On point 3, Schoen had better be proven right on his free agent moves. This draft looks a lot like a Jerry Reese draft where they prioritize athletic ability. Those types of drafts don't always work out for the best as we've seen over the years.

I'm okay with their approach if only because the roster lacks game changing talent. But it's contingent on the free agent additions on the OL and DL playing well. There's a lot on the line for Daboll but also for Schoen. If the OL continues to fail he's going to get a lot of the blame.

Quote from: madbadger on April 26, 2024, 08:31:57 PMIn fairness he was talking about his physical dimensions.
He didn't think of Jonathan Ogden. He compared Alt to Solder's length and athleticism. If we're talking about Nabers or Ogden it's a much different discussion. Alt isn't that guy. His style is actually similar to Solder.

I won't be surprised if he turns out to be better than Mckinney. Good pick.

Belichick compared Alt to a young Nate Solder. In his prime Solder was good but never dominant.

On the other hand, I think Nabers has a chance to be another Antonio Brown. If he can keep his head on straight, he's going to be a force.

For me Nabers is the easy choice.

Caleb, Rome, Keenan Allen, and DJ Moore will be interesting.

Top-3 talent in this draft. Once the 3 QBs went, you can't pass on rare talent like this.

If this is true then MHJ doesn't have anything to worry about. But I've also heard that some teams may view Nabers as WR1 due to his explosiveness.

Quote from: Philosophers on March 15, 2024, 07:20:37 PMWe need to find 5 good starters who play together for a few years and build continuity.

The constant turnstile is maddening.
Step 1: find good starters
Step 2: build continuity

They're still on step 1 unfortunately

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on March 15, 2024, 06:57:37 PMI'm not going to lie - I love Danielle Hunter. I think he's a terrific player. But he also turns 30 this season. That doesn't mean he's not good now, but he's obviously not going to have the shelf life from here on that Burns will.

Since the Giants are a rebuilding team that is virtually certain to not contend this year, it makes a lot more sense to get a foundational piece like Burns who can potentially be with this franchise for the better part of the next decade if things go well.
Exactly. The question the Giants likely asked themselves isn't who is the better player today, it's who can be part of the long-term future for this team.

Quote from: Bob In PA on March 15, 2024, 02:51:00 PMDoc: Actually, my laugh wasn't about us fans, it was about how we view what Schoen says. It amuses me because IMO his answers depend totally on what question he was answering and the surrounding circumstances.

He'll never knowingly tip his hand about the draft or free-agency, but when asked to evaluate areas where the team needs help or status of individual players I believe he tries to be as honest as the day is long, with the only exception being the necessity to completely avoid answering specific questions about a player's health.

We here (and nearly all fans) hate losing because it usually results in wasting four months each year the Giants field a crummy team (whether that is due to bad luck with injuries or bad management by those in charge).

Bob
My apologies, Bob. Thanks for the thoughtful response.

Quote from: MightyGiants on March 15, 2024, 12:33:30 PMI am pretty sure all fans hate losing.
I've heard from some who don't care about winning or losing, they enjoy the process regardless.

Bob, you've had a good decade run of laughing at fans who hate losing. Must be nice to have that point of view.

Quote from: EliWasrobbed on March 14, 2024, 09:36:12 PMother than tyrod having a full camp I don't see Tommy or DJ doing that with bellinger. People keep saying we need a WR or something else but we need to trade the farm for a Drake Maye so players like bellinger and wandale etc can finally shine
This is the right way to look at it. People keep debating individual players rather than how the players fit together. This is why Gettleman was so bad at his job, he focused on the individual rather than the collective fit. If Schoen doesn't want to fall into the Gettleman trap he will need a QB to make the pieces on offense work.

Love this guy!

For me, this is not so much about trading for an individual. It's about building a core on defense that fit perfectly together and can be part of something special for the next half decade. I'm excited for what could be. If Burns and Thibs push each other to be better, along with Dex, we will really have something here.

Music to my ears. Hey, you can't force any of these teams to make a reasonable trade, but at least that they're working the phones and not taking anything for granted is encouraging.
