Quote from: Jclayton92 on Today at 11:04:46 AMWhich Giants fans did they poll because everywhere I go the vocal majority want a fresh start at Qb and it's not close. Most seem to fear that a wr would just end up like every other receiving option we've had the past half decade.

Also they gave way to many options, should have just been wr, qb, or other.

That's what extreme personal bias can do to you, Jess. Ever think of that?

I understand the point of the question. However, by now, we should have gained a realistic view of risk/reward/opportunity/chance as it applies to the Draft. Thus, I'd hate to think that hole-filling must exclude star-collecting. Why would we choose to handicap ourselves before we start?  :-?? Still, I do get it! It's always as much about luck as it is about anything else.

Quote from: MightyGiants on Today at 09:36:24 AMFor the record, I am good either way.  If the Giants take a QB I will be fine (I will be less fine if they give up draft assets to trade up, but I am not going to be upset) and I will be fine if the Giants don't draft a QB and ride with Jones for another season and acquire an elite WR prospect.

The harsh reality is that my opinions of any of the Giants' decisions will be based on far less information and knowledge of facts than Schoen and Daboll will have in making their choices.  It would be sort of arrogant of me to think I will know better with less intel.  I appreciate that it's quite possible that the decision Schoen and Daboll make could prove to be incorrect, but I am not in a position to second-guess it without more information (like how things play out over time).

Unfortunately, not everyone here shares your view, Rich. Quite obviously, while honest criticism is to be welcomed, there are a few bias-bound folks right here, every day, who'd rather bash than root as likely will become apparent next week.

Cheers!

Content is content and little more than that. Still, it's not hard to see a basis for Rich Eisen's rather widely shared view nor is Joe Schoen's stance in any way unreasonable.

If there is to be a right or wrong, a win or lose in such matter, that should become clear 6 days from now if the Giants have an opportunity to take a QB at 6 and choose otherwise. And in such event, we can be sure that certain parties right here will make clear their BM&W displeasure.

It's not hard to see why given that the $350K workout bonus is small change when he compares his current 2024 $6.2 million contract to those of others: e.g., Gabe Davis and Darnell Mooney who have been less productive yet are paid more than twice as much.

Slayton has had between 724 and 770 yards per as the Giants leading WR for 4 of the past 5 seasons while during that time his 15.1 yards per reception are fourth most among the 79 pass-catchers with 200-plus receptions. But chances are he now is concerned that if, as is likely, the Giants add a much more highly rated, and productive WR1 to go with the still developing Hyatt and Robinson, it will be at the expense of his production and future with the team.

And if so, good luck and best wishes to him.

Whether or not most accurate, it does seem quite reasonable, and consistent with the broad consensus

As always, well done, guys.

My impression is that the sum of needs, costs and performance estimates, barring a math failure, will sustain the current Mock Draft consensus of a WR1 being either Nabers or Odunze which I then see as matter of our exhaustively analyzed, bias-free personal preference.  <:-P

I do understand that this is how we may choose to occupy ourselves, but until I see one of them and his team win their Conference, i.e. play for a Lombardi, the term "prospect" will continue to be not just be a matter of someone's opinion but will also mean little or nothing to me.

Let me know if you feel that I am being too cynical.

Quote from: Philosophers on April 15, 2024, 07:27:46 PMI think your point of OBJ changing a bit once Randle came in to play X is my question.  Frankly Nabers can play all three positions but if he plays Z (Hyatt's position) or slot (Robinson's) we lose one of them and I still dont know who plays X.

If the Giants add Nabers, he will be WR1 wherever he lines up. That might be at Y in addition to, or in place of Slayton, or X if they decide to switch Hyatt to the Y. Moreover, it's not like SWR is necessarily of lesser importance as that's where we usually find guys like CeeDee Lamb, Keenan Allen, Cooper Kupp, and Adam Thielen.

Exactly where Nabers will play if not as the Y will be decided in due course, if and when. And in the event, it should be thought of as a benefit not a problem.

Quote from: Philosophers on April 15, 2024, 12:47:43 PMMy question Larry about those stats for Nabers is that he played slot 50% of the time.  How much production of his came from the slot vs X vs Z?  My gut tells me his slot production is disproportionately higher compared to X or Z.  If true, i think he is less of a fit given Robinson on the team.

I know of nothing, nor have I seen anything to suggest that Nabers played slot anything like 50 percent of the time, Joseph. Indeed, he rarely ever did.

Aside from agreeing with Mitch that it would hardly matter if he did- just look at his production- Nabers was LSU's wide side Z-Receiver. That, by the way, was where OBJ played at LSU and initially for the Giants. That was until they added Rueben Randle and decided to move OBJ to the X-. Thereafter, it didn't take long before they started toggling him between X, Z, and Slot.

I may be sticking my neck out, and I am an Odunze fan- but I think Nabers can be every bit as good a pass catcher as was OBJ.

Do we really not understand that unless Daniel Jones comes back healthy and has remarkable success this season, anything less in terms of cost/performance will ensure that he will not be the Giants QB, or on the roster in the future?

If so, do we- even the most biased of us- not recognize that Schoen & Co. must justify what is still owed to DJ in terms of both money and the best support they can give him re Oline pass protection, and improved WR skills whether with Ondunze, Nabers, or Harrison Jr.?

Whether they will draft a WR at 6 and thus join the Mock WAG consensus, or do otherwise in meeting with our approval, we will know in 12 days and probably no sooner.

Cheers!
