It seems pretty clear Brian Daboll has some rough edges that need polishing.  Who better to help Brian Daboll take his coaching game to the next level than Bill Belichick?   Bill has the gravitas that I think Brian would heed his advice, and Bill certainly has a lot to offer.  Plus, if the Giants hire a less experienced DC, Bill would certainly be a good resource for that coach as well.


From Bill's perspective I would think a less demanding consulting job would be a better option than simply sitting out a year in the NFL and hoping he gets a HC job next year (when he is even older).

I agree with you, Rich @MightyGiants . I wouldn't want to see any other relationship, in the current state, with Belichick and the Giants, as being his consulting Brian Daboll and sharing Lessons Learned with Joe Schoen from his illustrious career. In that regard, I could actually see him putting wisdom on both of them at a time when they probably need to take a step back and evaluate the perception of their roles now versus when they first started and where they need to go from here. Belichick has seen it and done it all. His experience with Cleveland, in the 1990s, might be helpful since Belichick did that all on his own without Parcells. Everything else in his career had Parcells' fingerprints all over it which helped jump-start him in each of his other roles.

If they bring Belichick in, they should get rid of Schoen and DaBoll. They'd be in a situation where they'd be looking over their shoulders after every debatable decision or loss. Belichick would be viewed as a coach-in-waiting, everyone knows he wants to coach again and would probably want full control when he slides over to be head coach. They did this the last time the team was in total chaos when they hired the most successful head coach from the WFL, John McVay, to a made up job title, only to succeed Bill Arnsbarger in the middle of his first season here. Either Schoen and DaBoll go or continue to run the team as they see fit and try to stabilize this team that has been so poorly run for so many years. Owners need to support their management or find new they believe in, not undermine it.

 I fully agree Jim, Just the idea of bringing in a BB, back to NY would probably make him giffy.  He just LOVES to bring in all those old Giants and who cares how it works out.

I just listened to Raanan's latest podcast.   He said he heard Belichick has told people he is not thrilled with the way the Giants are run these days.

Yes.

He'd like to consult his way right into the Head Coach of the 2025 New York Football Giants.

Personally I don't want Belichick, even in a "consulting" role. I don't believe that after 20 years of being in a nearly autocratic position in New England that he's just going to be a soft voice in the corner. If they bring him in as a consultant, they'll be effectively cutting Schoen off at the knees. I am not for that. And I definitely am not for Belichick picking for us on draft day under any circumstances or even having a seat at the table in that process.

In fairness, these comments were at the end of his podcast and were not advertised.   Raanan was addressing the possibility of Belichick coming to the Giants as a coach.  He said people have come to him with the reports that Belichick is not happy with the way the Giants run now.  Raanan suggested it had to do with the family being involved in running the team, a break from how things were run when he was with NYG and Wellington was in charge

Little Bill doesn't even know the meaning of the word, consult. And if current impressions hold, he'd be the last guy I could see working constructively with Daboll. Sure, he may love football and all that, but his goal is 15 more wins to pass Shula as the Winningest Coach of All Time and for that consulting or coordinating will be no interest to him.

When Belichick was with the Giants, George Young ran the team and Wellington was not involved, abiding by the agreement made with nephew Tim and Pete Rozelle. It's doubtful John would step back and allow anyone the freedom Young had.

Looks like Bill will be waiting in the wings if Giants fall flat again next year ......Come home Bill

Bill Belichik is coming off a 4-13 season. He single-handedly destroyed he career of his franchise QB Mac Jones. He ran Tom Brady out of NE because he was jealous of the credit Brady was getting for their joint success. He has been a failed head coach since Brady left. He recommended Joe Judge to the Giants as well as Brian Daboll. He can't get another job because of the perception that his SB-winning days are over and he's unbearable to work with to boot. I don't think he's in any position to pass judgment on how any other franchise is run, and part of the Giants' dysfunction is that John Mara keeps calling Belichik for advice and recommendations every time he needs to make a coaching change.

Bringing Belichik here is probably the worst thing they could do. I wish they had brought in Jim Harbaugh, but that's another story.
