Thought I read Moseley was playing right guard?
Pugh is taking second-team reps at RT. DD is the starter at right tackle until further notice. Pugh can play all five positions on the OL. This is what makes him such an unusual commodity.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: CB depth chart, how would you set it?

After Prince, we a lot of grey is right Greg! Seriously hope CB is a priority when cuts happen. Thinking we should sign two of the best cap friendly Vet FA's available immediately.
Gotta be six deep @ Corner, & we aren't even close with current Roster.
We don't need stars, we can get along just fine with a couple of solid Vets.

LB play has been so lousy for so long, we r desperate to take any modicum of compliment from anybody. I know the players, I know the staff, banter galore on tap until we kick off for real.
I'll believe it, when I see it. Anything else regarding Linebacker play, is just wishful thinking.
I'm supposed to get excited because these guys are "unselfish"? Because they hang out for meetings?
Oh brother! /sarcasm/

Cruz signed before the deadline, which means something. Maybe in the future the true story will emerge? But for now as mentioned, it's moot. We got Cruz through the year, and if he doesn't suffer serious injury this year while also being productive , we should tag him next year.
A lot of football between now and  & when we have to decide when to tag him. This strategy allows us two full seasons (hopefully) of Cruz's services. Cost; Tender $2.8 M, + TAG $8 M = $10.8 M.
Sounds like a win/win for the Jints and Cruz. We get the services of  Cruz for two years without being involved in a long-term contract. Cruz plays two years of football for the New York Giants and gets paid
$10.8 M plus endorsements. If we want to sign him after the Tender & Tag, it will be for palatable sum I suspect.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Cap ?...CAN WE ACTUALLY AFFORD #80 & #88?
« on: June 14, 2013, 04:53:59 PM »
Some data for those that think that running the ball is not critical to success in today's NFL;

2011 S.B.

                     Jints.                          Pats
Passing.        296/40 attempts       276/41 attempts
Rushing.        114/ 4.1 av.              83/ 4.4 av.
Possession.     37:05.                     22:55

Additional 31 yards on the ground by the Jints is noticeable difference in the box score significantly contributing to critical lopsided time of possession differential

z, yes that was me.

I think everybody should pay strict attention to the post by CA. Miles Austin looked pretty darn good coming from a small school in Central Jersey undrafted. He burst on the scene, and the Girls wind up writing a huge check to keep him. Now they regret that, as he's turned out to be a financial albatross around their neck.
We can keep Cruz and Nicks around for a while with a tender and a Tag. After that, I'm sad to say, no longer because they're past their prime and certainly not worth huge money that people seem so free to toss around in conversations today.

Theoretically, if some tricky math got those two under contract, I think eventually it's going to be bad news for us. What are we talking about here? $14-$16 million in Cap space for two receivers? Sooner or later we won't be able to sign key players on the OL or DL, and you know what comes next...
I get a real bad vibe here. Nicks is rarely healthy, & I don't think Cruz has been the same since he took that cheap shot by the Pittsburgh defender.

WR's don't win games. QB's, OL & DL win games. Run the ball successfully, and stop the run successfully & you're going to win games, Especially playoff games.
Watch what Randle, Murphy, and Meyers can do for us.
I believe JR and Company can find replacements for both of them.
My answer is "No" we can't afford #80 & #88.

Mike, I'll throw this one on the pile. What if slats does in fact step down as GM? Maybe he throws everybody a curve? On his way out the door he hires Messier. Slats, Figuring since he's out of the line of fire, if it fails he's not around to take the heat?

Steve, interesting perspective there. Kidd's hire is even more dramatic with regards to going from player to head coach in a matter of a few weeks. Love to see Messier behind the bench with Leetch handling the D. But are we stacking the odds against us in that scenario?

Something that stood out to me last night, was the ability for most players on the ice to be able to accurately one time shots. I guess it's a confidence thing, they have it, we don't. The one timers are so effective in reducing allowable reaction time by the D and the goalie.

Apparently, Mess is still messing around with the HC job opening. Seems that Brian Leach has thrown his hat into the ring as a willful addition to Mess's theoretical staff.
Lack of coaching experience has been mentioned as a drawback to the aforementioned hire.
Reportedly, front runner for the job is still the ex Canucks coach Vigneaul. Seems the Stars r in hot pursuit as well...
