Quote from: BluesCruz on November 29, 2023, 11:58:02 AMFAHGETTABOUT IT!!!  Tommy will face Purdy in the 2024 Super Bowl

Maybe Jones is indeed in Carolina by next September with Kafka and that crazy owner.

Tommy will be unstopable in 2024 with all the new blood Schoen and Daboll bring in post
Danny Dimes.

The Giants should pass a new bylaw- no more Duke QBs should ever be drafted in the future
Maybe he'll have Waller back for GB.

Let's hope these distractions don't get him to lose focus. One day you're a Hero and the next you're a Googootz doing Ooggatz!

Most here had a number in mind that was a good deal for the Giants and Jones, something like 32-35 Mil. I think everyone could have lived with that, but Jones and his agent thought they could squeeze the Giants with a playoff game in the win column and they succeeded and we and the Giants are the losers.
\ How would you feel if Jones were making say 33mil? would we feel as bad now?
On a one year deal? It would have hurt this year's cap but then he would be done. That's essentially the Tag amount.

We've always called them Hero's.

Quote from: T200 on November 29, 2023, 09:43:25 AMSchoen was hamstrung with Jones from the day he agreed to be the GM.

- The previous 'guy' brought in Jones. Schoen had no ties or obligation to pick up the 5th-year option. He didn't, and for good reason. They had already seen the limited success Jones had up to that point, lack of supporting cast noted.

- Daboll and Kafka employed a low-risk passing game and leaned heavily on Saquon to see how Jones would fare. It wasn't spectacular but it showed that, at a minimum, Jones was a capable game manager. After a great showing in his first playoff game, Jones backed the Giants into a corner.

- Jones gets paid and starts the season playing worse than he ever has. And then the injuries.

Until Jones and Barkley are off this team, the Giants will continue to suffer the decisions made by Mara/Gettleman. Schoen needs to cut ties as soon as possible. And it sucks because Barkley and Jones are genuinely good guys who got drafted by the wrong guy.
Barkley might already have that Gold Jacket if he was drafted by the Eagles.

Quote from: T200 on November 29, 2023, 09:52:34 AMI'm with you, Ed. Two strong personalities are bound to butt heads here and there but there are no bruised egos or hurt feelings there. There's enough mutual respect there to be able to hash things out and get back to work.
Sure, look at how many times Rich and I go at it, but we both know it's for the sake of the site and it doesn't kill the relationship.

The guys have been pushing this narrative all week. I do agree that there was something there. Two strong personalities at a time when Wink's Defense went off track and a discussion was warranted. Then the next two weeks, they Ball Out. Daboll is the boss and Wink has to respect that.

If there was any push back from Wink, Daboll won't let it affect what's best for the team. He is not an insecure man.

Losing Wink would hurt the team. I doubt he's going anywhere unless it's for a HC position and he's certainly not getting fired in season.

Additionally, the players support him even over one of their own Locker Room Jackass (in Wiki, it's McKinney's face).

The foundation is there and Daboll brought him in.

Quote from: kartanoman on November 29, 2023, 09:17:58 AMI wish folks would stop comparing DeVito to Purdy from the standpoint of production metrics. Purdy is gifted with a wealth of offensive talent around him and an offensive strategy which plays to his strengths while mitigating his weaknesses. DeVito, on the other hand, is a survivor in a hostile environment of weaker and injured talent, having to endure physical punishment every week and fighting tooth and nail to make plays. In that midst, he has won over his teammates, coaches and fans. But the Giants are not remotely in the 49ers' class.

We are going to learn about Brock Purdy this coming weekend when the long awaited rematch with the Iggles takes place. This is the preview of the NFC Championship Game and must-see TV this weekend. Substitute Purdy with DeVito and tell me the 49ers have a chance with the cutlet guy. Who knows, but we'll find out, once and for all, if the 49ers are for real with Mr. Irrelevant.

Peace!
Eh! Watzamatta U???

Quote from: Bob In PA on November 29, 2023, 09:14:59 AMJaime: I agree.

As of yet, there's no clear verdict on DeVito and I don't think Giants will play Tyrod (no upside due to age).

If DeVito should happen to beat the Eagles once (and he has two chances) all heck will break loose.

Eh! Ya better believe it!

Quote from: T200 on November 29, 2023, 08:23:50 AMThey better enjoy these last few games together. This is Barkley's last season unless he comes down from his lofty contract goals.
That's one of reasons he loves Tommy. He suddenly becomes an all purpose RB.

Quote from: killarich on November 29, 2023, 06:12:49 AMAlso a fan of Jones, I think he has the arm and tools to be at least GOOD

but 2 things happened... Torn ACL .... his biggest strength was his legs.... you take that from him and hes forced to stay in the pocket..... which leads to my biggest gripes.... hes obviously shellshocked from the constant hits...... As well as his biggest weakness to me which is obvious and I cant defend anymore which his refusal to throw the ball down the field..... Devito to this point seems nowhere near as talented as Jones is when Jones is having a good game.... But Tommy (Danny) Devito gets the ball down field and he is getting killed just like Jones was...

Jones mentally is borderline done....idk if hes scared to turn it over but the dinks and dunks started to become hard to defend especially now.... and if you ever notice his feet ..he does those short fast choppy steps in the pocket ... hes shellshocked and its obvious

If hes back next year I wont be mad and I'll root for him like I always have been.... but hes got to look down field

But I also dont know if we should draft any of the QB's not Name Caleb or Maye... but im no expert thats just me

Jones first year Pat Shurmur let him rip with a one read offense and he made great throws downfield. The problem was that he lacked pocket awareness and his gun slinger mentality led to some interceptions. He had a lot of turnovers but the talent was clearly there and he didn't even run much but he did have two TDs with his legs. His Y/C was high and his Y/A was good. He missed a few games and if healthy he could have been close to 4000 passing yards.

In comes JG who tries to teach him to read the field with a dumbed down Offense. He struggled behind a bad Oline and a poor Receiver Corp, and JG took the blame. In his second year in the system his competition percentage improved and was on track for 3800 yards but he got hurt again and missed six games.

In comes Daboll whose priority was to cut down on the turnovers with ball security, a Run based Offense and a short game. He did well but he was programmed not to take chances the past three years.

Then we have year four with the same shitty Oline, fear of taking chances and turnovers and the league figures out Kafka, Daboll and Jones. They make him run more to extend drives and he gets hurt again and again.

This is how you break a QB. Shurmur knew his limitations and if he had stayed in that system and worked through his difficulties, he may have become a good System QB. I don't know if DJ can be fixed. Perhaps in the right situation. The problem is that Schoen would have to be a gambler to let him play through his contract.
