The Front Porch / Re: The Sopranos turn 25
January 11, 2024, 12:05:09 PM

I used to listen to Mike and the Mad Dog on our local radio WFAN while I was working. When any new season of the Sopranos started, all they talked about every week, instead of sports, was the new episode. I kind of knew what was going to happen before I ever watched. So many people discussed every episode it was unbelievable. They analyzed everything from what Tony said to who, what he wanted 'his crew' to do, Junior, and who was due to get whacked.

It was a fun ride and basically revolutionized what we watched on TV from then on.

Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on January 10, 2024, 08:07:00 PMHard to play it anymore since it brings back so many memories. I get too sentimental and regret my life's decisions. My wife and I were so in love at that time. She looked at me with adoring eyes, and I right back. We had 4 kids back to back to back and money was tight. Then I started climbing the corporate ladder and started putting in 70 hour work weeks combined with travel to the far east, Europe, practically every major city in America, etc. We grew apart and my work was my life and we grew apart as she started her education ending up as a Nurse Practitioner, and me a retired old coot. I'll regret if for the rest of my life. Now my kids are grown and half my grandkids are grown...all the weddings, the funerals, the table games, the laughs, the hard times...are but a memory that I hang on to  :(

The good old days

Christmas present from my kids a couple weeks ago...one of my kids and one of my grandchildren (a little glare on them from the glass in the picture frames. Unfortunately, one of my grandkids and great grandson weren't in the picture. I'll post a separate one of them

My kids now (I lost my oldest son right after his 20th birthday...devastating). 4-year captain of the lacrosse team, 2-yr captain of the football team, and a loving kid with a huge heart and big ambitions

GREAT, GREAT Pix Ric.

We also get sentimental around the end of the year. We usually start by looking over our wedding pix, then moving on to when our kids were born, and then on to their Bar Mitzvah stuff. In fact, while looking this last time, I just couldn't believe I was so thin, my darling wife so young and gorgeous, and me with a full head of brown hair. Oh, the good old days. I don't have any of these pix on my computer so it is hard to post any. I'll see if I can scan some and give you a peek ar us in the younger days.

Quote from: londonblue on January 11, 2024, 10:09:42 AMMy only question is who is the 4th head on the modern football Mount Rushmore alongside LT, Brady and Bill?

You have a GOAT defensive player
A GOAT QB
A GOAT HC
For me, it would be Jerry Rice, the GOAT WR.

It will be funny and strange seeing him wearing a different color raggedy sweatshirt.  =))  =))  =))

The Front Porch / The Sopranos turn 25

I never watched The Sopranos when it came out as I never had HBO. I was able to get the CDs/DVDs from our library and was able to watch them maybe 4-5 months after it was aired so I was always a huge fan.

What a gigantic show and always in the top 3-5 greatest TV shows ever.

When I watched the finale, I didn't know about the so-called 'controversy' about the ending, so I thought WTF happened, my screen went blank at the pivotal moment, only to realize that was it and the rest was left to one's imagination.

Just a terrific cast and it's hard to believe it has been 25 years since we watched. Funny, I tried to watch it again when it was shown on regular TV but it had so many edits, that it was impossible to really get the feel for the show and its amazing cast of characters.

I know a reference was made about The Sopranos on a thread on the main board, so it prompted me to relook at some of its greatest episodes.

For fans, what was your best episode?

Mine was when Christopher and Pauley were out in the woods, trying to kill the Russian and they get lost.
(Pine Barrens)
And, to me the most gut-wrenching was the killing of Adriana.

Ric

You are asking a lot here. Myself, I was and still am a fan of what was called Doo-Wop music, mostly from the late 50s into the pre-Beatle '60s. I still listen to this type of music mostly, but I have others.
If you say the 60s you are going from this type of music, Doo-wop then incorporating every song from the Beatles, and really into Woodstock,  which really makes it hard. I was never a fan of what was known as hard rock, heavy metal, and all those types of music, so my favs would not get to that type of music.

I was just a huge fan of the Beatles and I still feel their Sgt Pepper Album was and still is the best album ever made, so if I had to take a true #1 song, it would be 'Day in the Life'

That said I would like honorable mention to

Born To Be Wild-- Steppenwolf
House of the Rising Sun--The Animals
Whiter Shade of Pale--Procal Harem
The Boxer--Simon and Garfunkel
Pretty Woman--The GREAT Roy Orbison
Can't Help Falling In Love--Elvis
Stand By Me--Ben E King
One of my all-time greatest--The Worst That Can Happen by Johhny Maestro and the Brooklyn Bridge

Unchained Melody--The Righteous Brothers

Theme from the Good, The Bad and The Ugly
Anything by the Early Bob Dylan
Anything b Johhny Cash

Wink hasn't officially quit and he hasn't officially been fired, so as of now, he is still our DC.
What happens if he decides he wants to stay, then that would leave Dabill no choice but to dire him and would be free to go where ever he wants.
It's a game of chicken

 Nothing goes on forever.

Look what the Giants did to Coughlin after he won us 2 Super Bowls.

Win and you are the hero, lose and you are the goat and not the GOAT as we know it.

As much as I disliked Carroll, I respect the work he did in Seattle and should have had that 2nd ring.

Your Los Angeles Chargers are wasting no time with the NFL season now over, at least for them. Los Angeles missed the playoffs with a paltry 5-12 finish, and their offseason has now begun.

The franchise will need to find a new head coach and general manager this offseason, and they've already started looking around. The team has been active in requesting interviews for the two open spots, and we can add another name to the list.

The Chargers have put in a request to interview New York Giants assistant general manager Brandon Brown for their open general manager job. He will also be interviewing with the Carolina Panthers as well.

Quote from: Fletch on January 10, 2024, 07:45:43 AMMy opinion: Front Porch should be eliminated and Big Blue Huddle should contain both mixed non football and football talk. Makes for more interesting reading / no one goes to the front porch enough to make it worth posting there.

Sorry, you feel this way. We, who do go to the Front Porch, all seem to love it. Maybe you should try it sometime, we can use a few more participants. But, if not, I am completely happy conversing with those who choose to be there. We have a small, but quite intelligent group who share their views on many things.

Again, try it before knocking it.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Are we really THAT bad?
January 10, 2024, 11:14:51 AM

I never said we were the ascending team, just I think we are a better team than what we showed all season. Again, please don't misunderstand what I am saying--we sure aren't a good team, I just think we do have some talent and with the right QB and a new scheme of things, we could be a very competitive team next year. We have people in positions that could make us competitive.
Yes, you are what your record says you are, but last year, we seemed to get all the bounces and we won more than we lost. This year many of those bounces went against us and we lost more than we won. We could just as easily be 8-9 maybe even 9-8. AND, we did lose our starting QB (not that that would have helped, but losing our best OLman that did hurt.

I agree Ric. Just watching the reactions of some of the younger children is great.
