QuoteThe Giants came on strong with an offer between $3 million and $4 million more than he eventually accepted. But Jacobs was turned off by the New York taxes, lifestyle, media and the artificial turf at MetLife Stadium.

Big Blue Huddle / DT Elijah Garcia

Chatted with former Broncos DT Elijah Garcia yesterday and his head was still spinning after a hectic 48 hours.

He was waived Tuesday at the deadline. Driving away from the facility in Denver, his agent called and Giants said they were interested in having him join the PS if he cleared waivers.

Once he did, Garcia had to get on a plane in Denver on Wednesday. The tram at the airport was down. He was in a panic. Just made the flight to NJ.

The weather was sketchy Wednesday night, so his flight was diverted to Washington.

Finally got to NJ around 1 a.m. Thursday, roughly 7 hours on plane. Checked into hotel, had to be up by 7 for his physical with Giants yesterday a.m.
On the team, in meetings and at practice yesterday.

QuoteThe offensive line is legitimately improved
I touched base with a handful of Jets sources after the joint practice between the two teams. Was curious if some of my observations on the Giants aligned with theirs. The No. 1 takeaway from all: Big Blue's offensive line is solid.

Big Blue Huddle / Dan Duggan on locker room news
August 28, 2024, 06:01:34 PM
Most important development of today was we got into the locker room for the first time since the end of last season. Some observations:

• One of the ping pong tables has been replaced by a pool table. There's still one ping pong table, plus a shuffleboard table and a basketball hoop.

• Malik Nabers has the first locker by the entrance. Good for a little extra space, but random spot. Mostly DL by him.

• Wan'Dale Robinson moved next to Jalin Hyatt, who is next to Daniel Jones, who has the prime end locker by the entrance to the showers. Brian Burns has the other prime spot across from Jones. Backup QBs Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito are next to each other toward the back of the locker room.

• Positions are mixed throughout the locker room, but most of the offensive line is now together in one row — Jon Runyan, Andrew Thomas, Jermaine Eluemunor, John Michael Schmitz, Josh Stinnie, Josh Ezeudu and Evan Neal are all in a line.

Big Blue Huddle / All Waiver Claims

First, I think it will be subject to significant changes.

Surprises

I am surprised that Ford-Wheton ended up being the last WR standing.  From what I had seen in camp and in PS games, he had put little to nothing on tape.  It seemed like Boykin was a better (albeit slightly older and more expensive) version of Ford-Wheton.

Mild surprise about Allen Robinson, I guess they didn't want to keep 7 WRs

Jakob Johnson is one where I will confess to getting caught up in the FB excitement while ignoring the little voice in my head that kept saying he was a late camp addition and should be considered a long shot.

Surprised Boogie Basham made the roster.  I can't help but feel he made it because the Giants spent a small amount of draft capital to acquire him in a trade.  It didn't appear he earned his spot by his on-field performance.

Thoughts:

I really hope Turbo Miller doesn't get claimed (I think there is a good chance he can) and he ends up on the PS.  I like the man's upside and returner potential with the new kickoff rule.

I am puzzled as to why the Giants kept DT Jordan Riley on the 53.  I can't see any team claiming him if waived, and his deep backup role would be just as effective from the PS.

I would love to see the Giants bring back Nick Gates.  I think he would be an instant upgrade to Schlottman.

As predicted, there were 4 or 5 QBs released with more talent than DeVito.  I wonder if the Giants would gamble (because the claimed QB would take weeks to get up to speed) on an upgrade by claiming one of the QBs.

The first one happened yesterday, the second will happen today as teams release/waive players to make room for their waiver claims and signings.

• WR: Malik Nabers, Jalin Hyatt, Wan'Dale Robinson, Darius Slayton, Gunner Olszewski, Bryce Ford-Wheaton
• TE: Daniel Bellinger, Theo Johnson, Chris Manhertz
• OL: Andrew Thomas, Jon Runyan, John Michael Schmitz, Greg Van Roten, Jermaine Eluemunor, Aaron Stinnie, Evan Neal, Josh Ezeudu, Austin Schlottmann, Jake Kubas

• DL: Dexter Lawrence, Rakeem Nunez-Roches, DJ Davidson, Elijah Chatman, Jordon Riley
• OLB: Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux, Azeez Ojulari, Boogie Basham, Benton Whitley
• ILB: Bobby Okereke, Micah McFadden, Dyontae Johnson, Carter Coughlin, Darius Muasau, Matthew Adams
• CB: Deonte Banks, Nick McCloud, Dru Phillips, Cor'Dale Flott, Isaiah Simmons, Tre Hawkins

Again, S Gervarrius Owens was on the field and participated in stretch and individual drills, but then walked inside with two staffers early in practice.

Finally, it's done.

CeeDee Lamb has agreed on a four-year, $136 million contract with the Dallas Cowboys that includes a $38 million signing bonus, according to Adam Schefter.

The deal, worth $34 million per year, makes him the second highest-paid receiver in the NFL.
