The Front Porch / Re: Dance compellation

Glad you liked them, Lenn. I, too, like to watch dancing. When I was a younger man, I loved to dance and was always the first one to drag a woman to the dance floor. Not that I was any good, but I had a few moves and didn't embarrass myself (I don't think anyway). I remember back in the early 90's and I was really impressed by this woman who was in our ski club. She was silky smooth with dance moves, so I asked her how she learned to dance. She told me she started lessons at 3-years-old in Philadelphia and never stopped taking lessons. She was in perfect shape, about 35 yrs old, 5'8" 115-120 lbs, and told me she was a professional dancer. She dragged me to the dance floor and I was worried sick because I thought I'd look stupid as her partner on the floor (she drew a lot of attention, not only from me, but the whole crowd). Anyway, she insisted and told me she'd make me look good...and that she did. It was like driving power steering for the first time in my life. Any move I made, she countered in a way that looked like I planned it. She spun, dipped with my hand on her back and she felt like she weighed nothing. I was mesmerized by her...still am if truth be told

Anyway, in that first clip, I fell in love with Rita Hayworth. I always thought she was just another sexy, pretty actress that was before my time, like Anne Margaret or Audrey Hepburn. Heard her name off and on, but really knew nothing of her. Well she blew me away with her dancing and I think she outdanced Astaire. Flawless, smooth, perfect timing...and in a dress and high heels. All I could think was she reminded me of that girl I danced with who was a professional...only better. She's incredible  #:-S Made me think she'd be a good golfer because she held her head motionless while her body did crazy things and that is the key to being a good golfer - keeping your head completely still as your body turns, twists, whips, etc

You probably know more than half the people in the second clip. The woman who wants to hear music in the beginning is Rosario Dawson (the hottie in MIB II, Sin City, and about a hundred other movies), Tom Cruise of course, Jennifer Lopez in the red dress, Carmen Diaz in kid's underpants bending over and again later in the clip. And of course, Will Ferrel and Chris Kattan...never cared much for Ferrel's acting (overacting) and you probably wouldn't know Kattan unless you watched a lot of Saturday Night Live back in the 90's. Then there's Brad Pitt, Hugh Grant, Jason Strahan banging his head against the seat ahead of him, Jim Carey (who is actually a superb dancer...and an overactor), Rowan Atkinson (aka Mr. Bean who has one of the highest IQs in the world if you can believe that - 178), Rob Schneider, Ben Stiller, Kate Hudson (Goldie Hawn's daughter) was the girl on the left with two girls dancing in the living room, Will Smith, Jamie Lee Curtis falling in front of Arnold Schwarzenegger in "True Lies, Sven Otten (professional dancer), Catherine O'Hara (the mother in "Home Alone" and "Up Schitts Creek"), Shawn William Scott in "Road Trip" (hilarious movie), "American Pie" (aka Stiffler), "Old School", etc., , Nicolas Cage as a dancing priest, Jennifer Aniston, etc. The dance scene from "Pulp Fiction" with Uma Thurman and Travolta are both professional dancers. There's even a rock song about dancing like Uma Thurman...with a riff stolen from the Munster's tv show

But man-o-man, Rita Hayworth blows me away  #:-S  I think I'm in love

Found a couple on the different side of things for you Lenn...modern music...old dancers mashup

Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth rockin out to Led Zeppelin

Cut ups to the song "What is Love"...which actually used to be good dance song, but ruined for anyone who watched SNL's "Night at the Roxberry" and can't hear the song without thinking of that skit with Chris Katan, Will Ferrel, and Jim Carey. Hilarious skit (right up there with "livin in a van, down by the river" with Farley)...but it ruined the song forever. This video is saved by Sven Otten (the man with the black hat), who really can dance

Seldom do I completely mistake a voice being sung on the radio, but I heard this the other day and was shocked when I discovered it wasn't the Beatles. I've only heard the song a few times in my life and always thought it was a pretty underappreciated Beatles' song

Nope...looked it up on my "Shazam" app and it practically knocked me over. My first thought was that they were wrong because I know the voice of a Beatle when I hear it...or so I thought anyway

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Would Arizona trade down?

Ideal hypothetical position:

JJ is still on the board and Minnesota desperately wants him. They trade both their first rounders and a 4th to the Giants to move up to 6th. If one of the WRs/TE(Bowers) is still on the board, Giants trade their new no.11 pick and a 3rd (or some kind of combinations of picks) to move back up to get him

Giants still have two first rd picks and everybody's happy :what:

Mitch is back, even thought he didn't start. Knicks are on fire and put up their highest point total last night against Toronto 9145 pts). Deuce continues his roll. Kid has got game! Started...played 40 minutes...29pts (9/14 3pts 64.2%)...7 assists...1 steal, and 3 RBs

No!

I agree that we should take a stud receiver in the first (Harrison, Odunze, Nabors, or Bowers), but after that, we should stagger offense and defense...like

1 WR1 or Blue chip TE
2 DL or freak of nature LB Payton Wilson
3 OG (someone like future HOF'er Zac Zinter, who would be first off the board if not for his injury. He can sit a year and become the mainstay OG for the next decade ala Zack Martin
4 S or CB or DL if we take LB in 2nd (Myles Cole would be an ideal replacement of Leo as a D3)
5 RB (a bruiser like Braelon Allen (6'2"/245 lbs...who ran a 4.40 at the combine)
6 S/CB/or OG/OT like Walter Rouse (could be a swing tackle or dominating guard of the future)

QB - wait until this year is over and see what we have in DJ and Drew. If we draft a QB, DeVito gets cut when rosters have to be shaved down at team limit

I would be shocked if they all went in the first. Perfect opportunity to trade down a little and snag extra picks, if that is the case. On the other hand, maybe Harrison will fall in our laps  :-??

I read somewhere several weeks ago by some beat writer (so this info is useless) that Maye is DJ 2.0  :-??

I know you probably missed it but I watched Poor Things about a month ago and wrote a detailed review also (Post 998). Funny we sort of both came away with similar thoughts.

I did miss it Lenn, so I went back about 5 pages and found it. Your take is pretty much my take on it. I tend to think this movie will become a classic down the road

Best line in the movie (after discovering sex and opting to work in a brothel): "You mean I get to have sex and get paid? What a perfect job!"...LOL (not exact words, but you get the drift)

I bought a dozen glasses and handed them out to my kids and grandkids. I'm taking a load of grandkids about 75 miles straight north to be in the dead center of the path...depending on the weather. If it's cloudy east of Lake Ontario, I'll just go straight up to Oswego, or head towards Rochester if it's the only way to get a clear sky. Either way, it's going to be totally dark, but I'd like to see the ring of fire around the black moon. I have to leave a couple of hours early because of the traffic expected on Route 81. Newspapers are saying the highways are going to be packed. Really hope there are no accidents that make me sit on the highway for long periods of time...that would suck! Been there, done that. Schools are closing (because they know kids aren't coming to school anyway) and people will be traveling north in droves. Even the hotel rooms are all booked (which I don't need one)

Funny thing that I read a few days ago. "Beware of wild animals", they get all out of sync with their body when it's totally black when it's unexpected and act strangely. They are known to attack people...LOL...go figure. At least we don't have lions and other dangerous animals around here

First time Upstate New York will get a full eclipse in a hundred years. Pretty sure I won't be around the next time there's a full blackout eclipse. I'll take photos and share here

IMO - and I used to argue with my wife (now ex), was that we don't "own" our children other than we're responsible for raising them to respect others, become responsible adults, and to strive to be their best, etc. My argument was always that our kids are "individuals", and they will carve out their own life however they want. We can either embrace their decisions and get to be part of their lives until we die, or we can attempt to run them after they are adults and eventually be no part of their lives

The hardest thing for my wife to grasp, was that our kids - even though she gave birth to them - are "individuals", and trying to live our lives through them will only drive them away. They will make mistakes, just like we did. But at some point, you have to let them go to do their own thing and adults having supporting parents is the most important thing empty-nesters can give their adult children

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Bo Nix Pro Day Passes
March 27, 2024, 11:04:40 AM
I haven't spent a lot of time studying QBs, mainly because I'm inadequate to do so and also because I believe the Giants are going with DJ for at least one more year

But watching that video, Nix seems to have excellent body positioning while throwing the ball and seems very accurate. Of course, it's all staged, so he should look good. Not a real game

However, his stats from last season jump out at me (I haven't bothered to check stats on any of the QBs prior to this). In the 2023 season, he threw for 4,508 yards, 45 TDs, and 3 Int. That's pretty remarkable, even at the college level

Just a heads-up should you give this movie a shot. The funny thing about "Poor Things", when polled to people who had to rate it 1 through 5, it was all 1's or 5's, with 5 wining out about 53-47 over the 1's. It's a love it or hate with nothing really in between

One guy who watched it said he loved it so much he now claims it as his favorite movie of all time. On the other hand, he also said he likes "weird, dark comedy-dramas" and prior to this movie, his favorite of all time was "A Clockwork Orange", which lets off the same kind of vibe IMO
