"I don't like to just wrap the quarterback," he explained.

"I really try to make him see seven fingers when they hold up three. I'll drive my helmet into him, or if I can, I'll bring my arm up over my head and try to axe the sonuvabich in two. So long as the guy is holding the football, I intend to hurt him...if I hit the guy right, I'll hit a nerve and he'll feel electrocuted, he'll forget for a few seconds that he's on a football field."

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on January 08, 2023, 10:52:40 AMYup, I hear where you're coming from. Totally fair points.

Ultimately none of this will matter if we win in Minnesota next weekend. Nobody is going to question what Daboll did in a meaningless week 18 game if we win on wildcard weekend. If we lose, then they might, although I think it's going to be hard for anyone to be taken very seriously if they really try to lambaste Daboll after the season the Giants had this year, particularly when compared with expectations. Maybe some have forgotten what the last decade has looked like with this organization, but I certainly haven't. Daboll has a lot of goodwill in the bank with me already.

If the Giants lose vs Minnesota no one will even question the decision to sit the starters the previous week. The narrative will be 100% focused on how the Giants overachieved and did well to get as far as they did. That will make me want to puke.

Everyone assumed Dan Marino would get back to the Super Bowl and win it next time, but he never did. You've got to attack these opportunities with extreme prejudice.

Quote from: kingm56 on January 07, 2023, 06:22:55 PMIf Daboll played DJ, and he was injured, he would be killed by the fans.  Injury is not a remote possibility either; this is the first year DJ has played all the 16 games.  Plus, the Giants run thier QB more than any other team in the NFL.  The Eagles are coming off two loses, have thier start QB back and will be playing for home field advantage...they will be playing with very high energy...we just don't need to subject DJ to the chance of injury.  His the kicker, we'll never know if this was the right decision or not, as we have no way of knowing the outcome of game if DJ were to play...

So let's just forfeit.

Quote from: Blue Fire on January 08, 2023, 12:12:59 AMLol yup. Engram could always get open at TE position. His two biggest problems were Garrett scheme and holding on to the football.

The issues with Engram were:

1. Struggled to stay healthy.
2. Underwhelming as a blocker.
3. Had a knack for dropping passes or otherwise choking in the most critical moments.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on January 08, 2023, 07:48:15 AMI brought this up yesterday. The data obviously exists; it's just a matter of finding an article that compiles it.

To me, there is no "half-pregnant" in this. Once you make the decision that you're resting your starters, you have made the decision that winning this game is less important to you than preserving the health of your best players for the following game, which matters infinitely more. Which backups you play is much less relevant than the decision of whether to play your starters or not in the first place.

I definitely agree with your second paragraph.

And regarding the first paragraph, that is of course what I meant.

Quote from: GloryDays on January 08, 2023, 03:50:06 AMI don't really understand all these negative sentiments about Webb and Daboll, and about Webb starting a pretty meaningless game!
Football knowledge and qualifications aside, are you guys attending the practices regularly?
How are you guys sure that Webb has not been outperforming Taylor as he did in the preseason? And just in case that REMOTE possibility exists, do Daboll and Shoen have the right to lower the team's salary and cost on the cap?
Or is the skin color somehow a deciding factor here too?!!

Is it a meaningless game? Does any data exist for how teams that rest their starters after seeding has been established do in their first playoff game?

This reeks of "just happy to be there."

I believe Lawrence Taylor said something to the effect of "When I hit the quarterback, I try to chop the son of a bitch in two. It sends an electric shock down his body."

I'll find the exact quote. It's from "The Blind Side."

I'll agree.  I'd give a 9 if not for the interception.

Quote from: AP44 on December 24, 2022, 04:13:01 PMHe all out blitzed on Jefferson TD, on 3rd and 9 and on 3rd and 11.

It's been a big problem this year.

You get better by attaining players that can generate pressure one on one so you can use the blitz sparingly. Until you have those players you both live or die by the blitz.

Quote from: kingm56 on December 11, 2022, 01:33:42 PMSome of you our getting to see what a real top 10 QB looks like.  Immense pressure doesn't matter.  He calm, cool, and doesn't need an open wr to complete a pass.

I'm wondering what the "ignore this poster" button looks like.

Sorry folks.

39-9 Eagles.

Except for when we talk about Sehorn returning kicks.
