I never knew that either. I watched him every Sunday night as a kid on our old black and white (more like brown and gray) television. I had to laugh at the line in the story, "Critics sometimes poked fun at Sullivan's wooden delivery, stiff body..." That's an understatement...lol

I remember the Beatles and the girls screaming til they practically fainted and watched some of my favorite groups from the 60's like Paul Revere and the Raiders, Herman's Hermits, The Temptations, The Rolling Stones, The Doors, etc., and of course that idiotic mouse "Topo Gigio". I even remember seeing Michael Jackson when he was about 8 years old singing and dancing like he'd been on stage for 40 years

I don't really miss the show, but I do find it applaudable that he went out of his way against the norm to showcase black talent. We take it for granted today, but it wasn't always like that. As a kid, I never gave it a thought what color someone's' skin was. I still don't. I just liked music.

A lot of people forgot Vanilla Fudge but their performance of You Keep Me Hanging On was really good and stands the test of time.
