I think PFF is becoming more pathetic by the day. The owners of that site are making Bernie Madoff prouder by the day.

Is Munson quicker than Herzlich?

I agree his pad level and hand placement are also issues, but the fact that he gives ground so easily in pass protection tells you that his quickness and agility are also real issues. He clearly has trouble with his kick-back thus why he has to give ground in order to set an edge against speed rushers.

Echucks,

Initially going backwards is part of the Giants blocking scheme (notice they all do it).   The problem is Flowers is not anchoring when contact is made.   The reason he is failing to anchor, despite his size and strength) is his pad level is way too high and he often leaves his chest undefended.   This allows the defender to get underneath his pads and lift him up causing Flowers to lose balance and all his strength (it's a leverage thing, the defender is essentially using Flowers own long body as a lever to move his feet).   It allows guys lighter and weaker than him to dominate.  When Flowers gets his pads low and defends his chest there isn't a DE or LB in the league capable of bull rushing him, as he is too strong and too big.

I will say this, Flower's issues are not speed related.  His two issues are his pad levels (he needs to have much better knee bend so that he can gain more power and leverage) and poor hand usage.  I see some improvement from last year but I also see an issue with his consistency (which is very important for an offensive lineman).  There are plays where Flower's has good technique and results.  That shows me he is capable of playing well.  The challenge is for him to do so on the vast majority of his snaps.

Even if it was accurate one pre-season performance does not negate 11 years of ineffectiveness.

People are getting in the 'I told you so' line about Flowers after three years yet somehow we think that Johnson can be a reasonable back-up after 11 years of demonstrating the opposite?

This is good news for the Giants.  The team is getting a bit thin at LB and Thomas isn't a terrible LB.  So getting him at a discounted rate is a good thing

Given his lack of availability thus far, should we be hoping this Munson fellow beats him out for a lb spot?

Personally I'll wait and see what THIS season brings before I start looking at what we should change for NEXT season.

I have known Gordon for a long time.  I have no doubt he has an intelligent, logical and sound reason behind his comments.   I like when people are present their sound views, especially when they are outside the regular group think that BBH has a tendency to fall into.

I get your answer.  Since, as you say, Gordon has a logical & sound reason, I'm waiting for him to tell it.  But, I'd like to know YOUR reason for liking Eli to end his Giant Career in '17.  Who do you plan on being the QB for '18?
