I feel so bad for Sham. He was a great horse but against Secretariat, he just couldn't compete.

It wouldn't be Derby week without one of your great clips on this, and other amazing horses and races.

Thanks, it was a tremendous race.

Quote from: katkavage on Today at 01:23:53 PMThank you, Pete Rozelle. He bestowed upon the Giants, whether they liked it or not, George Young. Appointed by Rozelle to save the floundering franchise. Given autonomy, Young put in process a plan. It delivered. And from Young and his doings the Giants got Accorsi. Now John Mara is left to his own devices. So far, not so good. But I'm happy that I experienced those Super Bowl wins.

That is correct Kat, but in those days, when Wellington was the boss, our GM, Mr. Young, was lord and master over everything. To the best of my memory, Wellington never meddled into anything Giants business. Young did as he pleased, hired, fired, drafted and if he needed to run it by Wellington, which I doubt, it was just a sign-off. We used to say the BM of the Giants was a job for life unless they wanted to step down. I believe Accorias had similar power, It wasn't until Wellington passed and John took over, that the meddling started. Now our GM is more of a figurehead if he ahs to get John to sign off on everything.

Truly one of the better players on some pretty bad teams.

May he RIP

I don't think it is even close. The QB is the guy who handles the ball on every single play. The WR may get 10 touches all game. The QB can function with a decent WR and make several others look a lot better than they really are. A great WR can't make an average QB look great.

The QB is the leader of any team, not the WR. PERIOD

If the dc can find the right place for Simmons he could be a true game changer. He is more than a situation type player.

With the new schedule getting ready to come out mid-May, we do know the teams we are going to play, and according to last year's records, we play the 6th hardest schedule in the league. Last year we had the 4th hardest schedule.

Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on April 30, 2024, 10:50:31 AMHere is my daily prayer: "Dear Lord, please let our message board be something other than more discussions about Daniel Jones that have been discussed with the exact same points more than ten thousand times ad nauseam, by naysayers who are too obsessed with the subject to let it go and move on and cheer our glorious team...the horse is not only dead, but it has been beaten into dust and even the dust no longer exists as it has blown away with the wind. Please don't let it keep coming back...Amen"

As long as the same people keep pushing their constant agenda, whether pro or anti, this will dominate. We know who these are and it is a constant thing just to try to score points.

I will join you in that prayer.

The teacher gave her fifth grade class an assignment: Get their parents to tell them a story with a moral at the end of it. The next day, the kids came back and, one by one, began to tell their stories.

There were all the regular types of stuff: Spilled milk and pennies saved. But then the teacher realized, much to her dismay, that only Janie was left. "Janie, do you have a story to share?"

'Yes ma'am. My daddy told me a story about my Mommy. She was a Marine pilot in Desert Storm, and her plane got hit. She had to bail out over enemy territory, and all she had was a flask of whiskey, a pistol, and a survival knife.

She drank the whiskey on the way down so the bottle wouldn't break, and then she parachuted right into the middle of 20 Iraqi troops. She shot 15 of them with the pistol, until she ran out of bullets, killed four more with the knife, till the blade broke, and then she killed the last Iraqi with her bare hands."

''Good Heavens" said the horrified teacher. What did your Daddy tell you was the moral to this horrible story'?"

"Don't xxxx with Mommy when she's been drinking."

I love these touching stories!

I would also go with JJ. He has landed in the best possible situation for a rookie, that all he really needs to do is not screw things up.
will he be the starter day 1?

Quote from: katkavage on April 29, 2024, 04:39:25 PMThe schedule folks. Don't forget the schedule. In 2022 the schedule was easy. They played the AFC South. Last year they had to play the NFC West. Lost 3 out of four. This year they play the AFC North and NFC South. NFC South can go either way. Carolina is the only team as of now they would be favored against. In their division, they need to prove finally that they can beat Dallas, until they do, they are underdogs. Philly...we shall see which team shows up. Washington will be better. Don't count on the two easy wins. So go through the schedule. Of course there are injuries to other teams that change the dynamic. But right now, on paper, I don't see more than 7 wins. That's being generous.

Kat

Yes, we had a horrible schedule last year, but even with a decent schedule, it still all depends on when you play certain teams. Last year, we started out, what, our first 6 games, against maybe the best teams in the league and it hurts to get slaughtered starting the season. It has to have an effect on the player's psyche. Give us a few winnable games in t he first 5-6 games and let t he team feel what winning really does for morale.

Throughout most of my football life, I have been a 'Believe it when I see it' guy. The only real time I let that guard down was during the Parcels years when we knew we were good and we expected championships every year.
Coming out of the draft, most of us get a bit more optimistic, but as long as we haven't upgraded several key positions, again, I enter another season 'Believing it when I see it".

If I may be so bold as to ask, where was I when these 'flashes of brilliance' occurred? Did I run off to get a snack, visit the WC, or nodded off because of our exciting offense?

I welcome new opinions of our team, but let's be a bit realistic.
