Simple. Eagles (both games). Saquon. Anyone want to bet on it? Bob

Mr. Banks is an honest man put (too often) in the difficult position of having to criticize the people who pay him.

I for one believe he is SENSATIONAL at his job.

If you listen very very closely to each and every comment (especially during games), not only to the words but the tone and tenor of his voice, you'll hear him calling the balls and strike as fairly as any judge (and he's a really nice man, the kind of guy any fan would love to hang around with). He does soft-pedal the criticism... but he NEVER avoids it. IMO a truly undervalued member of the Giants' overall "team" of employees.

Quote from: AZGiantFan on Today at 10:07:18 AMI think their fate is primarily tied to the OL rather than to Jones.  However, if hope wins out over experience and the OL DOES improve to average or better but Jones doesn't perform they will finally, after 6 long years, get the definitive answer on Jones.

AZRich: I'll NEVER disagree with a post saying OL is more important in the NFL than QB.

It's five guys who make up a "mini-team" that controls the ball, the clock, the score and the play-calling.

This year is shaping up (barring injury to Jones) to put my long-standing theory to a rigorous test.

Bob

PS. I originally forgot to include the word "NEVER" in the first sentence. lol

Quote from: WheresDayne on Today at 07:24:35 AMMiddling is exactly where we don't want to be.  Good teams always have a chance and bad teams get the draft capital needed to get better.  Jones is not only not our answer at QB but he is possibly the worst problem we have on the team...just good enough to make us middling, very expensive and an injury waiting to happen (and if that happens, we're on the hook for an injury clause)   :surrender:
Dayne: Well, they took a big gamble on Jones and the best we can hope for is they were correct to do so. Bob

Quote from: Ed Vette on Today at 06:30:54 AMThey all knew he needed to sit a spell and work on his mechanics and skills to transition to the next level.
Ed: Right. It's the ceiling that prompted the Giants to try to draft him (assuming that is the player they would have drafted if the Pats had agreed to the trade offer, assuming there WAS such an offer). Bob

That's a good set of predictions IF... the Jones deniers turn out to be correct.

If we instead view Jones as a veteran QB who's back is to the wall, the Giants should split the pair against the Eagles and the pair against the Cowboys, in which case 9-9 would probably turn out to be good for a playoff spot.

It's all about beating the Eagles and Cowboys and hoping for a bit of good luck (for a change) regarding injuries not only to the Giants, but also the opponents' injury situations.

Bob

PS. We're likely a "middling" team at best, but I see chance to win in Seattle as well as against Indy and Cincy.

Nicely done, Larry, and many thanks for this post.  Bob

Quote from: T200 on May 07, 2024, 10:04:59 PMBob,

The QB order is Jones, Lock, and DeVito. If they made a move for Maye, he'd have to be viewed as the eventual #1. If they liked Maye better than Jones, then, by extension, better than the other two as well.

I don't think they'd make a move to get to a top 3 pick to draft a backup.

Tim: Right, but my point is... it's not conclusive that they are dissing Jones, or even dissatisfied with Jones.

Clearly, a high pick is expected to take over eventually, but it would still be Jones' job to lose (this year).

They paid him a lot of money. The only way they can attempt to get their "money's-worth" is to play him.

Quote from: T200 on May 07, 2024, 03:46:09 PMIf they made a move for Maye, that pretty much says they'd rather have him than DJ. QB is not a multiple player position like WR.
Tim: It is also possible making a move for Maye meant they'd rather have Maye than Lock (or Tommy). Bob

This is my sleeper pick of the Giants' draft. Taken in the third round, he is definitely not a "leftover."

He has more brains than flash, but I'll take a boring CD every time. Just show up, shut up and do your job.

Barring injury, IMO he's the guy on the Giants most likely to have a long career (and then become a coach).

Another year has passed... thanks for remembering to post this great moment in sports!!!

I'd normally select my favorite (Daniels) but since he went to the Commodes, I'll say none.

If you insist that I pick one, out of deference to our "QB whisperer" @Ed Vette I'll say Nix and the Broncos.

A shot in the dark. No particular reason except Broncos have been 'down' for quite some time (like the Giants) so if I start picking them now to revitalize and keep doing it each year, I'm bound to be right eventually. lol

If the D can "hold serve" (play as well as last season) and injuries are near the NFL average (as opposed to our usual situation - leading the league ::) ), IMO our offense and special teams are poised to bounce back, and the result of all this should be a team that is still relevant in December (at worst). Big Blue Huddle / Re: Nabers/OBJ comparison

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 29, 2024, 08:44:47 AMI think OBJ was a better catcher of the football, while I think Nabors is more explosive and elusive than OBJ.
Rich: I'm uncertain about that. If you watch Nabers' highlight reels he also has an uncanny ability to twist, turn and contort his body while hanging in midair.  This aspect of his game, which IMO is superior to that of OBJ, plays a significant role in catching the ball. Who has the better hands?  I think it's about even.  Bob
