Title: An under-rated WR prospect (so far), a future star
Post by: XNYrnLA on February 18, 2017, 02:52:12 PM
With the departure of Cruz and the potential cap-busting demands to resign OBJ, acquiring a top-notch Receiver is now a clear need for the Giants.
As I've been watching tape, one player clearly stands out with the movement skills, hand-eye coordination, hands and catching radius:
East Carolina's Zay Jones steadily improved throughout his career and last year he was able to catch 158 passes for 1746 yards and over 145 ypg!
In my eyes, more importantly his abilities projects very well to the next level.
Here is a highlight clip on this play-maker: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qwU24kNKQ8 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qwU24kNKQ8)

If we are able to address OT in FA and keep our Dline in tact, we might afford to spend our 2nd on this prolific but under-rated prospect.

I'd sooner have Penn State WR Chris Godwin. But he'll go at least two rounds higher than I'd ideally want to draft a WR this year

I would not be too surprised to see the Giants be more aggressive than people expect in getting a 3rd recieving threat.  If that is in the draft or FA, I dont know.

x & UK, good gets guys.
I suspect they'll be some kind of move for a 3rd WR.

I thought we needed a 6"3" or 6.'4" WR, not another one who may be 6'0" or 6'!".

Good find! Great catching radius and gets the yards after catch. Loved the play where he drove through several defenders for extra yards.

A third WR option can also be a TE.

Thinking TE is a given, no? :-??

Seemed to have good hands, but there were a lot of busted coverages in that hi-lite clip. Didn't have top end speed.

As much as my opinion  is worth to JR, I would demand a LT first  if available. If not a top TE next and finally a monster guard.  Please no Adrian Peterson! As for JPP let him walk. Just ask what would Belicheck
do.

That is very true. With all due respect to this thread and XLA, the Giants already have two smallish Xs on this roster in Lewis and King.  What they don't have and need is a big WR in the 6-3+ range.

Highlight videos don't offer much in terms of judging a prospect.

I suggest using draft breakdown which provides cutups of all of a player's downs in a game

Watched him in the Senior Bowl and this kid's catch radius is crazy.  Plays a lot taller than he is because of it. I think he would be a great fit.

Reminds me of OBJ with the catching radius.

How many tall receivers do the Super Bowl champs have?

Todge,
The Patriots proved again that there is not a very specific size or speed requirement for Wide Receivers and possibly other skilled positions... the only requirement is talent and ability... the best barometer for equating that in prospects is achievement stats and this kid has proven he can play at a high level at the position.

Having Brady drop passes on your hands helps a bit too.

So are you saying that in Giant management meetings, they are pointing to the Pats as not having a big WR on their team.  So they don't need one either?  OK I guess we will see.
