Quote from: GloryDays on Today at 12:05:58 PMThere are a bunch of Receivers still available, like McConkey (I can't believe no one took him yet!) that have a pretty high floor and much more upside than Slayton. The only reason they would consider that is if they are eying a different position and they think that player should be there at 47.

You're missing the point. Other the JuJu Smith Schuster they have no starting caliber receivers in that room. The draft is so deep at receiver that there will still be a good receiver available at 47. If they make this trade and draft a receiver at 47 they can give Maye three guys to work with. If they don't they won't. Hopefully teams are learning from the Giants that it's a fools errand to draft a quarterback in the top ten and then deny him having a group of solid receivers to work with. Tell me how the Pats can end up with three solid receivers for Maye?

Quote from: Stringer Bell on Today at 11:41:04 AMYou'd be lucky to get a 7th rounder for Slayton. Pats would never make this trade.

Look at the Patriots receiver room and tell me that they would have zero interest in a guy who managed to put up 770 yards and four touchdowns while being targeted by guys like DeVito and Taylor. He isn't nearly as bad as your post implies he is. They also would get pick 47 and there will still be good receivers available if they want to continue to add to that group.

Quote from: uconnjack8 on Today at 11:16:13 AMI like Powers-Johnson but do the Giants see IOL as a position of need?

My whole premise is that you want to build the offense to the point that you can go all in on a quarterback in 2025 and have the pieces around him to maximize his chances of success. The starting line currently looks like Thomas-Runyan-JMS-Eluemuno—Neal. After that we have no quality depth and Neal has been awful. If Neal doesn't improve quickly I could see the Giants benching him and kicking Eluemuno outside and opening a need for someone who is better than Ezudu at guard.

I understand in doing that you lose the chance to draft a starting corner but you hope that between Thibs, Dex, Burns and Okereke that you can create enough pressure to protect Banks, Flott and Hawkins. Not a perfect solution but at the end of the day there are no silver bullets available.

Quote from: jgrangers2 on Today at 11:21:09 AMI would make this trade in a heartbeat, but the Patriots never would. You'd have to add more. There's just way too much wide receiver talent left in this class for the Pats to move back 13 spots just to get a non-elite receiver who is due for a payday.

That's true but if they stay at pick 34 there is no guarantee that he will turn into a solid pro and with this trade they get a good receiver who will be good day one and they will have pick 47 to add a lineman or running back to give Maye an even better shot of succeeding. If we have to trade our fourth round pick in return for the Pats fifth round pick to sweeten the pot I won't complain.

The Patriots receiver room is bad and Slayton is a solid pro who can start day one for them. Having just used the 3rd pick overall on a quarterback they need to get him veteran help now not next year.

Slayton on the other hand has no future in NY beyond this season so there's a fit both ways and there are a two really good players Kool Aid McKinstry and Jackson Powers-Johnson who play positions of need who won't last to 47.

Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on Today at 10:52:47 AMIt's going to be interesting because Schoen is not afraid to move around the chess board. If there's a player he really wants, he'll trade up and if he sees that there isn't great value, he's liable to trade down and add some draft stock

I believe there are a few players left on the board that Schoen craves, and he's a good enough poker player to get what he wants. For me, I'd trade up to get OG Jackson Powers-Johnson who I believe is a better guard than Graham Barton who went in the first. JPJ manhandled the best pass rushers that the Senior Bowl could throw at him. He DOMINATED them over and over. I'm still a little shocked he's still on the board

If the Giants stand pat again, I'd be happy with the best CB (Max Melton, Cooper DeJean [although he's more of a nickel back], Mike Sanistrail??), or a DT, someone like Kris Jenkins, or Braden Fiske

And I'd do my happy dance if they drafted LB Payton Wilson, who I think is the most exciting defensive player in the entire draft

Wilson is a fun player to watch but he's torn his ACL twice and because of that I wouldn't use a pick on him before the 5th round. The last thing we need as fans is a player who oozes potential but is always hurt.

This team still has a ways to go to get back to where we want to be but three years ago the only Giant you could point to and say that he has pro bowl/all pro potential was Barkley. At that point Lawrence was still a bit of a disappointment.

Today is a completely different story.  We have guys like Thomas, Okereke, Lawrence, Burns and Thibs who are at that level or are on the cusp of being in that discussion. Then we have several young guys (Nabers, Hyatt and Banks) who have the physical tools to develop into outstanding NFL players but the school is still out on. Now if we can only find a quarterback....

The point of this post is that I understand why some posters feel lost and frustrated that we aren't improving but we are. The level of talent on the roster is the best it's been in close to a decade. It isn't being felt yet due to poor quarterback play or age but you can't deny that we've accumulated some really nice pieces.

Quote from: gregf on April 25, 2024, 11:05:42 PMCB, RB, and safety are in play. Personally,  I hope the next 2 picks build the trenches at guard and DT.

IMHO there are three very good running ba is in this draft. I know people say you can find a starter in the 4th round but if the goal is to build an offense this year so that who ever they draft next year can transition smoothly than you can't discount a running back.  Corum, Benson and Brooks are going to be good backs for the next 6 or 7 years.

Quote from: AZGiantFan on April 25, 2024, 10:22:09 PMIf the line proves adequate (by which I mean average) it will finally give DJ his first NFL-caliber offensive line since he got to the NFL.  If that happens and they get a modicum of health I think top ten is not out of the question.

Don't think top 10 is realistic, but top 15 is.

Quote from: Trench on April 25, 2024, 10:26:48 PMDon't forget - Broncos have our old friend Sills

Just goes to show how bad their receiver room is.

We have needs at guard, running back, corner, defensive tackle and safety. Who do you guys want? 47 might be too early for running back as you can usually find a good one in the third round or later. At guard I could see a reluctance to keep throwing first and second round picks at the problem. My guess would be corner or defensive tackle.

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 25, 2024, 10:07:30 PMI think the Broncos and Bo could be a good fit and successful

Their skill position players were worse than ours last year and they didn't get better so far this offseason. Their line should be solid though, so at least he won't be running for his life every week.

If history is any guide only one or two will really hit. Looking at the situation I'd say the Bears have really set Williams up well. The rest are going to struggle for a couple years.

Quote from: Gmo11 on April 25, 2024, 09:49:52 PMThey'll find something.  They always do.

This is silly. I have been 100% on the Jones isn't it bandwagon for two years and love the Nabers pick. There were several services that had Nabers in the top three and one had him as the best player in the draft. I know we have to move on from Jones, but if we can fix the line the next quarterback is gonna have some tools to work with. We were never going to get the rebuilding done this offseason.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on April 25, 2024, 09:31:50 PMAll three have significantly more flaws than the prospects that were taken 1-3. They would have likely been qbs 7, 8, 9 in this draft. Will they go 1st next year possibly but the talent is nowhere near the guys that came out this year unless they take significant steps.

lol. No one, and I mean no one in the world had Daniels going second overall in this draft, this time last year. Too skinny, processed too slowly, struggled with mechanics. A year later everyone forgets about it, and no one is really talking about how much Maye regressed this year without Phil Longo calling plays for him. There will be at least two quarterbacks with top 10 grades next year. If I'm wrong this time next year I'll have no problem admitting I was wrong.
