Big Blue Huddle / Fix the Offense = Fewer Turnovers
« on: March 24, 2017, 09:59:09 PM »
We all know that the Giants offense underperformed last year, while the defense became one of the best in the league.

There's been a lot of debate about what to do to fix the offense. Upgrade talent on the offensive line? Add more playmakers?

What about just protecting the ball?

From what I've read, the Giants had a negative turnover differential of -2. That stat becomes even more alarming when you consider they were tied for tenth in the league with 25 takeaways. That means they had 27 giveaways, which I believe was 25th in the league. It's amazing an 11-win team could be 25th in the league in giveaways!

I have also read that the Giants gave up 59 points off turnovers. They were already 2nd in the league in points allowed. The defense's performance seems even more remarkable when you consider how many times they were put in a bad position because of a turnover.

So what can the Giants do to address this issue? Personally, I don't think they need an "explosive" offense. I think they need to be able to hold the ball, either through efficiency in the passing game or by running the ball more effectively. What do you guys think?

Matt,  Outstanding insight and knowledge of the "game inside the game".  We appreciate all your hard work!

Do you take requests for film breakdowns?  If so, I'd love to see the best of Landon Collins.

Thx...Cid

Sure Cid, I'll do my best. I can't promise it will be soon, but it's a long offseason and Collins has a lot of highlights to choose from this past season.

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys, I'm very gratified by your kind words.

A post worthy of the rich tradition of trade-down scenarios that have come before it...

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Reports say the Dolphins really want Hankins

I would agree when it comes to 1T guys.  But 3T tackles are supposed to penetrate and be able to rush the passer.  That requires a lot more athleticism.  Pot bellies are acceptable for the run stuffers but not good for 3Ts and OLTs.  How funny that both of ours have that acquired trait?

I guess I have a soft spot for the soft-bodied linemen, Todge. I agree Hankins is a typical 1T somewhat miscast in a 3T role, I think that's why the Dolphins wisely want to pair him with Suh.

On the other hand, one of the best 3Ts of all time, Warren Sapp, was Hankins-esque. Not to mention maybe the best 3T the Giants have had in recent memory, Fred Robbins. You can't always judge a book by its cover...

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Best of Snacks by Matt

Folks, if you haven't looked at Matt's stuff then you don't know what you're missing.  It's like having our own Madden and Gruden rolled into one.  His insight is fantastic, his analysis spot on!  I'd encourage you to take a peek.

Cid

Thanks Cid, you're being too kind! I'm just a regular fan with a little time on his hands this week. Really glad you enjoyed it.

Maybe teams are concerned about his conditioning?  Hankins looked somewhat out of shape last year with noticeable excess body fat.

Hard to imagine that being a barrier given the physiques of other top players at his position.

He would be a monstrosity playing the 1-tech next to Suh. A smart move by the Dolphins, they'll be getting him at a bargain if he signs.

I'm kind of shocked nobody will offer him multiple years. He may be a victim of Snacks just being so darn good that Hankins doesn't get enough credit for his contribution.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: D Harris Still a Giant

I love Harris, I think he's a fantastic special teams player, and under-utilized offensively.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Giants sign Shaun Draughn - RB
« on: March 22, 2017, 08:53:50 AM »
I have a hunch this is more of a special teams-oriented move. Draughn has been a decent kick/punt cover guy, which has allowed him to hang around the league so long. Last year he showed he can contribute on offense a little in a pinch.

We can neither confirm nor deny that the FBI director posts here at the present time.

Let's credit them then.

OK. Is there something else I should be doing other than leaving the NFL logo in the bottom right corner?
