Giants History / Re: Dave Pagan passed away
August 25, 2023, 04:19:14 PM
Dave was a friend and fellow tailgater. Along with Ed and his brother, my son Dan, Tommee and his crew, Brian and sometimes Rich and Jim from Maine we had a great crew. Three of this group has passed away over the last year or so. Never a bad word about anyone. A nice guy and a good friend.

His family had season tickets in the upper deck around the 40-yard line that were handed down to the kids, Dave, his brother Vinny, and his sister Joyce, from his father. My condolences to Cyndy and his family.

Dave and Vinny

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Papa & Banks - Pros

In years past I had to listen to the Pats broadcast team for the final preseason game when they were the home team. If you could believe it they were worse than the Detroit broadcast team.

Once you get out of NY you can see or hear why some of these guys never make it to the big time in NY.

A little of the track, I heard on the radio that The Carolina Panthers Hockey team was going to have one pair of announcers doing both radio and TV. Imagine how bad that is going to sound. If it is like a TV broadcast listening to the radio will be bad because you will need to fill-in the blanks while if it is the opposite, you will have over kill on TV.

Quote from: MightyGiants on August 05, 2023, 04:36:06 PMIt would be a bold move to have 2 rookies at the boundary CB positions

Yes Rich I agree, but it would be nice to eventually have Jackson covering lamb in the slot.

Quote from: MightyGiants on July 25, 2023, 09:58:39 AM* The player has to remain on the reserve/PUP list for at least the first four regular season games (Oct. 3 or 4 this season), which is new this season.

* Once a player leaves the reserve/PUP list, he has up to 21 days to return to the 53-man roster. He can practice with the team until he's taken off the list. If the player still isn't able to play in games after the 21-day span, he'll stay on the reserve/PUP list for the rest of the season.

Rich I think that you mean that he can't practice with the team.

I also thought that at any time during camp he can be taken off of the list however, if they are taken off of the list or are not on the list at the start of camp they can't be added.

I would like to have Darren Waller to discuss music and his great grandfather Fats Waller. Staying on the music theme I would like to have Andrew Thomas who was a music major. To round out the trio I would love to also include Brian Daboll who seems like the kind of guy who would be a fun conversationalist. It would be interesting to see how the coach and players interact. A fourth fill in would be DJ who was a Duke economics major.

Giants History / Re: RIP- Tomeee
June 22, 2023, 12:23:41 PM
This is sad news to say the least. Tomeee lived in Yorktown Heights, NY only a few miles from where I lived in Somers NY. When we had group get togethers we would carpool to the event. I got to know his family.  One of his daughters went to school with my niece. I had a small group, Ed and Linda, Tomeee and his wife, and Rich over to my house for a Sunday Barbeque. I really enjoyed his company at the tailgates before a game.

RIP Tomeee we loved you; you will be missed.

Gale Sayers played 5 injury plagued years and still made the HOF. Bo Jackson was the best pure athlete that I ever saw. I would say between the two of them I would select Jackson.

As for the Giants, it is Tucker Frederickson. Frederickson was a two-way player, a Heisman Trophy runner-up, the first overall pick of the 1965 NFL Draft, and a Pro Bowl fullback with the Giants. In the 1965 draft Ken Willard went second to SF, Dick Butkus went third while Gale Sayers went fourth. He played for 6 seasons before he had to retire due to a knee injury. In college, he averaged 4.4 yards per carry on offense and lead his team in interceptions as a safety on defense.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Schoen on GMFB

The team of GM George Young and HC Bill Parcells was successful enough to win two Super Bowls however, they didn't get along well at all. In fact, Young almost fired Parcells in his first season as head coach and Parcells never forgot it. They were able to put it aside and provide winning football. You don't need to get along to win and make it to the HOF but it sure does help.

Giants History / Re: NFT: RIP JimV
May 03, 2023, 08:39:29 PM
I just saw this. I knew that Jim was sick but didn't know that he passed away. I remember the Ramses Barden bet and the steak that Jim totally enjoyed, and Dave given a wonderful Peter Lorre impersonation. Lenn is right, Jim's favorite Giant was Gifford. Every time One would mention Gifford in a conversation Jim's eyes would light up.

For a 1 PM game we would begin the tailgate at about 9AM. Jim would come down from Maine which meant that he had to get up real early in the morning to get there at about 10 AM. He would bring down Maine Lobsters for the tailgate which we totally enjoyed.

Jim came over from the Patty Traina site when she had to close it down. Has anyone notified her about Jim passing?

Rest in peace Jim, you were truly respected and loved by the members of this Giant community.

Quote from: Rosehill Jimmy on April 29, 2023, 04:46:22 PMLarson was viewed as the "hair apparent" to Ray Wietecha (per Christopher Moltisanti!)

Ray Wietecha what a center. could long snap and was so good at it that he would place the ball with the laces facing forward when the punter or holder caught the ball.

Big Blue Huddle / Minnesota Centers and the Giants
April 29, 2023, 02:58:48 PM
I believe that JMS is the third Center from Minnesota that the Giants have drafted over the years.

The first was Greg Larson who was drafted in the sixth round in 1961 and went on to play 13 seasons for the Giants.

The second was Brian Williams who was drafted 18th overall in the 1989 draft and went on to played until 1999 when an eye injury ended his playing days.

Rich, he made a lot of plays against OSU. This should be a good pick.
