I'm impressed with DJ's health and recovery so far. If the Giants can't work in a deep passing game with Nabers, it's academic. Another awful season staring in the face.

Daboll's offense has to got chunk plays.

I agree with your point to an extent.   I would have preferred to hear Lock was lighting it up and that there could be a QB competition.   I consider the Admittedly early reports on Lock less than ideal.

barring injury, 4 of the 5 will be in the RB room.  If we need a FB, they'll use an OL or a blocking TE.  IMO Brightwell had some promise, as do all the other young RB's.  Singletary can't carry the full load.  I see 3/4 of them sticking with singletary.

Steve Smith Jr., for all of his talking during his career, backed it with tremendous effort and practiced more than everyone on his team. That he attends NFL camps, such as the Giants, to coach up the young receivers is a gift and blessing for these kids who can look up to him as an example of how to make it in the NFL and, also, have someone they can always turn to as a big brother of sorts.

We may have despised him as an opponent who tore the Giants up in his heyday; however, to see this dynamic of the man, the person who cares about helping the youngsters breaking in, regardless of the team, is one of the positive stories the NFL should be proud of and lucky to have a man of this character to channel his desire to coach in this unique manner.

Peace!

Quote from: todge on Today at 01:27:28 PMIt wasn't the same team. The key was the early loss of Thomas due to a hamstring. His replacement Ezeudu was totally overmatched. It was also the debut of a rookie C. The level of competition was also a huge difference the first six games. Jones had less than 2 seconds on average to throw the ball before there was a jailbreak into the backfield. Even Aikman commented that DJ didn't have a chance. Later on the addition of Pugh and the return of Thomas stabilized the OL somewhat.

If DeVito and Taylor moved the team better as you claim, then why isn't Taylor starting this year? DeVito is hanging onto a roster spot by a shoelace. DeVito was ultimately benched in the Saints game because he was woefully unprepared - he was far more interested in signing autographs than spending time in the QB room.

Your last take that Taylor and DeVito are more in demand than Jones is a total head scratcher. As is your inference that both QBs are better than Jones.

Jones isn't being traded under any circumstances. So I'm pretty sure you can abandon that hope. This is and always will be a team game and a QB needs protection and weapons to thrive. Give those to Jones and you will see success.

Taylor wasn't resigned because he went elsewhere for more money. He is being paid as the top backup Qb in the league for a reason.  His Big Time Throw rate was tops in the league last year and his adjusted EPA was top 15. He also threw the ball and connected deep almost 3 times the rate of Jones or Devito.

Was Taylor's play elite, no it wasn't but his play was significantly better than anything else we saw last year.

I would be over the moon if Jones replicated Taylor's stats/production last year over the course of this upcoming season.

Film study, lessons learned, go to work to improve one opportunity at a time, strive to become a leader of the team while learning from the veterans ... all the tidbits I would expect to hear from the Giants' young Center given his pedigree.

His initial props on Bricillo are encouraging and hopefully they will translate into a cohesive unit on game day.

Thank you for the tidbits, Rich @MightyGiants !

Peace!
