And JUCO or not, I'd take Brandon Graham over Pierre-Paul in a heartbeat regardless of how many backflips the dude can do.  They said Elvis Dumervil was too small too and all he did was lead the league in sacks after dominating his conference.  I'll always take the guy who dominated his conference over the guy who looks great at the combine.  George Selvie looked just as good as Pierre-Paul over his career, if not better, and they played on the same team.

Thanks as always Ceri. Based on that write up it seems like Pierre-Paul would be a tremendous mistake.  A guy with little to no production on the field but wowed at the combine.  Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.  Dunlap is intriguing as a 2nd rounder if he lasts that long.  Seems like he might be a nice fit and at 47 I think he'd be an absolute steal.  Wouldn't think about him at 15 though.  With or without an Osi trade I wouldn't be too shocked if they picked a DE.  We've seen them do it before with the Kiwi pick afterall.

I cannot express in words how this news makes me feel. This is just tragic and terrible.  He was a great contributor to this board and just an overall intelligent fan.  He will be missed.  RIP Bedl365

The good thing about being in this position the Giants are in, namely pretty stacked at almost all positions across the board, is that they don't have to worry TOO much about "good value" in terms of making their pick.  What I mean by that is if Unger and Mack are both off the board by the time the Giants are picking at 45, and they feel like Wood would be a perfect center for their offense, they can afford to maybe reach a bit and take him right there rather than risk him not being around at 60 or trying to find a trading partner to trade down.  Obviously they will take the best player available to them when they pick, but in a situation such as that it would be hard to fault them for going after a guy they project to be a perfect fit in their offense especially since they don't really have too many holes to fill.  I doubt I'll be complaining if they take Wood at 45.

If you liked that Mighty wait till you see his numbers from his pro day:

ILB James Laurinaitis (6-2, 242) improved on his 4.76 40 time at the NFL Combine with a 4.72. He looked smooth during position drills and also lowered his short-shuttle time to 4.18 seconds.

Now thats what I'm talking about.

Chalk Talk / Re: Are FS and SS necessary in todays pass happy offenses?
« on: February 02, 2008, 12:47:58 AM »
I think quality safeties are more important than ever in today's NFL.  The thing is that they have to be GOOD safeties.  Painter's point is that with the offenses running 4 and 5 wr formations, safeties could/should be CB really but that does not tell the whole story.  Any team with a good to great RB can exploit that defense without adequate safeties and line backers to stop him.  Thats why the Pats have been as successful as they have been.  They have a 1st round draft pick in Maroney running ball so if teams, like Jacksonville, dare them to run then can do it and do it effectively.  Maroney is a great back and they have the best qb in the game and 3 top wrs on top of that, thats why they are without question the most prolific offense in NFL history.  There is no way to really shut them down but this Giants defense matches up about as well as any other in this league and if they can put together a solid game plan and execute it properly they can win this game.  There are only a couple teams in this league that can even HOPE to play with these Pats, but the Giants are one of them and if they play up to their capabilities they can win this game.  I'm ready for Sunday lets see what they can bring at us.
