Big Blue Huddle / 2024 Strategy
February 18, 2024, 11:26:38 AM
My advice, I know is worth nothing to the Giants and their brass. And it probably is worth nothing to all of you too. But I'm offering it anyway whether you like it or not.

The Giants should approach the upcoming season as they should have approached, and did in a way, the 2022 season. No expectations beyond getting better as a team. Now, after the aberration of 2022, they are set back a couple of years and because of that the coach and GM are on thinner ice. This will influence their decision-making. Daniel Jones, as Schoen has stated (and due to his contract), is the lead QB, if healthy, going into next season. And I hope he is healthy and plays well. Regardless of that, the Giants should, and I believe they will, draft a QB in the draft as well as add a veteran or re-sign Taylor. Whoever that QB drafted will be, I believe, Schoen will hope to be the future QB of the team. If Jones stays healthy and plays well, he will be a valuable trade asset while the future QB gets time to adjust to the NFL while the team upgrades the line and receivers. The strategy going forward should still be long term even though the leash is getting tighter on the coach and GM. Again, getting a QB in the draft does not preclude upgrading the offensive line, the receivers, and the defense. They all must be addressed but because of where they are in the draft and the number of QBs available, that must be taken care of this year.

Big Blue Huddle / Who was the last...

Head coach of the Giants from the defensive side of the ball? Just asking.

Big Blue Huddle / NFC Least
January 16, 2024, 07:09:51 AM
After Sunday's drubbing of the Cowboys and last night's rout of the Eagles, the NFC East might be turning into the least again. Or a changing of the guard? Washington has new owners. We shall see what direction they take once a coach is hired to work with the GM. They will most likely have one of the top three QBs in the draft. The Cowboys have the most talent and will continue to, but they will lose their DC and most likely their head coach. Who can harness that talent? The Eagles are a shambles now. They usually make bold moves that result in short term success. The head coach is over his head. The lines are aging. They have work to do to get back to prominence next year. The Giants? I'd say the division would be ripe for the taking  but they have as many question marks as any of the other teams. Obviously without a top QB it will depend on a magnificent defense and workmanlike offense to be competitive next year. If they can get a top QB that would be a start. And now the head coach is not in as stable a position as Giants fan and the NFL thought. After a very nice debut year, he suffered a serious sophomore jinx with poor preparation and head-scratching decisions. Now there is, at least in the media, turmoil among his staff. Can he learn from his mistakes and grow? Or will it disintegrate for him and will he, like so many others, just be better suited as a coordinator than a head coach? Next year should answer many of those questions.

Big Blue Huddle / Hurts and Allen

I got to say, as a Giants fan it hurts to see such stellar QB play of those two from afar. The Giants are light years away from talent like that.

Big Blue Huddle / Draft decision
October 09, 2023, 12:14:02 PM
As of today, if the Giants are one of the top five picks in the draft, what position would you draft of the three most valuable positions on the field. QB? Tackle? Edge?

Big Blue Huddle / 1-2
September 22, 2023, 11:49:05 AM
Isn't 1-2 where most of us thought the Giants would be at this point? We all hoped for a win against Dallas based on the false impressions that often happen during preseason games. Maybe some day we will learn never to take anything from training camp and exhibition games except the injury report. They lost bad to two superior teams and squeaked a win against one of the worst teams in the NFL. Judging from the first three games, the Giants are closer to the bottom than the top. But it's early in the season. They can turn it around to a point. But let's all be real. This is not a top tier team.

Big Blue Huddle / October 22
September 13, 2023, 01:52:21 PM
We are all speculating about the team after one game, albeit a horror show for the Giants. They are expected to win Sunday against one of the lesser teams in the league and lose the following Thursday to one of the better teams in the league. That leaves them, most likely, at 1-3. I feel the following three games, Dolphins, Bills and Commanders will be the most telling three and will give us a better idea of what kind of team they are and will be in 2023. You could make a case to extend that to the Jet's game the end of October, but by then, we will know if this team has any shot at the playoffs.

The Front Porch / The Assault on Democracy
May 06, 2021, 11:27:48 AM
There was a time the Republican party stood up for democracy. No more. They are a clear minority in terms of numbers and that has them in a panic mode. So they align themselves with a man who is a habitual liar and abandoned their core principles. And now they are trying to limit voting access in hopes to quell what they have lost in numbers. It is apparent, they no longer believe in democracy. Sad and a very danger to the future of our country.
