Big Blue Huddle / NGT Old Fashioned Big East Game
November 23, 2022, 07:19:29 AM
Last night we old Big East Basketball fans were treated to an old-fashioned game between St. John's & Syracuse.  This is what we were treated to all the time.  It's really too bad that football came along to tear it all apart.

Big Blue Huddle / Why All the Weeping & Moaning?
October 30, 2022, 08:23:30 PM
We were supposed to be a minor team just trying to patch things up this season.  Practically nobody expected us to win as much as six games.  And here we are at 6 - 2! =D>  =D>  =D>   IMHO I think we all should celebrate that during the Bye week.

The Front Porch / Spam Risk
June 07, 2022, 07:18:47 PM
Hi all, does anyone know what SPAM RISK is?  I keep getting telephone calls from it.  This happens at least four or five times each day.  If I do try to answer, I hear nothing back.  Do any of you ever get these weird calls?

The Front Porch / Movies' Characters
March 30, 2022, 12:39:33 AM
We've had such fun on our current Movies thread that I thought that I mind turn it in a different direction.  By placing a character's name on the screen we'd be asking the others if they can come with the name of the movie.  You can tell me what you think of the idea by the way you join this thread.  So, here goes:

1.  Dorothy

2.  Leonard S. Vole

3.  Pontius Pilate

4.  James J. Braddock

5.  Richard Rich

6. Apollo Creed

7.  Aleta

8.  General Turgidson

The Front Porch / "The Rifle"
June 15, 2021, 10:16:01 PM
Here's a GREAT new book, made for history buffs especially those interested in military history (that's you Lenny & Rich).  It's stories from some of the still living WW II vets.  They're all from guys in their 90s & over.  Each has a story of the "small" part he played in the Big War.  My wife just finished it & I started reading it today.  It's available through Amazon & my wife & I recommend it highly.

The Front Porch / Greatest Movie Ever Made
March 15, 2021, 08:12:44 PM
Lenny wanted somebody to attempt this thread.  So, I guess I'll do it. :ok: :ok: :ok:

Now, I'm sure there'll be a lot of films mentioned in this thread.  And, that's OK.  And, nobody will be wrong because, after all, each picture named will be a personal choice.  But, please give your reason/s.

I'll start of.  And, I agree 100% with Weeze who already posted his choice on another thread:

"Ben Hur"

1. Directed by one of the all-time great Directors; William Wyler.

2. A grand epic picture that kept its personal stories on a "little screen" level.

3. A fine strong actor, Charlton Heston, in a life time Acadaemy Award performance.

4.  Great performances by the entire cast.

5. One of the greatest action sequences ever filmed; the Chariot Race.

6. IMO, the greatest film score ever written by Miklos Rozsa.

Lenny, please hold off for a couple of days to see if anyone else might be interested.  OK?

See if you can identify the movies associated with the following quote:

1.  I ain't goin' down no more!

2.  Lady, ever see a man looks like this?

3.  Captain, I just threw your stinkin' potted plant overboard!

4.  It means she's gonna have puppies.

5.  Mother of Mercy, is this the end of Rico?

6.  Let's say a prayer for a kid who couldn't run as fast as I could.

7.  You're all under arrest!  Pack up your gear and come with me!

8.  Call me Ishmael.

9.  Here's lookin' at you, kid!

10. Rosebud!

BBH Baseball Board / 1986 Playoffs
March 29, 2020, 06:26:05 PM
I just watched an interesting item on the MLB Channel; the 1986 Playoffs.  It covered the amazing playoffs that both the Mets & Red Sox had.  The main time was spent on the actual Series itself  The Interviewers had Mookie Wilson from the Mets and Bruce Hurst & Kevin Schiraldi from the Sox.  It was apparently filmed in 2011 since they talking about "25 years ago."  In any event, I found it interesting in that I learned about various decisions were made during the games; something I knew nothing about.  Discussing the game Six excitement, one thing they didn't stress was Bob Stanley's WP that brought in the Mets' tying run.  To me, that's always been THE big play.  I don't remember when a WP had previously happened, but as Stanley came in, I kept saying to myself, "Wild pitch, wild pitch!"  And, it happened!!!!

BBH Baseball Board / Mets' Lost Weekend

Back in ther olden days, real doubleheaders were played throughout both leagues on the main Holidays; Memorial Day, Independence Day & Labor Day.  They were even scheduled on the occasional Sunday.  Yesterday, there were NONE of course.  The Mets were even scheduled for an Off Day!!!!  Is that part of the Labor Agreement?  If it is, that's stupid.  Of course, today's players are different from those in the olden days.  Ernie Banks used to say, "It's a beautiful day.  Let's play two!"

Giants History / "The League"
December 28, 2018, 10:28:02 PM
I posted this as a thread on the main Board & it went nowhere.  I just finished reading it.  Anyone interested in Giants' history should read this!  I found out a lot I didn't know.  Basically, it covers the first four decades of the NFL.  I strongly suggest it.
