Quote from: Painter on May 16, 2024, 12:58:20 PMThat ugly looking livery is before my time, which is remarkable in itself. But then, I'm kinda remarkable all by myself. :smug:  In any case, it's nothing like the red jersey I remember. Indeed, I wouldn't even call it a "red" uni.

And by the way, did someone make a mistake in including No.8 whatisname in that picture?

To quote what a wise man (guy?) once said ...

Quote from: Painter on May 15, 2024, 09:22:58 PMFools rush in where...never mind... we dance to whomever plays the pipe. And not just in matters of "sport".

Cheers!

I'll buy the next round if you can find a better band with a better tune! Fair enough, good sir?

Peace!

NFL Films did an hour "A Football Life" episode dedicated to the man. That was more than what I needed to know.

No, I choose, instead, to watch a far more meaningful production from NFL Films. A story that traces back to the foundation of the league and an individual whose legacy helped define the greatness the game in this country, and opened the door to the entire world to love and become passionate as we all have become. It is the story of the man who led the Flagship Franchise of the National Football League from its earliest days, to help shape the league for it to grow and supplant baseball as our national pastime and refine it so its possibilities remain endless. For his life of service to his Football Giants, through good times and bad, his selfless service to the NFL as a steward of its health and growth, his service to our country during World War II, his devotion as husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, many times over, he became the patriarch and conscience of the league and all owners, to include Jerry Jones, sat up and paid close attention whenever he spoke. His efforts to broker a deal with Wilson for footballs, which remains the longest contiguous contract in US Sports history, was so impressive the balls were stamped with his nickname, the title of this film in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the New York Football Giants.

No, I will pass on the Jerry Jones miniseries. Instead, I will watch a wholesome documentary with substance, "The Duke!"

Giants 100th Season

Peace!

As ever, it's not who you play it's when you play them.

It's a great opportunity to start against JJ or Darnold and then following up against Daniels.

These kids might be the real deal but they might also need time to bed in.

I also like the idea of finishing against, Indy, Atlanta and then an Eagles team who ought to be in the playoffs already.

Still a lot can happen between now and week 18 but right now, in May, I think it's a decent slate.

As best as I can.

In the first scenario, the ball went into dead area as a result of the defense. (Pitcher/catcher). The runner, who was on base is awarded one base regardless if he was running on the pitch. It is like any ball, on any play, going into dead area, if there are runners on, there have to be bases awarded. In this instance, the runner WAS going on the pitch, so he should not be penalized because the ball went into dead area not assisted by any offensive player.

In the second instance, the dead ball was called because it hit another offensive player and the defense wasn't able to even try to make a play on it. Because the defense (catcher) couldn't even attempt a play because of the dead ball, the defense shouldn't be penalized, even if it wasn't intentional. The runner has to go back.

It may sound complicated, but the baseball rulebook lists the cases when the ball is dead immediately and there are only a few--Hit batter, foul ball, ball going into dead area,  ball hits a runner in the field of play, ball hits an umpire in the infield. There might be one or two more but most times it is called a delayed dead ball so it gives the defense, or offense a chance to complete a play.  Even most balks nowadays are a delayed dead ball. Whenever there is a delayed dead ball, as an umpire, you let the play, play out and then award whatever penalty or award bases as so directed.
I am off to a game now, if you need further explanation I will try to explain it more clearly.

As bad as the Jints were last year, they could have beaten the Bills, Jets and Rams with routine efficiency. That's 9 wins in an awful year.

Daboll knows he has to get to 9 wins, or at least 8 wins,or he might be toast
