Quote from: MightyGiants on April 15, 2024, 02:17:05 PMWaller is still an unknown (at least publicly, the Giants may be keeping it quiet for the draft)

I don't know all that's going on but from a fan's point of view this Hamlet-esque stuff is really ticking me off.

Quote from: Ed Vette on April 15, 2024, 10:15:58 AMAs Bill Belichick waits patiently on the sidelines.  :knockONwood:

If Bill's interested, and Daboll implodes, anyone here believe Mara wouldn't give him a call?

Killer may have a point that the Giants need another layer of management to oversee operations.

I don't think so because replacing Daboll with Belichik is just setting up another short tenure HC, because at 71 BB will be a stop-gap.

Quote from: Rosehill Jimmy on April 14, 2024, 11:47:30 PMMaybe I'm mistaken but didn't Slater play a lot of RT while at Northwestern?

The may not want to switch his side, just as the Giants didn't want to switch AT's side.

Quote from: jgrangers2 on April 13, 2024, 09:14:05 AMTo a certain extent, yes. Once Herbert went back to school, they turned their attention to Jones.

Ultimately, you shouldn't be afraid to get your guy if you believe in him. That's how the Chiefs got Mahomes and the Bills got Allen. But you also shouldn't draft a QB just to draft one.

Which is what I fear the Giants will be doing if the draft one this year.

Quote from: londonblue on April 13, 2024, 03:05:20 PMOur worst case is that whoever we pick at 6 does not work out. It is not all that unlikely given Thibodeaux is good but not (yet) great, a double not a home run. Neal is bad (so far). Another mistake gets magnified if the pick is a QB as it will delay hope for at least three more years.

Our best case is whoever we pick justifies their draft slot and has a long career with us including multiple all-pro recognition. If they are a QB it has a multiplier effect but an all-pro at WR or CB still makes us better.

Fingers crossed we hit a home run with whatever pick we make and they help raise our level.

I'm with you.  Best and worse scenarios happen after the draft.  Because when it comes down to it no one knows how any of these guys will pan out.

Quote from: andrew_nyGiants on April 12, 2024, 03:25:53 PMSo you're saying that the Giants drafted DJ just to take a QB, that they really didn't believe in him?

That extends FAR BEYOND Gettlemen and if true (which I'm not buying) is very disturbing.

And with DJ looking like an Eli clone, you have to wonder about Mara's influence.

Quote from: jimc on April 11, 2024, 06:24:07 AMI'd be shocked. I don't believe the FO has the appetite for taking a LT in the first round and trying to convert him to a RT again.

I'm right-handed and I broke my right wrist in January.  So I am in complete agreement about the difficulties of switching an OT from one side to the other, if you know what I mean.  Thank goodness for bidets, but there are no OT bidets for them to fall back on.

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 11, 2024, 03:49:40 PMOne thing that I have repeatedly marveled at is the complexity of people.  Too often, we see people putting them in boxes of good guys and bad guys.  Yet here is a man who murdered two people in cold blood but was more than willing to take time out of his busy life to do something nice for a fan.  It's hard to wrap one's head around the idea that people can be good and bad.

It doesn't seem so strange if we see that both are manifestations of ego.  Bathing in the adulation of kids is ego.  Slaughtering the wife who rejected you and a guy who, in your mind, was in a relationship with her is ego.

The headaches are all well and good, but the reality is that they have finished ahead of the Giants, frequently by significant margins, in 8 of the last ten years.  And have won 12 games the last three years.   Over the last ten years they have clearly been the more competent and competitive franchise.  Jerry and headaches notwithstanding.

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 11, 2024, 02:21:53 PMThis was an article on the Athletic.  The idea is that the Bills trade up with the Giants to land an elite WR prospect to replace Diggs (and perhaps extend their window)

Here is the proposed trade

Bills receive: 2024 first-round pick (No. 6) and 2025 seventh-round pick
Giants receive: 2024 first-round pick (No. 28), 2024 second-round pick (No. 60), 2024 fourth-round pick (No. 128) and 2025 first-round pick

If you were Schoen, would you take this deal?

Quote from: londonblue on April 11, 2024, 07:06:52 AMHe also had a revolving cast either side of him and injury issues. We'd hope to see a significant step forward year two but unless and until it happens we just don't know.

Exactly.  AND it shows what nonsense it is when fans say, 'pick this guy and we'll have an all pro for ten years'.

His extensive search for the real killers never found them. /sarcasm/

Karmic poetic justice that he spent time in prison for armed robbery.

And let's not forget that the role Robert Kardashian played in hiding the bloody clothes thrust him into the public eye and was foundational to the Kardashian's fame that we all have had to endure.  Not as egregious as the double murder, but still . . .

Quote from: katkavage on April 10, 2024, 06:41:16 PMWhen?

2007 and 2011.  Those Superbowls were built on a great defense more than a great QB.  Take away those 2 playoff runs and Eli is an average QB with a .500 winning percentage.  And if scouting QBs is hard enough, scouting a QB that can go on 2 playoff runs that are out of character with the rest of his career is impossible - it is a matter of luck and we got lucky.

Quote from: katkavage on April 10, 2024, 05:10:10 PMIf you are convinced he is your guy, yeah. I agree because the position is worth giving away picks...if it works out. I would easily sacrifice the chance to draft an offensive tackle or receiver in the for round next year if I knew I found my QB for the next decade. That being said, I'm not convinced McCarthy is worth that much because he is who you will get at 4.

You can be convinced he is your guy and he can still turn out to be a bust.

If the reports of $88 million guaranteed for Josh Allen are correct this is stupid comment by Duggan.  Burns has $41 million in guarantees according to OTC.  $88 million, $41 million -- practically the same  /sarcasm/

EDIT:  Well, maybe not.  Spotrac has Burns' guarantee at $87 million.
