Quote from: DaveBrown74 on March 28, 2024, 06:33:51 PMI can see why this would rub many NFL fans the wrong way, and I understand why, but for me it's still all about what the player does on the field and how he treats and interacts with his teammates. The rest is noise to me. If those two overriding factors are strong, then I don't care how he dresses, what he does with his hair, or even if he paints his nails, personally.

Dennis Rodman was doing stuff like this (and way, way more by the way) several decades ago, and he was an absolutely pivotal part of two different championship winning NBA franchises. The Celtics are the best or second best team in the NBA right now, and there is a key guy on the team with florescent green hair.

You can run an NFL team with the mindset of only looking for guys who look like they were plucked from central casting for a 1950s Ovaltine commercial. That's one way to play it, and I'd say our owner is a bit like that. And it seems we have plenty of fans who prefer that sort of approach. But to me, it's about what the player does on the field, and how he interacts with his teammates and coaches. His physical appearance, hairstyle, or fashion sense is way down the list of things I care about. I want talented players who are winners and great teammates. I don't care what they look like.

Rodman did that after he became famous and established his high level of professional play not before he is trying to get to his first contract.

That's my concern for him.  Judgment.  Now he needs to be not drawing attention to himself this way.

I just read that Caleb has painted his nails pink and is walking around with a pink mobile phone.  I have nothing against color choices but folks will rush to judgment.  In no way does this help him and frankly folks may question his judgment to do something which may be misinterpreted.  Some here will say, "it doesn't matter."  Then it will.

Message to JJ.  Continue being you.

Quote from: MightyGiants on March 28, 2024, 03:19:15 PMI suspect it's also why a QB whose film seemed worthy of a first-round selection lasted to round two.  Ceri, you are absolutely correct in why they put them on the board.   The problem is far too many coaches just think to themselves, "I just need to coach this kid up".

Why Jeff George and Jay Cutler and Jake Plummer continued to be relevant.  Coaches always thinking they could get gold out of straw.

Those #s say he has lost too much

Yes.  100% about the injury concern.

Also in football it's not like you saw him run effectively so that speed matters little.

I think the Commanders at 2 drive everything.  Assuming Williams goes 1, we all know the Commanders will take a QB.  If they draft a QB NOT favored by other teams then the Pats and Cards picks really become valuable.

If the Commanders draft Maye and everyone else wanted Maye then I think trades are less likely to happen.

At the end of the day the things you cant teach a QB are accuracy, mental processing speed, awareness and confidence.  They have to have it themselves.  All this other stuff like throws off a good platform is noise.  If he's accurate, he can throw it standing on his head for all I care.  Joe Milton has great mechanics yet he can't hit an oak tree from 15 yards out.

Quote from: MightyGiants on March 28, 2024, 10:37:30 AMJoe,

It's always seemed to me that with QB, it's a special position. It's not like teams take the view of, "Well, if we don't get Jimbo, Bob will be just as good because he is nearly as talented."  There needs to be that special physical and intangible connection between the QB prospect and the team that drafts him.

You are probably right Rich about QB.  In retrospect, having Manning, Ben, or Rivers would all have worked out but at the time maybe Ernie did not think that would be the case.  Would hate to see draft assets given up and ideally your guy falls to you but if you have to go up and get him then so be it.

What is important is how close or far apart they have each QB ranked relative to each other.  Could they be close enough that they dont have to trade up?

The Raiders RT pickup in FA is the solution at RT unless Neals performs.  We have insurance.

The things listed above that Maye supposedly scare me sound like DJ things which I dont want to see again.  Mental processing miscues.  No thanks.

Quote from: katkavage on March 28, 2024, 09:51:29 AMI think they believe they are close enough that they they can get their guy. It's now or never for both Schoen and Daboll. In the perfect world they would have gotten their guy two years ago but there wasn't anyone out there and couldn't give up on Jones so quickly.

Yes 100%.  Close enough like at 4 in the Manning year to do something big.

I believe this is way more than just lining up prospects for their draft board.  This feels like the Manning year where they want to firmly stamp the next 10 years with a new Giants QB.  I think they will do whatever to get their guy as Accorsi did.

Penix seems to need a really clean pocket to play well.  The last time the Giants could regularly provide clean pockets was..................

Get a QB in round 1 otherwise forget QB and load up on other positions and wait til 2025.
