Maybe this is more in the hope department but I think that Siils and Pettis and to a lesser extent Mack can be productive NFL receivers which is part of the reason I was not crazy about drafting Toney in the 1st round.

Good job Chris.

But maybe someone might take the time to introduce Mojo to so many new members who never had the pleasure of meeting him, and explain why we have instituted something like this in his honor.

Toney has the explosive playmaking ability that nobody else on the roster (including this year's expected starters) has. Talent-wise he is unique on this team. The question will be whether or not he can behave like a professional and also whether he can become a refined NFL route runner. Ability-wise and positional fit-wise I definitely think he was worth the pick though.

I like Sills. Really hope he keeps a roster spot. From the original article:

When quarterback Daniel Jones needed a receiver to run some post-practice routes, guess who answered the call? Yup. Sills.

Title: Camp day 4
Post by: Jclayton92 on July 31, 2021, 05:07:45 PM
Camp day 4 takeaways:

Coughlin shining at ILB

Martinez back and being eased in

Elerson Smith working on the side and conditioning was given the green light to practice.

Zo took Friday off but is back to full competition

Peart is back and cleared to go

Hernadez shining at RG

Secondary looks lethal- already looking like a cohesive unit

Rodarious Williams is murdering the 2nd/3rd team QBs nothing is getting past him and he's had 2 picks in 2 days

Ojulari is quietly killing practices, not much talk but tons of work and is making Thomas better daily. Thomas has had consecutive really good practices. 2 series had Williams and Ojulari on Thomas' side and held his own, communication across the line is much better than last year, with Thomas and Gates being the leaders.

Nothing to note on Xman, Beal, or Toney

Jones had a rough 1st practice but the past 3 have been significantly better.

Has been staying late with Golladay, Engram, Slayton, Sills, and Pettis

Ross has flashed in camp and is said to be working his butt off, asked DJ to stay and work routes with him

High expectations for Lawrence this year and he's come to camp hungry and energetic. Still has a really close bond to DJ

If the season started next week people in the organization think Barkley could play. They want him to take his time and build strength In the leg.

Quiet confidence from the organization as the offense is holding their own against the defense

McKinney looks like a superstar

The media had a good view of the offensive line drills on on Saturday down on the field. I was trying to keep a watchful eye on the structure of the offensive line coaching staff, which has a lot of cooks in the kitchen. It is quite clearly Rob Sale

Ojulari and Thomas will push each other to improve.

Notebook: Blake Martinez returns; Todd Davis joins LB room in series of roster moves (giants.com) (https://www.giants.com/news/blake-martinez-todd-davis-joe-judge-training-camp-lorenzo-carter-matt-peart)

Blake Martinez, the team's leading tackler in 2020, returned to the team for the first time since being placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Tuesday. He will not participate in the Giants' practice this evening in Eddie Moraes Stadium in Newark, part of the NFL's "Back Together Saturday" initiative.
Todd Davis, an eight-year veteran who has played for three teams, signed with the Giants.
"Blake is back with us in the building today, he's his normal self, smiling ear to ear, happy to be with the team," coach Joe Judge said. "He's always a lot of fun to have around, he's always got a good comment, but definitely a guy who communicates a lot in the meetings, so that's been beneficial having him back already.
"In terms of where he'll be on the field with us, the plan right away is to get him with the trainers and continue his kind of ramp up and build him back physically. When we know he's ready to go, we'll get him back on the field."

One of the challenges of being on the outside looking in can be to determine if the offense is ahead of the defense or vice versa during training camp.

Well, for the first few days of camp, the offense has been inconsistent on plays it should be otherwise making. But if head coach Joe Judge is concerned, he's not letting on.
"I think we all have plenty to work on right now," he said. "So in terms of the who

Thanks Slugs.

Good to see Jones get whatever monkey was on his back off his back and have his first really good day.

Nice to see Toney out there in pads. I don't mind that he was a little rusty... if he can just have a quiet next week and a half with no "news", then to me that is a win. I'll put more stock on what I see in the first preseason game from him than I do on a couple of practices at this point. I just want to hear that he is showing up on time for these practices, keeping his mouth shut, and putting forth a strong effort. I'm not looking for highlight reel from him right now.

I think it's really hard to judge the O line in practices for the reasons you mention. I need to see them in games, and really I am not going to feel strongly about them one way or the other until I see how they fare in the first two games of the season. If they can hold their own against the likes of Denver and Washington, I'm going to be super optimistic. If they look good in the preseason then that will be nice to see, but again I need to see it in a real game with them.

I'm pretty disheartened by this Golladay situation, but I can't say I am surprised, and nobody else should be. This guy may be the Carson Wentz of receivers.

Osi was with Papa the other day commenting on the practice, and he was raving about the Leo's intensity level. I know there had been some concern here about this guy lying down on everyone after getting his money, but my gut is that that won't be the case with him. I think this guy is a gamer. Also don't forget that it's only a three year contract, and he only just turned 27. He will be ultimately playing for one more contract, so I think we will get a max effort from him.

I am hoping one more receiver steps up in camp/preseason. Maybe it will be Ross, maybe it will be Willis, I'm not sure. But if Golladay is just not going to stay on the field, they need another outside guy besides Slayton. I know everyone thinks we're loaded at this position, but we're not really IMO. We have some nice slot options, but we are thin on the outside still.

Are we expecting Barkley to see any action in any preseason games? I know nobody wants to rush him back, but if this turns into a situation where he is missing multiple regular season games, that's not ideal and certainly not what anyone was hoping for. That will especially be problematic if Golladay is out. All of a sudden the Giants won't have any proven big time playmakers on offense, despite an offseason mandate from Mara to go out and get some.

Leonard Williams is somehow under the radar and is a legitimate DPoY candidate, especially with this secondary forcing QBs to hold the ball longer.  His fire has been lit since he moved to the Giants, I'm excited to see what he can do this season.

For those of you interested in who this thread is dedicated to, you can find testimonials of all our friends who passed away over the years in the History Board pinned to the top, "Tribute To Our Fallen Brothers". Mojo John Morrison was one of our most beloved and a dear friend to many of us. Going back to our days at the Big Blue Wrecking Crew, John who lived near the Albany Training Camp would do camp reports for all of us. One day we all finally met at a get together in the Parking Lot. I still quote John to this day when friends start getting into the political arena. One time we were all on the hill at Camp and he commented, "I like all you guys...and I want to continue to like all you guys...I don't need to know about your politics".

Here are a couple of posts about John;

LennG
Mojo and Gabes, where to start. Mojo  I met several times and there was never a nicer man you would want to meet. For those that didn't have the privilege of even knowing him, when he found out he was sick, he posted a sort of accounting of what he was going thru, different stages of his treatment and when he knew the end was near, his final thoughts. Truly one of the bravest men I ever met. I spoke to him over the phone maybe a week before he passed and he still had that sort of twinkle in his voice.Another who never had a bad word to say about anyone, and if any poster sort of got out of line, he had a way of personally writing to them, or just speaking to them and all of a sudden, things were OK again. For those that do not know, Mojo's son Aaron also posts here from time to time. Many of us met him and Mojo's family at one of our BB Q's,and several of us went to his gravesite to pay their respects. he lived in the Albany area, and never failed to attend any of our functions there.
Again, one of the nicest men anyone would ever want to meet.

Ed Vette
Then there was John Morrison (Mojo). I considered John my friend. We met up in Albany for camp a few times. One time just the two of us. We tossed the football back and forth as we discussed the team. We went to a game together on my birthday on a beautiful September Sunday and the Giants beat the Redskins. That was a great tailgate and a great day. We would keep in touch by E-mail and by phone, even through his illness. I'll never forget the day he finally felt well enough to speak to me after battling throat cancer and called me in the middle of the day just to tell me how much he appreciated my friendship and the friendship of all the folks from the board that he met and knew. I arranged a phone call the very next home game about a couple of weeks before he passed away at one of our tailgates and John was able to speak to his friends for the last time. That next summer we met Aaron and his mother Carol and the rest of the Morrison family at our BBQ get together. Many of us went to his gravesite to pray and pay our respects. I will never forget my friend John Morrison and the man he was.

Umass
I had the pleasure of meeting Mojo at camp one summer. I was the new guy at the picnic and he really went out of his way to make me feel welcome. We talked for a while and he really made an impression on me, I was very saddened to find out I would never have the chance to meet him again as I read the Mojo chronicles.

Moshik
"His football understanding was astonishing. He was very welcoming and friendly to new posters. He exuded warmth, sympathy, and intelligence. As far as I could tell, the only way to get him mad was to say a bad word about Harry Carson, his favorite player."

The picture was from Kevin RemembersHuff.

I absolutely love seeing this. Performing well against the twos is one thing, but yelling out that he wants the ones and then going in and making plays is the sort of attitude we should all be delighted to see.

No matter what happens, for a sixth round pick to be flashing as much as this guy has is always great. He believes he is worthy of making the team, and he has set out to show everyone exactly that. We can't ask for much more than that from a player taken this late in the draft. Great stuff.
Yep. Can Beal and keep this stud!

When we cut Beal his cap hit is $1,113,240 and a dead cap value of $524,246. Zach Fultons was $1,212,500 so we should get that back, and Looney's was 666,000 so between the 3 it should net us 2 million back towards the cap.

Believe Jones will settle into a grove with more work.
Depth battles, no matter the Position, are very encouraging. 17 games is a marathon of a Season.

Now for dah depth charge of the day...

Agreed. Great stuff, thanks Slugs.

The offense is certainly worrying. Scary now that Jones gets praised for simply not throwing any picks in a given day.

The O line got used and abused yesterday...  very concerning. If this O line is a disaster again, you're going to see a number of people get fired at the end of the season, if not sooner.

Love the positive stuff on Holmes and (especially) Williams, who is looking more and more like the find of this draft. Can't wait to see him in a game.

Many of us met him and Mojo's family at one of our BB Q's,and several of us went to his gravesite to pay their respects. he lived in the Albany area, and never failed to attend any of our functions there.
Again, one of the nicest men anyone would ever want to meet.

"His football understanding was astonishing. He was very welcoming and friendly to new posters. He exuded warmth, sympathy, and intelligence. As far as I could tell, the only way to get him mad was to say a bad word about Harry Carson, his favorite player."

Out of all the great posts you put up here, this is the top one. Gosh, it just brings back so many wonderful memories of John, Gabes, and all our friendships over all these years.
I, myself, am much appreciative of your post and it should be required reading for all here. As with Giants history, where people who saw things first hand are a wealth of knowledge, we also have to remember the people who helped this forum be what it is today. What I said about John  (Mojo) back then is still so true today.
What a wonderful man to know and to be able to call him--friend and he returning the same thoughts to you.

Once again, thanks for making my day a much better one.

Lenn, we share a rich history of many friendships and bonds that have enriched our lives. The first time I met everyone from the group my initial reaction was that everyone seemed so familiar by face even though we only ever exchanged words on a football forum. Sadly after Albany ended, so did all those special times. Every once and a while I go to the archive board and read a few of the BBQ planning and preparation threads. Brings back fond memories.

Ed, great post =D>

I was at that tailgate and remember the phone being passed around and was honored to chat with him for a few minutes. :ok:

Also Chris who may have been the most knowledgeable about Giants history.

Christopher Allen. His death was tragic. He died while under sedation for a gastric problem. I had several conversations with a close friend (Patty) of his after he passed. He was a very knowledgeable poster at the BBWC.

If anyone cares to see some of us and some of the 'old time' people who helped make this site what it is, I posted some pix from a get together we had, years ago.

Check it out on the Front Porch

This new TE Hikutini was really good his senior year and then hurt his knee. It's been four years, so maybe just maybe he's putting it all together now. We'll see.

He's been impressing quite a bit and getting reps with the 1s.

Joe Judge said they will see where Nate Solder is today physically. He's going to get looked at by doctors. He's been having a good camp so far. They don't want to put him at risk.

@giantswfan
#Giants #Judge on solder possible sore right arm - will check on him...has some bumps and bruises.....will check with the trainers....checking on a bunch of guys for load management

@PLeonardNYDN
Joe Judge says he thinks Nate Solder's injury is "nothing much," just normal "bumps & bruises" of training camp. But said he's still getting looked at, and obviously this week is gonna be more about playing younger/back of roster guys than vets like Solder #Giants

GiantsWFAN
@giantswfan
#Giants #Judge - likes the work ethic of this team....has a lot of mental toughness....likes they way they respond and compete in practice...loves their spirt and how they always try to improve every

@Dan_Salomone
Joe Judge said Elerson Smith and Azeez Ojulari are coming along nicely. There are different loads for different guys. They want to monitor what their bodies have been through. "Everything we do is very planned out."

GiantsWFAN
@giantswfan
#Giants #Judge on TE rysen john - every player is competing all camp.....was behind after being in protocol...he was further along than expected when he started practicing yesterday
