Huge!!

When Panarin took a penalty to break up a Ranger power play and turn it into 4 on 4, I texted a friend with the comment "first time I've heard Panarin's name tonight." It was as if he saw that text, resented it, and wanted to show me up. And show me up he most certainly did. What a sensational play by him to set up the Laffy goal and then obviously to also get it done in OT. Great stuff!

I want this wrapped up on Saturday so badly. Back to back sweeps would be immense. If they win in five I'm obviously fine with that but I really think they should be looking to end this this weekend. The Canes have to be totally deflated at this point.

Has anyone watched "Baby Reindeer" on Netflix?

Very creepy and disturbing, but also very good. It's also unclear how much of it is actually true (nobody seems to know for sure other than perhaps the real people involved). Very mysterious, unsettling, disturbing series.

I highly recommend it if those kinds of shows are your kind of thing. If you can't handle some off-putting scenes, stay far, far away.

Quote from: LennG on May 09, 2024, 08:22:27 PMNo offense here, but I saw this yesterday and was going to post it, but as soon as I saw the rankings, I decided (and for me, not a Daniel Jones fan) against it. It was really too much over the top.

How in the world can you rank 5 guys who never took a damn snap in the NFL ahead of even the worst QB in the league?

I get your point Lenn, but if you're doing these rankings you have to put the rookies somewhere if they're expected to be starters.

I'm not saying these rookie rankings are going to be accurate, but I'm not sure you should just automatically put them all at the dead bottom of the league if you're trying to give your forecast of where you think they'll be. I think the writer is making a speculative assessment here. He may be wrong in his assessment obviously, but just automatically ranking them at the bottom solely because they're rookies doesn't seem like the best approach to me.

Quote from: EDjohnst1981 on May 09, 2024, 05:04:27 PMPerhaps nobody. But i wouldn't take take Young over Jones.

Perhaps I'm wrong. But he shouldn't be last.

I think Darnold is likely to start the season in Minny, and Jones is definitely better than Darnold, at least in my eyes.

He may also be better than Brissett. Is he definitely, 100%, decisively better than Brissett? Possibly, but I'm not sure. I'd say probably, but I don't think it's some runaway, obvious thing.

He is very likely better than some of these incoming rookies, but we don't know that for sure yet, nor do we know which ones.

The rest of the QBs on this list, I'm sorry, but I don't see the evidence that Jones is clearly better than them. Could that change this year? Sure it could - these rankings are fluid. But right here, right now, I'm just not sure that that's the case.

Quote from: EDjohnst1981 on May 09, 2024, 04:43:13 PMI'm no Jones apologist but dead last is laughable.

I won't even give them a click.

I'm not really disagreeing, but just as an exercise, and bearing in mind that incoming rookies are clearly a speculative projection in this, which QBs in this list have proven to be decisively worse besides Bryce Young?

Quote from: Doc16LT56 on May 09, 2024, 04:21:58 PMI'm pretty sure players have been making these kinds of bets for as long as sports have existed.

The biggest takeaway for me is the need to coach young players to not put all their business out there. There's too much exposure with podcasts and social media. So young players have to be coached to exercise discretion in those informal settings.

We don't need to know all their business. Today it's a simple bet, and it sounds like Jayden Daniels was surprised Nabers made the bet public. Who knows what he'll be talking about tomorrow. How much grief could have been spared for the boat trip players if that photo was never made public? Young players need to learn to keep these things private, and then when they're retired they can share all the war stories they want.

Agreed, Doc. I don't really have an issue with the bet itself. Would people feel differently if it were $200 instead of 10 grand? Because $10k to these guys is like $200 to most regular Joes. $10k may even be less to them. A society that is obsessed with gambling (not just on sports but on stocks, real estate, crypto, art, etc) probably shouldn't be judging these kids for making a competitive proposition bet with each other.

What I think was foolish and unnecessary on their parts was publicizing it. But that's inevitably going to happen more these days with the advent of social media than it did 20 years ago and earlier.

I'm not expecting much from him but have absolutely no opposition to the signing given the price.

Keeping in mind Malik Nabers is only 20, Robinson's being here for a year or two could be beneficial to the young man. Same with other young guys in the room like Hyatt and Wan'Dale who have never had a mentor who has had real success in this league.

But do I think he's going to put up significant production for us? No. I think he's pretty shot. Lots of injuries over the years, and he hasn't had a productive year since 2020. He used to be awesome though, and he could definitely have a positive impact off the field and in camp etc.

Quote from: uconnjack8 on May 08, 2024, 06:25:39 PMI think for many of us, the 1st game was a slap back to reality.  It would have been one thing to lose,  but to look completely outclassed was a different story.

Yup. That game was a complete fiasco. One of the worst performances in franchise history if not the worst. We looked like an expansion team going up against the defending SB champs in that game. Even worse than that, actually. More like a college team playing a good NFL team.

We were only a 2 or 3 point underdog in that game too, and many people were backing the Giants.

I have to admit, I had no clue what the connection was well into having a bunch of the words. I knew that digits were numbers obviously, but "kinds of numbers" were not a category that crossed my mind until I had a bunch of them. They got me good today. Pretty clever.

Quote from: MightyGiants on May 08, 2024, 08:04:47 AMHe lit it up in the CFL.  He's a bit short at 6' 1", but I think Tommy Cutlets has some serious competition for QB 3.  The Giants claimed Rourke on waivers.   The Pats got him by claiming him on waivers (when the Jags waived him), and they beat out the Texans, who also put a claim in on him.  I think there could be something more than just a camp body in him.

I tend to agree. If I'm a betting man, I'd probably give him a moderate edge to be our practice squad QB this year over Tommy D.

Do I think he'll ever see the field this year in a real game if at least one of Jones or Luck is healthy? Nope.
