Big Blue Huddle / Re: Davis Webb: Broncos new QB Coach

Quote from: MightyGiants on February 24, 2023, 07:11:47 AMI think that was a real possibility.  When you consider the timing,it almost seems like he waited until he knew a job with the Giants was off the table.
I would think that most would be willing to accept that just because he doesn't have the physical ability to do himself, doesn't mean he isn't knowledgeable.

Quote from: BluesCruz on January 28, 2023, 01:58:07 PMIf you were tasked as a DB to keep up with Bolt, you probably would not be laughing
It would not hurt to ask him to come up for a tryout. He was so rich from endorsements he probably would have laughed at our asking.  not now.  Its just an out of the box thought

People laughed when the Cowboys brought in Bob Hayes.  After a few games the laughter died down
I believe he and Homer are in the HOF.  Both were Olympic sprint champions

Speed Kills.    No joke
You can't teach speed ;)

Given the shelf life of RBs, and how good RBs can be found in later rounds, I would never invest that much in that position.

Quote from: EDjohnst1981 on October 27, 2022, 01:33:57 PMSo a highly successful, offensive minded and experienced NFL coach decides he's worth parting a 3rd round pick with?

This 'rap thing' is overblown in my opinion.

That doesn't make much sense to me.
If a regime is willing to move on so soon from a first rounder, then the player is not only not helping the team but likely hurting it.

I trust Daboll and Schoen more than the fans, and I hated the trade down from the start (wanted parsons or Slater)... even after the trade when Darrisaw was still there I was almost screaming when we took Toney instead.

Quote from: EDjohnst1981 on October 27, 2022, 01:10:34 PMI chose disapprove and it looks like I'm in the minority, when looking at the other thread.

We've all loved the job the coaching this regime has done. I don't believe they couldn't have gotten the best out of him and found a place for him.

In limited performances (was it Dallas last year) he went off for nearly 200 yards. Those blokes don't grow on trees.

The guy has been injured, any other claims about a lack of interest is just pure speculation and should be viewed as such until there's evidence there's a modicum of truth it in.

The guy, in my view, had a near unique skill set for this team.

Wide receivers are either run off the mill like Shep and Slayton or complete headaches like Toney/OBJ and countless others.

I'd work with the headache and extract his skills. That's what a top coach would do.

This isn't a knock on anyone in particular, I'm elated with our progress but I just think in 3 years time, we will look back on this and feel we've had our pants pulled down and been bent over.

I'd also wager a bet that within 3 years he contributes to a superbowl winning team and makes at least one pro bowl (now I'm speculating). But I do think he's immensely talented player and I would have stayed the course unless the puck was in the top 40/50.
Yeah he went off that one time, but that doesn't mean a thing. Ramses Barden had a 9 catch 138yd game and how did he turn out?

In a single word: elated.

He doesn't give a crap about the team or football. He wants to further his rap career. Don't want guys like him in this locker room, Daboll is trying to build a culture.

NFL Draft, NY Giants style / Re: Trading draft picks
March 13, 2017, 09:35:24 PM
Sure trading a 1 for a guaranteed starter sounds like a good idea, but to be established enough in the league, they've likely been through their contract and are now looking for $$$.  So now, it's a matter of losing a potential young prospect AND losing that rookie contract they're locked into.  So while yes, if you've got cap space and can toss out your first or second rounder to grab 'certified' talent, it may be worth it, but it might not be.

The draft is a crapshoot, but sometimes you roll 7's... I'd want more rolls of the dice and a chance of jackpot more than I'd want small pots that still carry risk.

BBH Archive / Re: Tribute To Coach Tom Coughlin
January 04, 2016, 10:25:09 PM
We are truly privileged to have had Coach Coughlin with us all these years.  There is no doubt he will end up in the Hall.  He was the epitome of class, and made us all proud that he bled Blue.

Thank you Coach, it was a hell of a ride :)

The financial numbers seem to be the major thing holding it back.  From what I understand, back in 2004 when they departed to keep the team in Montreal would have cost approximately 150mil, whereas now to relocate the franchise back most news sites are speculating the costs would be in the 1 to 1.2 billion price point (assuming a new stadium is built, which is a large deciding factor on whether or not MLB approves a return).  I look at this like from a "Winnipeg Jets" standpoint, the team has their resurgence, but for how long?  Is it a viable market?  Population wise, Montreal has the numbers; but Montreal is THE hockey town.  Is there enough room for baseball again?  I look at Toronto as a gauge.  Toronto isn't doing badly, about 14th in the league in avg attendance last year.  As a kid, I remember going to Jays games pretty frequently with dad.  Then the strike happened.  Haven't been to a game since.  The Jays have a loyal following now, but nowhere near the support they used to have.  Of all my friends and family, my father in law is the only one I know who's been to more than 1 Blue Jays game in the past 5 years.  Everyone else just doesn't seem to care.

Toronto is another big hockey town.  Lots don't go to leaf games just cause the ticket prices are exorbitant, but the fan base is HUGE.  The Jays are surviving here, but not thriving.  One has to wonder who in Montreal will take the gamble when baseball has already left once and the price so high now.

Personally, I think you'll see the Nordiques return before the Expos.

Attendance was low, but there was a lot going on with the Montreal closure.  This is directly from the wiki:

BBH Archive / Re: the MVP and Rookie of the year

As much as I love Peyton, AP is really all the Vikes have lol... He's HAS to be MVP.

And Luck should be ROTY, but the media <3's RG3, so he'll get it.

After looking over the Tailgate board, they seem to run the board very similar to ours (intelligent, thought out discussion; regular posters).  I can't see any cons in this move really.  What's worst case scenario?  The boards don't gel, part ways, and we're back to square one.  The pros of having more regular members posting and offering new thoughts and opinions is too good to pass up.

I'm all for it.
