Quote from: DaveBrown74 on Today at 05:15:02 PMJust don't see Penix being the one they want to trade unless he plays terribly or gets hurt again.
It's a terrible situation for Penix. If he went to Denver or the Raiders he would have a chance to start. Atlanta picks him up and he has to sit and know the only way he gets in is if Cousins gets hurt. I feel bad for the kid.

DB or interior offensive line. I wouldn't draft a rb until day three.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: QB Rankings
Quote from: Philosophers on Today at 12:23:13 PMIf DJ got to 12th (where Hurts is), I dont think we'd have the Eagles record because they have so many better players than the Giants do.  To be the Eagles DJ would have to be more like 5th - 7th or 12th with all the Giants players getting much better.

I doubt DJ can be 5th-7th.

That's how I see it.
He's got a long road to climb to get into the top ten. And I'm sure one of the rookies will emerge as well.

Looking back on it, Nabers was always the pick. Sure, they flirted and teased with the potential QBs, but it wasn't going to happen. And if Nabers wasn't there, they would have taken Odunze. No doubt. They invested too much money in Jones to move on from him and not at least try to get their money's worth. They hope that providing him with a weapon like Nabers they can at least recoup some of that money in terms of wins. The Giants are a predictable, conservative franchise. They always have been, usually for the worse. That doesn't mean it won't work out this time. It might very well. But the track record with the Maras, father and son, has been, with the exception of when "outsiders" took control, pretty dismal. I'm old enough to have lived through so many of them and why I remain cynical. But time will tell on this pick and the choices they have made going forward.

Quote from: MightyGiants on Today at 07:51:48 AMTeam building is about increasing the team's overall talent level, ideally at key positions.  It's not about just one player, even QB.
I agree, but without elevating the most important position on the field, you are treading water.

Quote from: Bob In PA on Today at 07:48:12 AMkat: I don't see it that way. I see Nabers as the final piece to the puzzle on offense. I'm assuming they already have the running backs they need to do the offense the way THEY want to do it, not the way the fans want to see them do it. The Giants will now be a pass-first (modern NFL?) offense, not the traditional type you and I favor. Give them a chance. It won't be "Giants' football" on offense... but hopefully it will be winning football. Bob
I don't see what you see in the QB s that's the issue. I've seen the QB for five years and it's not changed. Not to mention he will be limited to start the season on top of the vulnerability he has to injury. You can't win in this league without stellar QB play, top 15 won't cut it.

If I'm Penix's agent, I work very hard to get Atlanta to trade him. It might not happen until training camp, but he has no chance to play unless Cousins gets hurt. There is no way they sit a QB who is making that much no matter how good the rookie behind him is. The pick was an all time blunder.

I have no doubt Nabers is an exceptional talent. But he won't move the needle much for the Giants as they are presently constructed. So it's nice to have a potentially all star caliber player on the roster, wide receivers don't have the impact without other pieces in place, particularly the QB. I'll be happy if I'm wrong, but that won't be evident for a long time.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on April 25, 2024, 10:20:41 PMI agree with you. I just looked at the Cousins contract. They're pretty much stuck with him through 2026. Completely bizarre that they signed him if they were willing to pick Penix in the top 10. Seems like they didn't scout Penix at all during the season, and then they jumped to signed Cousins, then they finally did some due diligence on Penix and fell in love with him.

Crazy way of doing things.
Maybe after next year, when they realize the error of their ways, Atlanta can trade him Penix to the Giants. They are stuck with Cousin's contract no matter what.

Quote from: Ed Vette on Today at 05:52:04 AMThey had JJ McCarthy sitting on their laps and they passed him up for a Number One Receiver. Regardless of whether they pick up one of the third tier QB's in Pratt or Rattler or a surprise in Milton, either Jones or Lock will be slinging the ball at least for this year and maybe in 2025 too. No if and or buts about it.
Agreed and we fans will shake our heads and bitch and moan here while the mediocrity cycle continues and the bodies of GMs and coaches lay scattered about the wreckage.

I see Williams, Daniels, and McCarthy all thriving. Maye will struggle with a very bad team around him. Nix I just don't think is very good though Payton might get something out of him. Penix got screwed. There is no way he plays for at least two years unless Cousins gets hurt (which is very possible). If I'm an Atlanta and/or Penix fan I'm pissed. It's not like Atlanta had the luxury to give up a first round pick for the distant future. They are that good.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on April 25, 2024, 09:54:46 PMAt least his rookie contract is going to be worth a lot more than if he went were a lot of people thought he would.
I think Atlanta got too cute with the pick and ignored other needs. Bad pick in my opinion for the team and the player.

I feel bad for Penix. You go to a team that just gave a QB a 4 year, 45 million contract. You only play if he gets hurt. And Penix is not a young rookie.

Tommy DeVito just breathed a sigh of relief. He might get another 15 minutes this year.
