Big Blue Huddle / Re: How did this happen?
September 29, 2023, 03:46:30 PM
Yea I'm not sure I see a lack of effort as much as just a lack of good fortune.  Last season they opened up with a flukey win and that sort of set the tone for the rest of the season. That snow balled into a team that felt like no matter what happened in the first 3 quarters if they were close they could figure out a way to get a win when they needed it.  This year they opened up with a hellacious ass kicking the likes of which are rarely seen at the NFL level.  It's hard not to let that set a tone as well.

I know they bounced back against Arizona but that was only for 2 of the 4 quarters.  I think they need an unexpected win to sort of get them back mentally into the mode of "we can win these games". Just something to turn the momentum of the season around.  2 quarters against Arizona isn't really going to do it when the first two quarters of that game they were as bad as they were against Dallas.

Seattle is a better team on paper.  If they can hang around and win at the end that would be helpful.  If they go out there and beat the brakes off Seattle that would also help.

Quote from: MightyGiants on January 23, 2023, 06:10:29 PMI don't think I would agree with your assertion that Jones "choked".  I think instead of looking at PFF grades for one game, you should look at the INTs and the like ( @Jolly Blue Giant does a great breakdown in the Dak thread).  I really don't see any sort of similarities, especially as Jones had the best game of his career against the 13-4 Vikings in his first playoff game, while Dak FINALLY won a playoff game against a team with a losing record (8-9)

I'm wondering if the Vikings defense is all time terrible though. I knew they were bad but after the performance against a talented group in Philly maybe the Giants and specifically those WRs weren't as great as they appeared in that game.

I do wonder why Jones didn't run more against Philly. Designed or otherwise. It was clear that anything else he was doing wasn't working.

Quote from: Ed Vette on August 30, 2022, 10:04:15 AMI haven't listened to the entire podcast but it's interesting to hear his perspective and what he went through.

"What he went through" was entirely of his own doing due to his own arrogance and stupidity.

NFL Draft, NY Giants style / Re: Joe Mixon
March 07, 2017, 02:34:15 PM
Sorry, but Bradshaw skipped some meetings and stole a playstation.  He never hit a girl.  And I don't care what the girl said/did you can't hit her.  I'd rather not have him on my team if I can avoid it.  I don't even like being forced to root for a team with Aroldis Chapman on it.

Leonard Fournette might have something to say about that.  Dudes that big aren't supposed to be that fast.  If he can stay healthy, and that's a big if, he's Adrian Peterson...only BIGGER.

But to answer the question I've still got OJ Howard #1 as far as TEs go but it's pretty close and the Giants would be much improved with either one of them next season.

BBH Archive / Re: Rate the Head Coach

He messed up the clock situation too many times for my liking, but having said that the rest of the job he's pretty darn good at.  So unless you know of somebody better lying around that wants the job we should stick with Coughlin.  Good head coaches are few and far between in this league.  Ask the Eagles how getting rid of a good coach with clock management deficiencies went for them.

Reese has to go.  He ignored the OL until it became a deplorable nightmare.  Only when he was forced to do something about it was it done, and in doing so he neglected the gaping hole at S which is as yet still unfilled.  And don't even get me started on his hatred of LBs.  It seems he'd rather draft backup QBs and WRs than starting caliber LBs for reasons that remain unclear.  He got lucky with OBJ.  Kudos to him for that.  But this is not the guy we need picking players and filling holes.

We could have had Bill Belichick possessed by Vince Lombardi running that defense and it wouldn't have made a bit of a difference.  Those players are just plain awful.

Robertson is getting first crack at the job.  They will have to work with him on throwing more strikes and being more efficient but he certainly has the stuff to do the job.  Hopefully the years spent sitting next to Mo have allowed some magic to rub off.

I can't even imagine what baseball is going to be like without Rivera closing games.  Once Jeter goes too my entire baseball childhood goes with him.  I'm still hopeful the Captain can put together one more season of solid hitting and routine defense.  He can't be any worse than the crap they were throwing out there last year can he?

I like the team assuming they can get Tanaka.  They need to call up that agent and just tell him "listen, whatever the Dodgers offered, we'll add 10 million.  Let's get this done"  With him in the rotation I think this is a playoff team.

Hey Terry,

There is a good chance I will be able to help you out.  I have 3 tickets to my name but my father and best friend have first dibs.  One lives in Baltimore the other in West Virginia. It will depend on which games they choose to go to but I will have plenty for sale throughout the course of the season.  Our tickets are basically end zone seats but also covered by one of the scoreboards.  Not great seats, but good enough.  I will let you know if that is a game we will be selling.

I just recently became a ticket holder and will be looking to sell some this season.  I don't know what games I'm going to just yet, a lot depends on the work schedule which doesn't get released until a couple weeks in advance most times but I'll definitely post them here when I know for sure they are for sale.  Most times I'll have 3 for sale.

It depends on who you talk to of course but it seems like Mark Ingram went right where he was supposed to go.  Late 1st round.  The Early run on QBs screwed up the 1st round quite a bit.  It also led to the Prince falling to the Giants in my opinion.  But that's far different than talking about a 6th round pick.  I don't doubt that many pundits had Jones ranked as high as a 3rd round pick.  I also don't doubt that NO NFL team agreed.  Otherwise he'd have been picked there.  So I just think we need to temper expectations for this kid.

The Giants have drafted late round LBs before.  Practically every year.  And every year they seem to disappoint in one way or another.  The only late round LB pick to show any promise was Adrian Tracy and he was finished in Preseason.  Who knows what he comes back as.  Like many fans I was holding out hope that the Giants would use an early pick on a guy that could step in from day 1 and start.  The competition isn't exactly stiff at that position.  As it stands I'd just hope that Jones can be a stellar participante on ST and that the Giants throw some money at a Free Agent LB, preferably not one who's 35 years old and coming off a blown out knee.

Well I have to believe Jones lasted to the 6th inning for a reason.  It wasn't as if teams forgot of his existence is it?  Even the Giants passed on him in the 3rd and 4th rounds. I think that 3rd round grade on him was probably not accurate. But yes, if the Giants had picked a LB in the 3rd round that didn't play safety or DE in college then yes I think most people around here would have been more excited about the pick than using it on a 6th rounder.

It's not unfair in the sense that the disaster that is Sinorice Moss is fresh in all of our minds.  Then we draft another diminutive WR and understandably fear history will repeat itself.  Jerrigan has better stats than Moss in college agreed, but also against lower competition.  That's not to say he's definitely going to stink, but it doesn't exactly brood confidence either.  At the end of the day its all about the individual.  Does he work hard, does he fight through contact, does he read the holes, does he return kicks fearlessly?  The answers to those questions will determine how his career goes.  Having said that, I'm of the opinion the pick could have been better served drafting an OL or LB than another WR who, may not see the field much on offense at all.  And if all our guys come back healthy, that's a big if I know, he may not see the field on offense AT ALL.
