Big Blue Huddle / Offense or defense
September 05, 2023, 08:03:55 PM

Who do you think will carry the Giants this season, the offense or the defense?

Most of the people I talk to say the defense, but the offense has to put up at least 24 points per game. The defense will be good, maybe even very good, but they need rest and if the offense sputters along as we have seen in the past, it will take its toll. Give the defense some time on the sidelines and they will carry this team this season.

My defensive MVP--if Wink allows him to play, Simmons can dominate.

Big Blue Huddle / NFT--Happy Labor Day Weekend
September 03, 2023, 12:09:02 PM
Since I don't 'Labor' anymore, but many others still do, I just wanted to wish everyone a happy and SAFE Labor Day Weekend. (if that isn't an oxymoron).
Enjoy whatever you choose to do, but do it safely and come back to us safe, sound, and ready for football.

Big Blue Huddle / What do you expect from the 2023 Giants?
September 02, 2023, 12:56:55 PM
Hi everyone. I took a break from football and this site for several months to sort of clear my head (among other things). But now, as the new season is approaching, it's time to get back to football and my Giants friends on BBH.

So what do people expect of the Giants for 2023?

Are we going to build on last year and maybe make a true run, deep into the playoffs?

Is this going to be a growing year, where we might take a step back before really moving up to a possible run at a championship?

Do we have enough talent to be a legitimate threat?

Myself, I expect good to better play from a team that seems more talented than last year's team, but I really feel many are expecting a bit too much from the Giants this year. I can see us taking a step back, learning, and then, with another good draft really making a run. I just do not see us as good as the Eagles right now. But, like past championship teams, they also took a step back before making a true run.

What do you think?

Big Blue Huddle / Parris Campbell??
March 04, 2023, 07:21:21 PM

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/new-york-giants-could-target-dynamic-low-cost-wr-in-free-agency/ar-AA18cZhI?ocid=msedgntp&cvid=ada2dceeb48d4fa2f105886a42d7a2d3&ei=9

Is this guy legit and a decent WR to go after>

Parris Campbell is 25 years old and coming off the best season of his career. In 2022, Campbell set new career highs across the board, receiving 91 targets and hauling in 63 receptions for 623 yards and three touchdowns.

And he should be reasonably cheap.

Big Blue Huddle / Brandon Cooks
March 01, 2023, 05:19:45 PM

Would you do a mid-round draft pick for Cooks?

According to Mike Fisher, the Texans are shipping him around. He has been a reliable Wr for several years and without wealth of mid-round picks, might a deal get done if the Giants liked him?

A pretty good analysis of all the Giant's free agents and what might be done with them

The franchise number for a DT is something like 18 mil, so this isn't going to come cheap. Do we have money for this also and be a player in FA.

BTW, loved the little clip of Dextor all miked up.

Hey, if Pollard is a FA, why not Pollard to the Giants?

Big Blue Huddle / Do we draft a QB?
February 27, 2023, 02:36:02 PM

Especially if we have to franchise Daniel Jones and a decent enough QB is available when we pick, do we draft him?
There have been several reports that the Giants might be interested in Tennessee QB Hendon Hooker who has a decent enough chance of being there when the Giants pick. If he is there do we draft him, or any other decent enough QB? If Jones is able to sign a legit contract it would probably be in our best interest especially financially to stay with Jones, but if we have to franchise him, that opens up a whole new ball game to possibilities.

Big Blue Huddle / Giants Led the League in ACL injuries
February 26, 2023, 01:17:17 PM

TWO years in a row.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/giants-led-the-league-in-this-injury-related-stat/ar-AA17WUOq?ocid=hpmsn&cvid=4e46f401d68445709f0fb05463be6b93

Yet while the Giants weren't the runaway leaders in overall injuries last year—they finished sixth per ManGamesLost.com with 261 instances of players having missed games due to injury or illness—one stat where the Giants did lead the league is in the number of ACL injuries according to the ACL Recovery Club.

The Front Porch / Cutting the Cord
February 25, 2023, 12:52:39 PM

Either slap me on the back or kick me in the butt, we have finally decided to cut the cord from Cable. We have been a subscriber of Optimum for maybe 15 years. Overall we were satisfied with their service (some good and some bad) but each year the price keeps going up and up, basically nickeling and diming us to death. I have called several times over the years and always seemed to get put into some other program that sort of kept my cost in the range we could afford, but the other day I got almost another $30 increase on my bill and that was it for me.
I called and asked for some other deal they could find. I explained we are high seniors, I am a USAF veteran and we are living on a basically fixed income which this new increase, we simply feel is well overpriced considering what else is out there. They seemingly couldn't care less.

So I called Verizon FIOS for my internet for $50 per month. We also have had our landline phone for God knows how long and my wife prefers that, so we signed up with one of those internet phone servers for $10 per month, and as soon as they take my cable boxes out we will sign up with the FUBU TV, as with a certain AMEX card we have we can save $30 per month for 4 months with this service. They offer all the local channels and about 130 other channels including most of what we do watch. We have HBO MAX for a year, Amazon Prime, and HULU for a year, and we have Peacock and Paramount + for a few months. With the savings, I will re-up our subscription to Netflix and we should be all set as far as what to watch.
I know our regular viewing habits will have to change but we will manage.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Big Blue Huddle / Daniel Jones Free Agent
February 24, 2023, 09:04:51 PM

 Discussing this with some friends

What if we let Daniel Jones test the FA market? Isn't there a tag or rule that would allow a player to the FA market and we have the right to match any offer?
If so, that might be a win-win for the Giants in the way, they can really assess if he is worth 45 million. Do you really think any team out there is going to pay him 45 million, when most of the league really doesn't consider him at that level?
What would happen if we let him test the market and he found that his value is no where near what his new agent is telling him he is worth?
Then if he would get an offer, we have the right to match it.

Is this a possible scenario?

I know we could care less about what's happening with the Eagles, but maybe we should. They face a huge turnover this offseason and you never know who will become a free agent.

The reports says they will use the franchise tag on safety CJ Gardner-Johnson

the Giants are up 24 percent from last year and are currently valued at $6 billion.

They are ranked fourth overall behind the Dallas Cowboys ($8 billion), the New England Patriots ($6.4 billion), and the Los Angeles Rams ($6.2 billion).

Big Blue Huddle / Out of the big 3 who would you keep?
February 20, 2023, 07:36:13 PM

As of now, the Giants have 3 major players to sign, Jones, Barkley, and Lawrence. If we cannot sign Jones to a sort of cap-friendly contract, it would seem highly unlikely we can keep all 3 players. so who do we keep and who do we let go?

If we franchise Jones, that gets 32Mil away from the 46+ mil that we have for Free
Agency, so how would we ever sign Barkle y and Lawrence and then have anything left over to try and improve the team?

As of now it really doesn't look like Jones is willing to negotiate any fair price and if we franchise Jones, for me, the guy out would be Barkley as we simply cannot let Lawrence go anywhere.

So might it be Jones/Lawrence---Jones/Brakely-------Barkley/Lawrence??

I know this sure isn't about what or how we feel, but in my own opinion, he is just so lucky to be alive, why press your luck? If it were me, and I survived an ordeal like that, no matter what any doctor told me, I would find a new way to make a living rather than take any chance that this could ever happen again.

Just curious as to how others think on this?

Big Blue Huddle / Justin Pugh back to the Giants?

Could this happen???

He is scheduled to become a FA and some think he might want to return to NY.

Would he be worth another look?

Big Blue Huddle / Zack Wilson
February 04, 2023, 02:04:05 PM

Does anyone think Zack Wilson might be a viable option for the Giants if things do not work out with Jones? I know all the horrible stories about him but he was a #2 pick and we might have the best 2 guys Daboll and Kafka around who could make him a decent QB. He has suffered in Jets land as they just don't have the right guys to help him. He could come very cheap as the Jets are certainly not going to use him except maybe as a backup.

Remember, several other QBs struggled until they got the right guys to reach them, as the Jets are just a garbage dump for any new QB.

Anyway, just asking

Big Blue Huddle / Do the new hirings help the Giants?
February 01, 2023, 01:04:32 PM

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/how-hirings-of-sean-payton-denver-demeco-ryans-houston-impact-the-giants/ar-AA16XQOR?ocid=msedgntp&cvid=a6a34b6f350e400b9d9369b9bb43730f

Do the new hirings of Sean Peyton in Denver and Demeco Ryans in Housten help the Giants in keeping their staff together?

It sure eliminates two very distinct possibilities but Indy is still in play.

Overall, this has to be a positive for our staff.

The Front Porch / #1 songs for every year
February 01, 2023, 12:46:10 PM

A friend sent me an email with a link to the #1 songs for every year since 1940. Myself, I remember most until a certain period, and then I know nothing but it was great to look at this list

https://www.insider.com/best-songs-every-year-2017-8

This then got me thinking about other songs from each year so I googled it and came up with this from Billboard, every year from 1958, and lists of basically every top song from that year.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Billboard_number-one_singles

As I said, I am a complete dummy once we get to the 'modern' era as I basically don't like that type of music and more often than not listened to oldies stations.

But enjoy the memories.

The Front Porch / Auto maintenance advice
January 31, 2023, 05:06:36 PM

I have a question to throw out here.

My wife's car, an 'older' PT Cruiser with about 135000 miles. She drives this thing less than 2000 miles a year and basically always local. It does get on the highway once in a while when I take it out for a spin.

It has been about a year since we changed the oil and I am wondering if, because we only put less than 2000 miles on it, we need to change it again? I know good maintenance would say we should, but I was really curious if it needed to be done automatically, even though limited miles are put on the car.

https://gmenhq.com/2023/01/28/bill-parcells-ny-giants-nfc-east-cowboys-eagles/

You know, this guy is pretty smart and what he says, things we already know, are just too true.

"I thought they had a great year," Parcells wrote about the Giants via The 33rd Team. "They have some decisions to make with their quarterback Daniel Jones, and their running back Saquon Barkley. They'll try to hold onto those guys and build from there. But the one thing I'll say about the Giants on the negative side is they haven't beaten the heavyweights in their division. They lost to Dallas twice, and they lost to Philadelphia three times. So, they've got to get a better foothold in their own division if they expect improvement next year."

Big Blue Huddle / Who plays Center?
January 30, 2023, 01:27:18 PM

While we all have glaring needs for the Giants and there is a growing list, as I was watching the games yesterday, it sure got me thinking about the position of Center on all the teams playing and how this position may well be the key to a real winning team.
I thought back to our championship teams with Sean O'Hara leading the way and then further back to Bart Oates. Center may well be the key position on the OL and we haven't had a key guy in there in ages.

So if we are going to upgrade positions I vote for a guy who can play Center and play it well enough to be a constant there for years to come--not this guy a year crap we have been dealing with.

Lok at the team splaying yesterday and each had basically an all-pro at center to anchor that line. Yes, we need help at a mirade of positions, but a good center may be key to the OL for years to come.

The Front Porch / Movie Quotes
January 30, 2023, 12:01:40 PM

Myself and Jim have done this for several years now but not in quite a while so here's the deal

Here are several 'almost famous', to pretty famous, and if you ever watched movies you have to know--lines from movies, and try and identify them.

1----"You may call me Captain"

2---"Who's On First " (Yeah you know the routine but what movie was it in first?

3--- "Never apologize, mister. It's a sign of weakness."

4----"A boy's best friend is his mother."

5----"I don't have to tell you the story. You all know it. Only two kinds of people are gonna stay on this beach: those that are already dead and those that are gonna die. Now get off your butts. You guys are the Fighting 29th."

6----"They're heeeeere."

7---"I guess you guys aren't ready for that yet, but your kids are gonna love it."

8--- "Game over, man."

9---"As long as you're talking, you're not listening

10---"It's not a man purse. It's called a satchel. Indiana Jones wears one."
