The Front Porch / Re: Baseball rules

That is most bizarre Len. Baseball is such an amazing sport. You can watch for decades and then one day see something you've never seen before.

I guess I've never thought about it before but, in theory, a pitcher can have an infinite number of strikeouts in an inning.

Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on Today at 02:01:22 PMNot that this guy is another Aaron Donald, but one should concentrate more on the size of the heart, than the size of the body.

You read my mind with this thought right above.

I would love nothing more than for the Giants to find a player with the heart and fire-brimming intensity of another undersized defensive player they drafted 30 years ago, Jessie Armstead.

I wish Chatman all the best and hope he can find his way onto the Giants in some capacity.

Peace!

All right, all-right, now!

C'mon everyone! We all know this is a public engagement opportunity for the press to meet the kids. But, it's also an indoctrination for each of them into the New York Football Giants and get them all registered into the Giants' everything (e.g. human resources, health, physicals, meetings, getting fitted for their equipment, etc. ... no different from your first days at boot camp).

They entered 1925 Giants Drive as college kids. They'll walk out as New York Football Giants.

Simple as that. That is, until they go through their real "boot camp" this summer.

We wish them all well.

Peace!

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on Today at 11:07:18 AMSo your argument is that if both of those players had been 100% healthy in all four quarters, we would have instead looked good in that game instead of losing 40-0?

Get your facts straight, my very good friend. It was 0-41. Again zero, fourty-one!

Lest we forget!

(Seriously, but in jest!)

Peace!

Quote from: AZGiantFan on May 11, 2024, 03:20:24 PMI can't help thinking that going from 'Assistant' to 'Manager' is a lot easier if you have the right last name.

I know the line of work I'm in there's a blatantly clear line of demarcation between the two. One is still a peon while the other is a steward of the company. In the Football Giants' Organization, however, that line may be blurred or nothing at all, if it even exists. Perhaps, it is nothing more than an apprenticeship role.

The franchise is owned by Mara and Tisch. So, it should come as no surprise that there are Mara and Tisch members occupying the org chart.

But these two personnel assignments were approved by Joe Schoen since they fall under the Operations organization.

Unless we're starting a "John and Steve ordered Joe to approve these assignments or they'd be taking their GM for a ride" conspiracy theory, I'd suggest this is an internal business process efficiency move.

Peace!

Quote from: Trench on Today at 02:58:20 PMAnd he had fast feet. Eyes wide open and scared look, locked on every receiver and made horrible decisions. You can attempt to defend it that's fine by me, but he looked overmatched and nervous.

What do you expect? QB behavior changes when trust in OL breaks down.

Quote from: MightyGiants on Today at 01:42:29 PMI saw both you and @DaveBrown74 bring up injuries.  That seems to be an invention to let the author off the hook, though, as the author never suggested he had injury concerns.  He said "limitations," which implies talent, rather than "uncertainty," which one might claim is an injury issue (even if the author never mentioned injury concerns

He used "limitations" referring to the whole offense, not specifically to Daniel Jones. He used the word "uncertainty" to describe what Daniel Jones might be able to bring to the table this year. That wording is consistent with what one might say about a player whose precise level of health is unclear.

Honestly, who cares about any of this anyway? Even if the guy is a "Jones hater", which I have no idea if that's the case, who gives a damn? I don't see the point of getting so sensitive about the opinions of some random stranger whose views have no bearing on anything the front office or coaches will do.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Better or Worse
Last post by Painter - Today at 02:59:43 PM
All that we fans are really good at is second-guessing and never better than when we are practicing on ourselves as I am right now.

For me at least, rooting requires optimism and thus anticipates improvement which is something I expect we will see this year. Yeah, I know that's not bucking the odds by much when last season Our Heroes were ranked 29th overall on Offense and 27th on Defense.

I have already mentioned how much the addition of a true star No. 1 WR will add to what I believe will be a top-notch Receiver Corps overall, and that I believe the loss of Barkley will be less of a liability than some might think- especially given the addition of guys like Singleterry and Tracy, Jr to whatever is Gray's potential.  That assumes, of course that there will be a notable improvement from last year's abysmal Oline play.

As for the Defense, I think I already have made clear my view that the additions which have since been made to the Front 7 not only compensate for the loss of Williams but will make it the best it has been in quite some time. As for the Secondary, although still an area of concern until proven otherwise, I feel better now that they've added Nubin, Phillips and McCloud to the mix.  And, I must say also that I am quite comfortable with Shane Bowen replacing Wink as DC.

And so now, for better or worse, cop-out or otherwise, I am neutral and non-predicting when it comes to Giants' Quarterback play and that of Daniel Jones in particular in what must be viewed as his make-or-break future with the Giants...and perhaps also for some other notables.

In any case, I have only now realized that should Daniel Jones start a total of just 12 games this year, he will have made the third most starts (73) of any Giants QB since Eli's 246 and Phil's 139, and thus of all 25 other QBs since 1970 (post-Conerly/Tittle) including guys like Kerry Collins, Dave Brown, Scott Brunner, Craig Morton, Jeff Hostetler, Fran Tarkenton, etc.

Proves nothing, but kinda interesting of sorts, huh?

Cheers!
