Barkley is a freak athlete and a class act. He hired poor management and ultimately it probably was the biggest issue with him not being a Giant today

Regardless of how much I hate the Eagles I am not rooting against him except when we play him.

Barkley like anyone who is relied on significantly in games has more opportunities to have plays go wrong. It was not the first time and will not be the last time Barkley missed a big opportunity at the end of the game.

I could careless about Barkley the Eagle, like any other Eagle screwing up in a big spot I smiled and laughed...

Any day the Eagles lose is a good day.

Eagles Suck !!

Quote from: TDToomer on September 17, 2024, 10:57:48 AMOh great. Only 2 games in and Giants fans are probably ready to OBJ Nabors out of town. This is why we can't have nice things.

Are you seriously even invoking "OBJ" as if he was some kind of victim in a petty misunderstanding?

Quote from: TDToomer on September 10, 2024, 04:32:52 PMOne more unnecessary DJ thread when there are dozens open on pages 1-2.  :boooo:

He is the single biggest issue the team is facing, its reasonable he will have alot to discuss

Jones runs an offense with training wheels

It's simple because of Jones limitations

In away I feel for Daboll he can only run limited playbook knowing he job is on the line

Quote from: MightyGiants on September 10, 2024, 11:21:21 AMYou think the poor job Schoen did last year in putting together the offensive line might have contributed to DJ's decline (after he got the crap beat out of him due to lack of protection)?
No
He was making too mistakes that had nothing to do with pressure. Plus he creates a fairly large % of his own pressure.

Quote from: Gmo11 on September 10, 2024, 10:23:44 AMThe roster is significantly better the QB is significantly worse.  He should be crushed for giving Jones that contract because if he hadn't this team would be a middle of the pack team or better.  It was likely a hard sell to Mara and the like that the team that just made the playoffs needs to move on from the QB and trade the RB but it's what he should have done and what I believe the plan was when he got here.

They had no business making the playoffs that first year they were supposed to be VERY bad, get the cap in order, and start building.  Making the playoffs screwed up the entire plan and boxed him into a position where he likely felt obligated to build around Jones thinking there's no way he goes back to be awful he has to keep improving.....only that's not what happened.

So I don't think it's fair to say there's no plan.  There was a very clear plan.  It got screwed up when they won enough games to make the playoffs and face the one and only team there that they could actually beat in the first round.
Minnesota Game got DJ the contract and ironically less than two years later it also may have killed his tenure with the Giants

Lombardi is a mixed bag IMO

First and foremost the guy is a talking head, he is paid to create content. As frustrating as it may be the Giants have made it very easy for him to bash them for the past decade plus.

To his credit he hired Gruden then replaced him with Callahan and made a Super Bowl Appearance.
His first draft pick ever was HOF Charles Woodson and it was all down hill from there, in 9 years of draft picks he picked Woodson a HOF, Asougmuha a pro bowler and very little else.

He never successfully drafted a QB but did bring in Gannon who was mediocre at best in KC before, so that moved worked and credit must be given.

He failed more than he succeeded and that is understatement.

The biggest problem I think most giants fans have with him is that the team is an easy target for him to run his mouth about.  He might not be correct at times but he reminds everyone of the complete disaster of a mess that is and has been the Giants for the past decade plus.

Schoen was spot on though, Barkley can succeed without Jones, but it remains to be seen if Jones can succeed without Barkley and in order to find a future QB the Giants must have a QB who isn't trying to use Barkley as a crutch constantly and scrambling from the benefit of a two headed running threat.  In year 6 the training wheels are off.  With the out year in the contract Jones must show to be a functional NFL QB :  make correct presnap reads, and identify the correct Receivers against various defenses, hit the throws.
In short add value to the offense by virtue of your passing play.

Quote from: MightyGiants on September 10, 2024, 08:22:21 AMIt's funny, fans are eager to pile on Daniel Jones, but after 3 seasons the Giants have a roster that is ranked (and plays like) one of the worst in the league.  Yet, fans are more eager to bash any critics than they are to hold our GM (who objectively has not done anything to improve the roster he inherited in the last three years) accountable.

People may hate Mike Lombardi, but I have a hard time saying he is wrong about Joe Schoen.  The results, as they say, speak for themselves
Repetitive selective criticism is certainly interesting

Quote from: MightyGiants on September 09, 2024, 09:47:46 AMChris,

As I already explained, it's an error to claim Jones as a $47 million dollar player.  I didn't hear you saying he was only a $15 million dollar player last season.  The reality is Jones is a mid teir (tied for 15th and 16th veteran QB. Although, frankly, the way DJ played yesterday, he isn't worth middle-of-the-pack veteran money.
47 with transfer or 40 mill

call it what you will.

He isn't worth Lucks contract other than it being a 1 year deal.

Quote from: MightyGiants on September 09, 2024, 09:30:02 AMWhere did you get the $47 million number from, Chris?  DJ's contract is $40 million per season (a 2-way tie for 15th and 16th).  I am truly baffled by how fans and some pundits hold Schoen's cap manipulations against the vehicle of said manipulations (in this case, Daniel Jones).  Schoen used DJ's contract to borrow 2024 cap money for the 2023 season.  I don't believe there is any reasoned case that such moves should be held against the player  the GM used to borrow the money.
Jones is a 47 mill cap hit this season and you know that and how I got the number.

Transferring 7 mill is not the issue.  Call it 40 mill, call it what it is 47 mill.  Hell I thought he was worth 28 mill per before the extension and I was completely wrong.  Jones isn't worth the 5mill drew Luck was given.

you have a real knack for ignoring so many other points to side track a conversation on minor detail you take issue with.

Call it 40 mill, who cares do you feel better about his play then ?  40 mill vs 3.3 or 47 mill vs 3.3 is the detail you choose to take issue with?

Quote from: MightyGiants on September 09, 2024, 09:31:47 AMI also criticized DJ, but apparently, I didn't blame him hard enough or blame everything on him.

I criticized Daboll, the team, Thibs and burns.  I also specifically brought up the 99 yard drive.

All that is a side story to the 47 mill Coach Killer QB who has thrown more pick 6's than TD's under his extension and is doing a great job at getting his 3rd coach fired adn is on his 4th OC. A coach who like the three before him can not make this one read QB functional.

Quote from: MightyGiants on September 09, 2024, 09:21:43 AMThe defense made Sam Darnold look like Joe Montana and let the Vikings march down the field 99 yards.  I am not going to pretend the defense was anything but subpar.  The Vikings dialed it back in the second half, or the score would have been much higher.

That is where you draw the line on pretending?

It is interesting to see you jump right in with your criticism of the coaching and defense ....

Quote from: MightyGiants on September 09, 2024, 09:09:43 AMJJ McCarthy-  IR for the year
Penix and Maye- Did not play, coach's decision

Caleb Williams (vs Titans)  14/29 93 yards 0/0 TD/INT: 5 for 15 yards rushing 22.2 QBR 55.7 QB rating (2 sacks)

Jayden Daniels (vs Bucs) 17/24 184 yards 0/0 TD/INT: 16 for 88 yards 2 TDs rushing 41.8 QBR 93.1 QB rating (2 sacks)

Bo Nix (vs Seahawks) 26/42 138 yards 0/2 TD/INT: 5 for 35 yards 1 TD rushing 30.1 QBR 47.5 QB rating (2 sacks)

Since at least Nix, Penix, and JJ were all alternatives to DJ, here are DJ's numbers

Daniel Jones (vs Vikings) 22/42 186 yards 0/2 TD/INT; 6 for 15 yards rushing 17.4 QBR 44.3 QB rating (5 sacks)

Imagine if the cost to under preform was only 3.3 as with nix or 4.1 as with Penix.

Giants paid 47 mill for total incompetence

What a dark day in Giant land to compare two rookies first games to Jone's 61st game.
