Where would you rank him, compared to all the NY Giants QBs to wear the uniform? Hoss was a warrior always ready to give up his body for the team. Unselfish, and seemed to be the ultimate team fist kind of player.

Hos played in a different time in the NFL. Teams drafted you and basically owned you. Free agency basically did not exist in the NFL as it does today. He would have been long gone from here , and the Giants would have lost that Super bowl BADLY if free agency was a thing.

I believe he went on to eventually start for the Raiders for 5 years. I cannot think of a single time that has happened in the modern NFL era post free agency.

721 quarterbacks have played atleast one game in the NFL during the Super Bowl Era, 34 have won a Super Bowl

That's where I rank Hos

The video starts by saying Hostetler was drafted in 1984 when the Giants already had solid and sturdy Phil Simms. At the time of the '84 draft, Phil Simms had missed close to half of his games due to injury. He missed the entire '82 season and most of '83.

I was reading somewhere that that is the Green bay way. Draft a QB when you can a good one regardless if you need one. Dont wait until you HAVE to draft one. I want to say 49ers used to do that too.

This as well as the fact that they carried over Jeff Rutledge who was a suitable backup but probably not starter material for anything but perhaps a couple of games a year (NOTE: which is primarily what Rutledge did until Hostetler was ready, in Parcells' eyes, to assume the backup QB position).

Hostetler was an outstanding scout QB and his teammates loved him for all he did to get them ready every Sunday. He even went so far to play WR and special teams in order to get playing time.

His first start, in 1988 against the NFC West leading Saints at the Dome, became famous for LT's performance while injured, but it also had the longest play of the season, an 85-yard TD pass to Stephen Baker, the TD maker. Though Parcells switched to Rutledge in the second half, the Hoss was angered by it and said it was one step closer for him to quit. Later, he said he would have if it weren't for the courage of his son, Jason, who went through multiple surgeries early on in his life which was around this time frame. "If he wasn't complaining, why should I," reasoned Hostetler.

We know the rest of the story, but he credited his faith and the motivation gained by so many who doubted him and told him he couldn't do it, when it came to winning in the 1990 playoffs. His is a story of inspiration, where his teammates gathered around him and he led them into battle against some of the very best teams of all-time, and found a way to win.

So, perhaps 721 quarterbacks may have played in a Super Bowl. Perhaps 34 have won a Super Bowl. But very few have won under so much scrutiny and doubt as Jeff Hostetler did. It's not about the numbers, how famous your name is, whether or not you are in the Hall of Fame or even if you've done it multiple times. It's about answering the call when the bell is rung. It's about overcoming adversity under the most challenging of scenarios. It's about showing character that makes a man stand next to his boy, point to the quarterback, and say with pride what a fine leader of men he is. Jeff Hostetler was a fine quarterback, leader of men and two-time Super Bowl Champion with one of those being the finest moments of his professional career.

Jeff Hostetler ranks near the top in terms of character, leadership, determination and inspiration. These, in my opinion, are the most important values to judge a Super Bowl Quarterback by. The best of them all, however, remains the very first Super Bowl winning Quarterback: Bart Starr.

Peace!

I don't go back as far as some,  so I could be missing somebody, but I would say he is the best backup QB in team history.

I rank him above Daniel Jones...WELL ABOVE

Jeff Hostetler was excellent. A tremendous athlete, smart, good arm, a fighter. Bill Parcells spent years torturing him psychologically. He hated being a backup but starting in 1984 Simms was one of the best QBs in the NFL. Hostletler's performance down the stretch and the playoffs in 1990 after Simms got hurt was impressive, and that win over the 49ers in SF in the NFC championship game was tougher than most people remember. In the Super Bowl Hostetler was nothing short of heroic. He got hit pretty bad early on in the game but came back to lead the team to victory. Ottis Anderson was the rightful MVP but Hoss wasn't far behind. He's an all-timer Giants legend for me. Only one of three Giants QBs to win a SB ring.

At the time he was drafted, Parcells knew nothing about Simms and he was unreliable. Scott Brunner was the starter most of the last 3 or 4 years and Parcells knew he wasn't the answer.
