Big Blue Huddle / Our Home Field "Advantage"
September 12, 2023, 10:46:07 AM
So after sitting through a deluge Sunday night and watching the worst football game in person that I likely ever have, I have had a chance to reflect a bit on the evening.

1. There had to be at least 1/3 Cowboys fans there, and they were much more vocal than the Giants fans, even early in the game.

2. The stadium sounded like a morgue from the second quarter on.  I know the score was not in our favor, but there was no energy whatsoever.  The video boards would ask for noise or to wave our towels, and no one was listening.  I am not sure I have ever seen it so quiet before.

3. The stadium was at least half cleared out by halftime and all the Cowboys fans moved down by the field.  Which was a nightmare to sit around.  They were all taking pictures, celebrating together, having a party.

I am not sure if this is a result of PSL's and/or HDTV where fans don't go much anymore and sell tickets to the highest bidder, but our stadium is honestly a pathetic excuse for a home field advantage.  This is the NY area, not the middle of nowhere.  I think the Jets fans are much more into it than Giants fans, so this must be mostly a Giants thing then.  Was very sad to see honestly, and a long way from games I went to see with my dad and uncles in the 80's.

For as much as I love the draft, it is getting harder and harder to watch.  The fans in the audience where half of them likely know next to nothing about football is bad enough.  But all the people they let announce picks on stage that are complete buffoons, all the cross promotion with NFL Europe, the NFL patting themselves on the back constantly with everything they do for the community and others in general, current NFL players making picks in random places in the world.... can we just announce the picks please?

Big Blue Huddle / NGT: QB as a % of the Cap
January 30, 2023, 05:49:51 PM
Maybe this is a silly topic to put out there, but when did the teams establish that QB's should make up like 20% of the cap?  This is the same silly argument that MLB has that top pitchers should be like $40MM a year.  I wonder if a statistical analysis has been done to determine what the true value of a starting QB is, or specifically one that is a stud.

This has been said elsewhere, but while the top QB's are probably worth being 20%, not all of them are.  If your cap is based on the Top 51 players, that means each should make up ~2% of the cap on average.  Some are less and some more of course, but unless you are Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, etc., how can you rationalize 20%?

Just like I might want 2 $20MM pitchers versus one Verlander or Scherzer or DeGrom, I really wonder if one $15-20MM QB and having an extra $20-25MM cap space is the better option.

Big Blue Huddle / Saquon

Another night where he wasn't utilized a lot. I know we were down big and that limited things, but I start to wonder if the giants are not planning on signing him long term.

Big Blue Huddle / 4th and 8
January 21, 2023, 11:24:12 PM
I know Daboll has been aggressive all year, but as soon as they lined up to go for it, I said to my son that I don't like this at all. Maybe I am overthinking it, but I felt like maybe the team felt like Daboll panicked a bit. That he was too aggressive right away and when it didn't work, the team lost something. We moved the ball decently that drive but after that play, we didn't do anything the rest of the half on either side of the ball.
