Big Blue Huddle / Re: Top 30 Visit update

I've been saying for years that the Giants should draft more players out of the University of British Columbia. Glad to see it finally happening.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on April 11, 2024, 04:54:09 PMA'Shawn Robinson and Austin Johnson are the first two that come to mind. Not sure who else.

That's kinda the point. You and I would remember more if there were. When you have only $35 million in cap space and you want to give big money to Saquon, Jones and Lawrence you're probably going to have to have 30 players making the vet minimum.

FWIW he was never as good as Tippman. If you're using Tippman to judge JMS you're setting him up for failure. Tippman is a future pro bowler and JMS is going to be a good NFL starter. If we picked him over Tippman I'd be pissed but the Jets robbed us of that chance.

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 11, 2024, 02:21:53 PMThis was an article on the Athletic.  The idea is that the Bills trade up with the Giants to land an elite WR prospect to replace Diggs (and perhaps extend their window)

Here is the proposed trade

Bills receive: 2024 first-round pick (No. 6) and 2025 seventh-round pick
Giants receive: 2024 first-round pick (No. 28), 2024 second-round pick (No. 60), 2024 fourth-round pick (No. 128) and 2025 first-round pick

If you were Schoen, would you take this deal?

Yes but only if all of the quarterbacks we covet are gone by the 6th pick, and we can use some of that capital to move back into the top 15 and still retain next years first round pick.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on April 11, 2024, 04:45:04 PMWe paid A'Shawn Robinson well more than the veteran minimum, and people seemed upbeat on that signing.

He stunk and is now gone.

How many above the vet minimum depth pieces have we been able to sign the last five years?

Quote from: Philosophers on April 11, 2024, 02:20:04 PMWhen he was with the 49ers at end of his career he walked off the field at old Giants Stadium.  My mom whistled over for him to come over to get his autograph for a young kid sitting with us at the game.  He never hesitated.  Spoke to the kid too.  He loved being a celebrity and interacting with fans.

He also loved to violently abuse his wife. Nothing he did in his life prior to or after committing his double homicide did anything to balance out his evil actions. He got away with it and I can't hide the fact that I wish the comedic abuse he suffered in the naked gun movies wasn't real.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on April 11, 2024, 04:04:24 PMI'm not saying this guy will be bad, but we have not done a good job at all with these veteran "depth" D line signings over the years. Both under Schoen and Gettleman. They have pretty much all been somewhere between underwhelming and terrible.

Perhaps it's because we've been largely forced to resort to fill out our depth with guys signed to the veteran minimum because of Gettleman's abysmal cap management.

Quote from: londonblue on April 11, 2024, 03:23:07 PMHe did get injured last year but is still a solid guy when fit. It is just the fit I struggle with. We have a lot of massive humans at DT. At 6'2" 307 Nacho is the 'dwarf' with everyone else 325+.

How many guys currently on the roster, other than Dex, have a similar number of starts or games played at NT? The answer is none, and at 350 pounds even if he stays healthy all year long he's going to need rest during the games. Are we really questiong spending the vet minimum to get a quality backup to our most important defensive player?

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 11, 2024, 03:11:49 PMThe man is currently 31 and a half years old.  That is around the age those very large men start to break down.  I am frankly puzzled as to the purpose of this signing with respect to the points you raised as well.

What happens, god forbid, if big Dex gets hurt and misses significant time?

Really nice depth piece. Can't have enough quality on your defensive line. Kudos to Schoen in finding a dude with starting experience and getting him for the vet minimum.

I just brought a brand new tv, I'd hate to have to replace it after a month.

Winning meaningless games late in the season killed our chances of getting one of the top 3 quarterbacks.

Quote from: Ed Vette on April 08, 2024, 02:42:00 PMThank you Mr. 3.8 YPC and one TD every 3 games. It's too bad this provocative analysis didn't come out weeks ago. It would have saved everyone a lot of time and trouble. If anyone he should know best how to evaluate a JAG...

Come on Ed you should be better than that. He was a long time player in the NFL, which puts him in the top half of less than one percent of all people to ever play the game. Only in the American sports scene can someone look at someone that accomplished in his field and imply that he's a bum.

Quote from: londonblue on April 08, 2024, 02:40:01 PMEvery year QBs get talked up and talked down by talking heads in the run up to the draft. There is very little correlation between the consensus of commentary pre-draft and subsequent success or failure in the NFL. As a fullback Hoge spent much of his career with his ass facing the QB. Let us leave it there.

I think you meant facing the quarterbacks ass as the fullback lines up behind the quarterback. Further than that who cares? If the standard for having an opinion on a quarterback is to have been a quarterback in the NFL none of the current GM's wouldn't qualify neither would 90% of the current head coaches including Andy Reid. Hodge isn't alone in thinking Maye has bust written all over him. There is a former NFL quarterback who has done a break down of Maye on YouTube who pointed out serious flaws in his game that might make it difficult for him to have success.

Quote from: uconnjack8 on April 05, 2024, 09:44:02 AMI think the take is a bit off.  Assuming the rest of the picks after Nelson were the same do you think this team would be better off now?  Would DeAndre Baker have been better with Nelson on the team?  Or Toney?

What does Toney or Baker have to do with the fact that our team would have been better offensively if it had a future hall of famer at guard than an injury prone running back who never had holes to hit. Not to mention it would have been more helpful to Jones development to have two stud offensive lineman as opposed to one.
