Quote from: Trench on Today at 12:47:59 PMThis board has extreme bias going both ways for and against Jones. It is far from a one way ticket.

And that is ok. We are all just fans.

Sorry, while I understand why you might choose to suggest it, I don't agree. We are not all just fans when there are those among us who, rather than root for the team's success, feel compelled to make every relentless effort to demean someone like Daniel Jones despite being fully aware, as are we all, of the uncertainty regarding his future and with it both the challenge and consequences involved for all concerned. For such people here, it is both meanspirited and gratuitous and hardly reflects that of a true Giants fan.

Quote from: Bob In PA on Today at 06:31:26 AMTim: Right, but my point is... it's not conclusive that they are dissing Jones, or even dissatisfied with Jones.

Clearly, a high pick is expected to take over eventually, but it's still be Jones' job to lose (this year).

They paid him a lot of money. The only way they can attempt to get their "money's-worth" is to play him.

Bob

If by they you mean Schoen/Daboll/Mara, and not those here more invested in their petty egos than anything like a rooting interest, then I would agree, Bob, as it is altogether obvious that Daniel Jones will be the Giants starting QB this season and will remain so unless and until they are forced to make a change.

Can you imagine someone compiling a bunch of numbers to try to legitimize his hate while knowing full-well the compelling reasons why the Giants must hope to achieve a thoroughly objective assessment of Daniel Jones's cost/performance at this critical point in his future and theirs? Otherwise, you will have to enlighten me as to how the 3 pages of largely editorial posts thus far have done anything to alter that simple reality?

Daniel Jones, if healthy, and given his major share of the cap, will be the starter, not Drew Lock as was also never the intention and commitment re Taylor/ DeVito, last season.

Second guess, wear out your fingers crunching numbers, redo the Draft if you must, or whatever it takes for you to deny current reality instead of rooting and supporting all concerned until actual events bring forth a different reality, one not fueled by petty bias.

Quote from: MightyGiants on May 07, 2024, 02:21:45 PMIn all fairness to Emory Hunt, he has been down on Daniel Jones since he was drafted.  So his latest comments are, at the very least, consistent.

So what? He's accomplished his task and so have you. What does fairness have to do with it? You mean he's not one who tries to read fan's fickle minds and then not go with the flow?

I have reason to like the choice, which is all that I should, or would say for now.

If they had said something different, you wouldn't have started this thread- and don't they know it. :nanner:

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Better or Worse

QB- Neutral. There is no basis to suggest that Daniel Jones, even if healthy, will be any better or worse than he has been. Better depth, yes, as it could hardly have been worse. Still, it's really all about DJ.

RB- Neutral. Even if Barkley has a great year with the Eagles, as he did for a couple or three of his 6 seasons with the Giants, I can't help but to think of him as a "boom or bust" RB. That may be unfair, but I feel no loss in his departure. Still, while I am optimistic about the new additions and current roster, and so don't feel it to be Worse, I can't yet rate it as other than Neutral.

TE- Neutral. We can hope but there is no real basis to think or to say otherwise.

OL- Better. It could hardly have been worse. Except for questions regarding Neal and ORT, which I expect to sort itself out either there or at ORG and otherwise to be a better net roster overall.

DL- Better. Even with the loss of Williams at the 3-tech, I see the addition of Burns to Thibs and Ojulari at Edge or 4-Man as more than compensating for what was not a good Wink D overall.

LB- Better. Best in many years both Inside and Outside with those mentioned above and with Okereke, McFadden, and Simmons at MLB and ILB.

CB/Safety- Worse. Until proven otherwise, I certainly can't say Better and feel that Neutral would be a cop out. I can say, however, that I am pleased to have Shane Bowen as the new DC. In regard to the play in and of the Secondary, I will guess off-the-ball / bend don't break coverage outside the 20s while none tougher/better/ stingier in the Redzone.

In any case, for now quien sabe?

Great = ?

Wow! Is that such a challenging question that it requires all that cockadoodle? Good gosh! In any case, we would do well to define what we mean by "Great..." in 25 words or less, beholder's eye or otherwise, or is that just too much to ask?

You may have to retire whenever he does, Rich. You won't have anyone else left to blame, or you may just have to abandon the habit.  :hmm:

Quote from: Uncle Mickey on May 06, 2024, 10:51:03 AMHe will need to perform at a level that is commensurate with the better talent that is assembled around him.

Provided that the OL under Bracillo takes the expected and hopeful jump to league average or better in the advanced metrics like time to pressure and quality of pressure, and Nabers ends up being closer to OBJ and J'Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson rookie year than Rueben Randle, then DJ's production should not just slightly improve but drastically.

I hate placing numbers on this kind of thing because there are so many things that can happen in a season, but I'll play along.

His rookie year he threw for 24TDs and 12 INTs in 12 games.  I would fully expect something around that 2:1 per game ratio to justify continuing with him. So something in the area of 34TDs and 17INTs and 4000+ yards over a full season.

4000 yards by the way would put him right around the top 10 of last years QB rankings.

https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/nfl-passing-yard-leaders-2023-to-2024

For more context 34 TDs would have been top 2 last year.

Top 10 puts him around 25TDs

https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/nfl-passing-td-leaders-2023-to-2024

So asking for 34 as a barometer to keep him may be a bit extreme lol

25 TDs relative to last years top 10 is probably a fairer number.

It just ain't that complicated. Good gosh!!!

I don't necessarily disagree with Gettleman's opinion re so called, "media experts". However, I must remind our resident cognoscenti that on the very day that John Mara announced his decision to continue with the family history of cronyism, I suggested that he and his bloviating crony were "clowns".

On that basis, I don't give a flying you know what for what any Mara thinks or does regarding anything other than the choice of a GM and practice field attire. On a positive note, however, at least he is not Jerrah Jones.

That is not up to any of us to decide, but it certainly puts a lot of pressure on Schoen/Daboll et al.

Doubtless, he will have to lead the Giants to a winning/playoff season and so prove to all but his haters that he is worth his next 2 year's cost.

Otherwise, I'd rather not think of him and team having a mediocre season such that they may have to trade up in the next Draft so as to be able to gamble on a successor. But, of course, it's always more a matter of luck than anything else.

Quote from: BluesCruz on May 03, 2024, 10:06:39 AMWell...... based upon Tom Bradys rotisserie of average WRs playing way above their heads, you have to go with the QB position

"The clothes" do not make the man....never believed that old saying

See it as you wish but, as you do, you might want to reflect on the fact that Tom Brady & Co lost not one but two Lombardis to Eli (117-117-0) Manning who has been described- fairly or not- as a profoundly mediocre Regular Season QB.

The haters-you know who y'are- gonna hate. Baiters gonna 'bate. Whereas, a true Giants fan will wish Daniel Jones good health, and everyone on the on the team and in the organization, success in the coming season.

In any case, we all know the very particular ifs, ands, and buts which are most likely to influence the eventual outcomes and decisions in due course, and sans our assistance.

Cheers!
