What I read into it is that the media has no effing clue, one way or the other, which is so often the case. As always, its only interest is for us to repeat what they are saying, and not necessarily to buy what they're selling.

I think of it as common sense; certainly not paranoia. Let's not project our own frailties and foibles toward others especially when it's little more than media-serving. How about that? Ya think?

Quote from: UKGiantsFan on March 25, 2024, 12:46:24 PMBest fit for what I want to see? Odunze. He offers several attributes our other WR's just don't.

But Nabers isn't exactly a consolation prize...

As so often happens, you've said it for me, Ceri. However, and whomever, it's not a pick that would worry me.

Kiper sure does yack. It's a wonder he doesn't choke on his tongue. Still, what he says about the Draft and QBs therein is as obvious as it is enlightening.

I agree. Unless, there is serious doubt about DJ being able and ready to start the season, I don't want to see the Giants putting cart before horse by trading up or drafting a still available McCarthy at 6. While it all may be crap shoot at best, this is a time for patience and a steady hand, not for rash decision.

Although I hope it won't happen, I probably would if either Maye or Daniels was the target, but not if it was McCarthy. Quite clearly, it's a matter of my estimation of cost/risk/reward without any second-guesser's chirping about Joe Schoen.

Quite obviously, it can be a decision based on whether any or all of this year's, shall we say, top-4 are thought to be much better prospects than for example, Sanders, Allar, Weigman, and Beck will be after their 2024 seasons? And of course, what kind of support will he then get from that which has been wanting in terms of WR1 and Oline?

But then, I suppose that someone here will have it all figured out just in case Joe Schoen hasn't.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Giants at JJ's Pro Day

As I see it, it makes no sense for the Giants to trade-up for JJ McCarthy. I don't like the cost/risk/reward calculus in doing so. Of course, then assuming that someone else hasn't jumped the Giant's shark, the question would become, will they take McCarthy at 6? Right now, I'd rate the odds as even, that is 50/50, and a little less for a trade-back. Quien sabe?

I'm not fond of the idea of a leader touting his leadership skills any more than I am in judging or passing blame on someone I don't know and have never met. I might find that to be a bit presumptuous and possibly self-aggrandizing, which would not correspond to my notion of leadership. Of course, to each his own.

Indeed, I have never regarded leadership as something to be claimed. More often, I find it reflected in a willingness of others to follow another in their own best interest whether or know it at the time. It may exhibit as a natural quality with some, but quite often it's evident only as a unique event.

I don't know if there is anything particularly useful in how we choose to address what seems to be a question. And if so, what effect the loss of Saquon Barkley in FA now may have on the Giants Offense overall?

As we know, there is a characterization of Barkley as a so called, "boom or bust" runner which suggests that his yards per attempt average, and per game rushing yardage totals reflects an imbalance between the rushes that have gone for zero yards or less and those which netted 10 or more yards- and especially those we might label as more "explosive"-and thus inflate or distort the "averages

You can decide for yourself just how significant that may be, but either way, it's quite clear that the Giants Offense has been notably more productive (PF, Yds) in the 74 games that Barkley has played than in the 24 which he has not. But then, 34-64-1 in 6 seasons is hardly compelling in any sense.

Except for whom we expect will be the starting QB, we can only guess what the Giants post-FA/Draft, 2024 Offense may look like, and whether it will be any better or worse than it has been, or whomever might compel a Defense to key on.

Cheers!

Quote from: Fletch on March 21, 2024, 10:14:46 AMJust pathetic. If they think I am paying money to watch this , they have another thing coming. No idea why they are trying so bad to make fetch happen with Jones. The guy clearly sucks.

Let's not get carried away. For one thing, I doubt that the Giants know or care about your non-spending habits. But one thing or, more particularly, person whom you ought not to steam roller as part of the blame game is Daniel Jones. Not only did he not ask to be drafted by a talent-challenged team which has done diddly squat for most of a decade plus, but can we name anyone who has worked harder for his now 3 HCs than he? Ne c'est pas?

Cheers!

So, who are we trying to make seem smarter? Gettleman, or us chickens? I suppose if we're already into re-drafting, we must have the current one all mocked up and ready to go. Seriously, does anyone really give a sh*t what "Dave" would have done had he not left the team in worse shape than he found it?

Cheers!

Quote from: katkavage on March 20, 2024, 12:41:38 PMThat's what Drew Lock is there for. And if the OL is still bad, or hasn't improved significantly, even with their all pro left tackle (that most teams don't have), then it might be time for new management.

New management? You mean new for the 4th time in 8 years? Sure, that ought to do it. Or are you talking about the Maras selling the team? You might actually have something there.

Cheers!

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on March 16, 2024, 07:48:58 AMI think Jones is pretty close to a lock to start in week one if he is cleared by the doctors, which seems solidly above 50/50. I think the real question is how long he stays in that role as the season progresses. Will he stay healthy, and if he does stay healthy will he play well enough to avoid being benched for performance-related reasons? A big part of the answer to this depends on whether they draft a QB or not.

Perfectly stated. At this point, is there something more which needs saying which would not otherwise reflect a personal bias?

Cheers!
