Big Blue Huddle / When can we expect Nabers to e...
Last post by kingm56 - Today at 09:49:55 AM
The short answer is quickly, or never.

A few years ago, I ran a statistical analysis of every skilled position; my intent was to determine when you could expect a player, at a given position, to emerge.  My thesis was the notion it takes 3-to-5 years to judge a player is outdated and inaccurate.  During that effort, I realized WRs, more than any other skilled position, emerge quickly and have a fairly predictable output..  The data suggest Nabers will adapt quickly, or not at all.  Below is list of all the 1st rd WR(s) drafted between 2016 and 2021; as I'm sure you'll note, they produce quickly and remain statistically consistent, unless impacted by injuries and/or suspension. In lieu of a boring analysis, here are two general observations.

1.   The preponderance of 1st Round WRs show their abilities in their rookie seasons
2.   100% of 1st Round WRs showcase their abilities by year 2, or not at all.
a.   At this point, they're production is fairly steady

Quote from: Bob In PA on Today at 08:01:04 AMTonka: Completely agree, but this year IMO they have the answer. Both Robinson and Nabers can contribute in the run-game, and Singletary is a proven NFL-caliber RB. Gray will no longer be a rookie and maybe he's ready to contribute. I think to address your point directly, this year the pass-attack will open it up for the run-game. Daboll/Kafka are not traditional coaches... they prefer the "newfangled" pass-first offenses, and whether we like it or not there will be very little (if any) "Giants' football" on offense and a lot more open attack. Bob

I think you'll see a team that is capable of generating more big plays but struggles mightily to convert short yardage and to run out the clock.

I liked other OTs rather than JC Latham.  Harbaugh was brilliant to select Alt.  Titans should have looked elsewhere.  Not a fan of that pick.

Atlanta selecting Penix was ridiculous after securing Cousins.  Complete waste of a pick.

I think Dallas trading back did nothing for them.  Yeah they got Guyton, but they needed help at CB also and going back put them in a less advantageous position.

KC landing Xavier Worthy was brilliant.

Quote from: Philosophers on Today at 09:30:27 AMA breakaway, pass catching RB would be a nice piece to add to this offense which lost one nice piece in Barkley and needs a healthy replacement.  Eric Gray is not the answer.

I want a guy that can get tough yards between the tackles.

Maybe a bit, but I don't think that's the point. DJ is here for one more year, the new WR is a long term piece of the puzzle.

This move was not some endorsement of Jones, it was making the best of the situation. I doubt Jones is starting at the end of the year

Quote from: MightyGiants on Today at 09:15:49 AMTim,

Did you expect Jones to be somewhere other than at the bottom of the list for deep throws when he had historically bad protection and poor receivers?   That is why I answered a question with a question.  The subtext of your question is that Jones should be held responsible for the historically bad support he received last season.
That's what you're reading into it, Rich.

What is Jones responsible for? Aren't his stats attributable to him and not his offensive line?

I see a lot of frustration in this post.  Waking up this morning, I realize that BPA is a great approach as a team needs both top end talent and a lot of depth.  Giants addressed the former in spades with Nabers.  Now, let's hope they continue to stockpile more top end talent.

I am definitely excited. personally i think odunze was the better pick (dude's work ethic and charachter is absolutely top tier). something about nabers rubs me the wrong way a little, but i'm sure we will all grow to love him.

Although yes we need to address the qb situation, i am very happy we did not sell the house to get one. History shows at least half of those 6 first round qb's will fail.

For the way it went down, its a solid A pick for me.
