Big Blue Huddle / Re: Coughlin's comment on the Linebackers
« on: June 18, 2013, 10:22:02 AM »

I feel better knowing there each player will have to earn his position.

And more than ever before keep earning it through the season or there will be an individual with very similar skills and experience right behind them to take their job.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: What Victor Cruz was doing instead of Mini-Camp
« on: June 18, 2013, 08:57:27 AM »
Ultimately in itself it is not a big deal, nor are the strung together incidents;nevertheless, if Cruz did follow in the footsteps of so many other athletes whose potential was cut short or short lived  due to the big head fame brings I suspect few would disagree the signs were in place and this was the beginning.

No one knows which way this will turn out but it is just as much a non issue as it is an issue.

Were it not for this board I would not have the slightest idea what Victor Cruz was doing. Sometimes the atmosphere of this place is that of a circle of catty women gossiping.

Sometimes?

It would be easy to conclude that hidden in all those regular season stats you have enumerated is a Rosetta Stone for deciphering success in the NFL. But fuggedaboutit ! That, of course, it's why NFL football seasons are so profoundly unpredictable.

I never thought I would see a team who was last in the league in rushing win the Superbowl, but it happenned. Phil Simms feels that, more than in any other sport, the statistics in the NFL lie.

As one Owner once said, "Just win baby."

Statistics are better to tell a story not to predict a story.  Models attempt to predict not stats.

The only thing that lies is the mind that does not understand that with which they are presented....

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Cap ?...CAN WE ACTUALLY AFFORD #80 & #88?
« on: June 13, 2013, 09:51:52 AM »
This was the general theme of a Ralph article some months ago....

The Giants have about or had not too long ago 90 million in cap space tied up to 42 players, 17 of which are very young and inexperienced not likely to be on the roster in 2014 yet they only account for 8 million of the 90 mill tied up.

So the Giants have 81 million tied up in 25 players.

the 2014 cap will be close to 123-125 million.

So they have 40 mill   to sign half their roster.

That includes, Cruz, Nicks, Tuck, and Andre Brown.

Now add in the in the fact in 2014  that they have contracts for:

Eli 20 million 7 mill dead money
Webster 2.2 million 0 dead money
Snee 9 million 0 dead money
Rolle 9.2 million 0 dead money
Bass 8.2 million 0 dead money
kiwi 7 million 0 dead money

I suspect anything is possible considering what who gets cut and/or restructures but it will take some reconfiguring of the roster and some excellent contract negotiations....

QB and DE are the two highest paid Postions on a football field

It would be improbable but not impossible to have a franchise QB, two 7 million dollar   receivers, and a defense designed around high quality DE's....

but it will be at the expense of something else.

Maybe will we will have to give up our high qulaity, expensive Linebackers?  /sarcasm/

Big Blue Huddle / Quotes: David Wilson on increased role
« on: June 12, 2013, 12:49:39 PM »
RB David Wilson meets the media on Day two of mini camp Q: Does the change in responsibility this year for you change anything for you?
A: Most definitely, so I have to be really precise in practice and give the coaches confidence. I know they have it in me and I’ve been looking good and doing what I need to do so far. I just got to get better and better each day, use this offseason to be as effective as I can when the season starts.

Q: Where do you feel you are in terms of pass blocking?
A: Pass blocking… I didn’t have many opportunities last year to show that capability due to my reps and that’s an area that I definitely need to show the coaches that I can handle and that’s an area that a running back in the NFL definitely needs to be able to handle. I’m doing all the right things to take steps towards that and be ready for the season.

Q: How do you feel about this season in terms of you and Andre Brown splitting carries? Are you a guy that needs 15 carries a game?
A: I’m not worried about the carries or the yards or stats. It doesn’t mean as much as winning games and us working together to make the running game effective so the passing game can be effective. When you balance out the two that’s when you win games and we definitely need to win games because the Super Bowl is here this year. That’s where I want to be.

Q: Are you still going to be involved in returning kicks?
A: On kickoff return I definitely want to be a part of that. That’s the part of the game that I like the most ever since I started playing football. That was age eight. I really enjoy that part of the game and any way I can help the team I’m willing to do it and I definitely want to be back there.

Q: Did Ahmad Bradshaw leave you guys anything that you can use going forward?
A: Yeah. He left a great impression on us at our position. We have big shoes to fill because he’s a tough running back and he did all of the things necessary for the Giants to win games. He had two Super Bowls while he was here. So he left a great impression on us to come behind and follow.

Q: How long is it going to take for you and the offensive line to feel comfortable with each other to be like the bell cow?
A: Not long because we have a good chemistry and those guys are going to do what they need to do. They want to win just as bad as I want to win and when you have everybody on the field giving their all and wanting to win and doing all the right things that they need to do you get great results. I don’t think it will take long for us to get accustomed to working together and knowing what they’re going to do and being able to anticipate their next move.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Nicks shows up
« on: June 12, 2013, 11:37:05 AM »
What an absolute joke. Bunch of stupid questions he should've said no comment to and kept on walking.

What I find interesting is that Nicks has not explained his choice of missing OTAs.   His agent claims it's not contract related, but there seems to be no other logical explanation.   Guess George Young and his "if they say it's not about the money, it's about the money" still holds true.

If it was ALL about the money, he would still be in North Carolina.

Move along folks.....nothing to see here.

Agreed, he said his fellow players "feel where I was coming from."

It is absolutely about the money and it appears he is not doing one thing that is not contractually required that might jeopardize his ability to get his next contract.

It would also appear he feels his missing the OTA's will not impact his abilities on the field, nor do his abilities need to be improved from previous years; atleast not at the expense of his next contract.

Chris,
I thought I had read he has lowered his asking price to 8 million per but can not agree on the guarenteed money
