one to admit, that despite all of my trying to limit collecting my data, it's an uphill battle that I am loosing. When tracking is an integral part of the operating systems, the only thing one can do is not using any of them. That's really not an option in year 2022, is it?

If you want to see the domains that your iPhone has contacted to, go to:

"Settings\Privacy\App Privacy Report"

Tap on "Show All" under "MOST CONTACTED DOMAINS" to view the domains your iPhone had connected to. The chances are that you didn't initiate connection to roughly 30-40% of these domains, but your iPhone/apps did anyway...

I had three Covid shots and pretty much will stop there. I've seen people in really bad shape after getting the second booster, including my neighbor. They go from doctor-to-doctor, but they don't find anything to fix them. There's no reason for me for getting the 2nd and possibly subsequent bosters. I still wear mask, wash my hands, avoid large gathering, etc., for protection. I find it ironic that back in the days, when Covid infection rates were ~5%, CDC required us to wear mask. Nowadays, when the infection rate is ~10%, the CDC says, nah, you ok...

I haven't had Covid infection as of yet, but the long Covid looks scary. The CDC data shows, that 1-in-13 adults have long Covid. That's lot of people already suffering from it and this number will increase as the infection continuous to spread. And spread it will, since the Covid shot will not prevent getting infected, mildly infected is still an infection...

Little by having a discussion with her mommy in the morning...

Boy: Mom, why were you bouncing last night on daddy naked?
Mom: Son, your daddy has a big belly and tried pushing it back...

Sounds reasonable explanation, but not for the little boy...

Boy: It's no use mom, our neighbors wife keeps blowing it up during the day....
