NFL Draft, NY Giants style / Re: Trading draft picks
March 13, 2017, 11:47:53 PM
It may be ancient history but in 1971 the Giants traded their #1 to the Bears for C Bob Hyland and CB Bennie MaCrae. The Giants were 4-10, and the Bears with the #3 took OT Lionel Antoine who played 6 seasons. They also traded a #1 to Dallas for QB Craig Morton. That overall #1 turned into the HOF Manster DT Randy White.

The way I saw the last minute Dallas collapse was Garrett and Romo targeted Unga all the way down the field for the win.
JJM

As did Carolina to get into field goal range. Unga is still looking for his jock after getting juked out of it by Cam who is 6'5' and 250lb, then Olsen ran around him like he was a traffic cone. It's really not Unga's fault, he doesn't have the ability to play the Mike(or any LB position), but this is what JR gave TC to work with.

Your last paragraph says it all. I cried(I was 14 yrs. old) when the Rams beat us 31-3 in the final game. The week before the Giants beat the Cardinals in St. Louis to go to 9-4 and gave me a terrific birthday present. The referee blunder in New Orleans where Aaron Thomas clearly caught a td inbounds in the endzone cost them the division. That's why the 86' season is so special.

Giants History / Re: A great Y A Tittle article from BBI

I hate to keep stealing stuff from BBI but dam they have some nice pics over there.   I had to post this one on the Tittle thread.   Jack Stroud #66   Giff and Lou Cordileone #74.   I added it to the Tittle thread cause Cordileone was who the Giants traded to the Niners to get YA.   And I hadn't seen a pic of big Lou in years:

Great picture, thanks. However someone missed a block(LOL). Lombardi didn't so much turn the Giants down after Howell retired. The Pack's President reneged on a Gentlemen's Agreement with Wellington Mara that the GMEN could approach Lombardi with the HC opportunity when Howell retired.

Great article. The game really has not changed. For instance "caught a short pass underneath the Giants soft coverage and navigated his way to a 66-yard gain", the same could be said for Fewell's defense  =))  ;). The West Coast Offense of Bill Walsh(rip) and his coaching tree very closely follows the offense of Paul Brown and the Cleveland Browns of the 50's. The great Sid Gilman's(S.D. Chargers HC in the 60's) passing strategy has its stamp on many NFL offenses. Joe Gibbs' "Counter Tray" was just a slight variation of Lombardi's famed power sweep.

The failure to hit with RISP has been a huge issue with this team all year long. As a die-hard fan I find it frustrating and disturbing. I am not blaming Cashman etal., it is tough to put a team together with the pressure of having to always put a superior product on the field. There is a fundamental hitting problem. A few less homers and more doubles and singles would go a long way. Granderson struck out 28.5%, or 1.2 times pergame during the season and in this series 9 times. All those completely non-productive at bats. No advancing a runner, no sac flies, killing rallys, no taking walks to get on base. When a player hits 43hrs and only drives in 106 runs that is a problem. Am I being unrealistic to believe that a power/run producing hitter should have 3-4 rbi for every homer hit? He is Dave Kingman with a glove. Tex refuses to hit the other way. If he did the shift may end. With AROD who knows, has he just lost it, is it his eyesight, reflexes? Swisher is a FA after this season, I don't see him returning.

What made Reagan in the eyes of some a great president?
#249
This thread could become very charged. I don't think we have seen the greatest President as yet, taking nothing away from Obama and his predecessors. To me the greatest President will separate him or herself from party politics and propose legislation and ideas that will benefit the majority of people in this country. If some industries or folks have to take it on the chin for the benefit of most Americans than that is a price that needs to be paid. I'll stop here for now.

Can't see how Kirkpatrick falls to us. Isn't he the 2nd or 3rd rated CB?
#251
If a WR is the selection Jeffrey from South Carolina would be an interesting choice.

Why trade a former 1st round pick(32) who knows the system and can play two positions for a talented but UNPROVEN rookie? I would be ok drafting Hightower to add to what we have.
#253
and he is getting better each year.

Thank you. Yes it was a terrific catch, but each time I watch the play I am more and more amazed by the pass itself. Eli could not have been more accurate if he handed the ball to MM on the sideline. How many QB's past and present can make that throw?
